Looking for a peaceful mountain getaway in a classic log cabin with great outdoor space and cozy stone fireplace for warming up after a day on the nearby slopes? Welcome to Almost Heaven, a traditional Valle Crucis family cabin rental in a wonderful setting just minutes from the river and historic Mast General Store.
Valle Crucis NC has always been the heart of the High Country; driving through it feels as though you have stepped back in time as you pass the large white general store and fields with horses and cows. Cross the Watauga River, popular for canoes, river tubes and fishing, and head in to the Glen at Mast Gap. When you arrive at the cabin, you will appreciate the easy level entry, which makes unloading the car a breeze.
Step into the large, open living area and you are greeted with the large stone fireplace and many windows. The entire interior is warm and inviting, with special touches throughout. The care the owners have taken in preparing this cabin for your vacation is evident in every room, with unique mountain décor and charming touches.
There is plenty of seating for everyone in both the living room and around the large country dining table. Or take advantage of our lovely spring and summer weather and dine outside on the large deck. In the morning, enjoy your coffee on the covered porch, listening to the birds and perhaps even seeing the local deer and wild turkey pass by. At night, enjoy a relaxing soak in the brand new hot tub while trying to count all the stars overhead.
When your day comes to an end, there are three bedrooms to enjoy a comfortable nights’ sleep. The master bedroom is conveniently located on the main level, with art by popular local artists and scrollwork queen bed. The highlight is the master bath, recently renovated with large tiled walk-in shower. Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms, the first with high wooden ceilings and double bed. The third bedroom has two twins, perfect for the kids. There is an additional full bath on this level.
Spring, summer and even fall, enjoy the outdoor space at Almost Heaven. The large decks feature plenty of comfortable outdoor seating, including bent willow, rocking chairs, dining set and of course, the hot tub. There is a large gas grill for cooking up the days’ catch, and a great yard – lots of room for the kids to play, or the adults to enjoy the view and natural surroundings. There are even woods to explore!
Best of all, the cabin is convenient to local attractions and events, including Tweetsie Railroad, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain or home games of the championship Appalachian State University Mountaineers. But be sure to enjoy all there is in Valle Crucis, be it horseback riding, exploring the charms of the historic Mast General Store, or an afternoon at the popular Valle Crucis Park with its paved trails, river access, playground, picnic pavilion and live music on summer weekends.

Depending on the home, Blue Ridge Vacation Cabins recommends 4WD, chains or sometimes both when visiting the mountains in winter. We are happy to help you find the home with the winter access you are most comfortable with.

This is a beautiful cabin tucked away in the mountains. We loved every minute being here. We came here for the rock climbing and that didn't disappoint us either. We rang in the New Year the first night with friends and family. We explored the area in a dense fog on Saturday. On Sunday we had a great time doing Ziplines at Hawksnest and tubing at Sugar Mtn. the next day. Our last day was spent on the slopes at Beech Mtn. "Almost Heaven" made for a joyous Christmas Holiday! From Santa's visit to the Mast General Store on Christmas Eve to tubing at Hawksnest on Christmas Day we had a spectacular time. Waking to a white Christmas and sipping juice and coffee while soaking in the hot tub under falling snow was a treat we will long remember. *12/26 - Still snowing with about 6" on the ground we're heading back home.
