We've just returned from a wonderful 4 night stay at The Big Red House. It exceeded our expectations. Completely comfortable, super clean and well stocked but not cluttered. I am an innkeeper and consider myself pretty picky when it comes to comfort and cleanliness. When traveling with a dog it isn't always easy to find such nice places to stay. We especially enjoyed the artwork in every room and the upstairs deck where we sat with a bottle of wine and watched the sun set into the ocean. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet, all you hear is the ocean! The location can't be beat. Cambria is a great town and the elephant seals and Hearst Castle are just minutes to the North. Fun towns and dog-friendly beaches to explore just minutes to the south. We never went more than 15 minutes north or south and we were busy every minute. Elaine could not have been more friendly and helpful. She left us alone to enjoy our romantic getaway but we always knew we could reach her by phone or email if needed. She has put a lot of her love and care into this house. Enjoy!

Spacious and clean with ocean views in 2 directions. We had a wonderful, quiet, relaxed vacation. Great hiking in nearby hills. From Cerro Alto peak we could see all the way to the Sierras

We love, love, love the Big Red House!! And so do our dogs Lonnie and Hazel!! Walking distance to Moonstone Beach... a 3 minute drive to Main Street or to Fiscalini Ranch... and so close to San Simeon and the Elephant Seals and more! Not to mention the amazing ocean and sunset views from the house! We have spent several magical Thanksgiving weeks in Cambria at the Big Red House, as well as many other quick weekend getaways. The owner Elayne is lovely and wonderful and has become a dear friend. I can't say enough nice things about our experiences at the Big Red House.

We visited The Big Red House in November 2009 - we were celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary & my 62nd birthday. What a wonderful place to be for both! The House instantly makes you feel at home, the view from the master bedroom is wonderful, the sound of the ocean when the window is open will lull you into wonderful dreams! Of course, the Tempurpedic bed helps those dreams along! For a wonderful, relaxing, worthwhile stay at the coast, The Big Red House is the one for us!

The Big Red House was the perfect place for relaxing on our way down the coast from SF to LA. The property is spacious and quiet. We really enjoyed being able to prepare our own meals after having eaten out for many days/nights on our trip. The property is a short drive to Main St, and also to the beach. A nice perk was the nice collection of DVDs on hand for your viewing pleasure. Elaine, the owner of the property, was extremely nice and helpful. My husband & I hope to retire someday in Cambria :)

Thank you for providing a beautiful place to explore the Central Coast. We saw plenty of deer around town, had some great days at the beach, marveled at the Elephant seals, and managed to fit in a couple of days of wine tasting, We love it here and look forward to returning soon.

Thanks again for another fabulous stay at The Big Red House. It's been five years now since we've been gathering here and we still love it. It's the perfect place to relax and get away from all the hustle & bustle of S.F. & L.A. Even with it being a small town we've found something to do every year. WE all just love it and we'll be back next year! Karessa, Angie, Stef, Joanna & Ana

We had a wonderful interlude at the Big Red House. The property is exactly as pictured on the website. It is immaculately clean and filled with exceptional artwork. The fresh flowers were a lovely touch. Although our dog was not familiar with stairs, he soon got used to going up and down. We look forward to returning to the Big Red House!

My family, which includes 3 teenagers and a 120 pound black lab, stayed at The Big Red House for 5 nights in August and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. The house is immaculately maintained and the location is incredible! Apparently most families who stay here bring dogs but you can't tell when you're here. There's not a dog hair to be found in the place! The kitchen is well stocked, the video library is hard to beat, the flat screen TVs are amazing, and so is the view. The master bedroom faces the ocean and when the windows are open and the sea breeze is coming through it is Heaven on earth! The house is located in a very upscale neighborhood and we took walks in the neighborhood every day. If I had to find a complaint (and it's hard to come up with one) I guess it would be that the backyard isn't fenced. Our dog isn't the type that you can just let out and he'll stick around, so we had to take him out on a leash each time he needed to go potty. But who cares. We were on vacation and it was no big deal. We'll definitely be back!

Dear Elaine and Walt: We had the most wonderful time in The Big Red House. Sitting on the balcony watching the sun set into the ocean, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves were all wonderful. Your recommendations for restaurants were all great. The pictures do not do justice to the house and the view. The best part was also having Remy and Kody with us. We can't wait to come back in February. Sincerely, Maria and Don

The Big Red House is a home away from home only better. The art on the walls is enough to warrant a visit. The beds are enough to warrant a return visit. The Monarch Butterflys on the lavender bushes are enough to warrant declaration of heaven perceived. And on the practical side -- washer and dryer, two ovens, dishwasher, huge DVD/Video collection (and DVD players!), so many books on so many subjects, extra blankets and pillows, garage . . . . April proved a lovely time to be at the Big Red House.

When we decided to travel to California we did not know yet that Cambria and the Central Coast belong to the most marvelous places of the world. But just as marvelously we felt the vacation in the Big Red House. Actually we wanted to use this stay, in order to write our book finished. But the wonderful possibilities prevented us to place it completely. Thus we used the time around to enjoy the wonderful Big Red House and the Central Coast. If you don't think Cambria is the greatest place in California, The Big Red House will seal the deal. The Big Red House is without a doubt the best, most wonderful, vacation get-away place anywhere. The accommodations are superb, and with attention to details, like fresh cut flowers, The Big Red House is extra special. Walt & Elaine are wonderful hosts. (DAY 0NE) My dogs were so excited they woke us up at 5:30 AM insisting that I take them to the beach. Finally at 6:30 I relented and I was amazed at the beauty and tranquility of the Central Coast only to come home and find pastries compliments of my most gracious hosts. I'm here for three more days and I know it's going to be fabulous. (DAY TWO)Yesterday we went North to San Simeon and Rocky Point, today we'll go South to Morro Bay and perhaps East to Paso Robles. My friends arrive tonight- more adventures to come. (DAY THREE) We've had such a blast! San Simeon,Ragged Point,Cambria, Cayucos,,dinner in town, scrabble, cards, fireplace, lazy TV watching, walks on the beach. I dont want to go home tomorrow! We'll be back for sure. This is so relaxing! We LOVED it. Thanks so much for having us.

Our stay over New Years has been great. It was the perfect location for the six of us to relax and visit. We've enjoyed the house and appreciated the attention to detail (the Christmas decorations, bed covers, and poinsettias) were a special treat. As the first guests in 2003 we hope everyone that follows us this year has as great a time as we did.
