I have stayed at Vista San Bernardo on 2 occasions and would highly recommend it. The view is fantastic and Bernardo is a great host. I stayed in La Terrazza both times. La Terrazza obviously has the better view, while La Casita offers more privacy. Other than I can’t really compare the two units in detail. On both my visits I didn’t have a car and walked into town daily. The hike back up the hill is a bit steep but manageable, and I viewed it as an opportunity to get into better shape, which I did. Both units share a wonderful patio/bar and swimming pool, a location that makes for a great spot to share meals and to visit. All in all, Bernardo has created a unique and delightful atmosphere that is a perfect place for enjoying the charms of Mexico.

A truly magical place ! We stayed for six days and each day was better than the next. Staying at San Bernardo and actually being able to meet and get to know Bernardo created such a wonderful experience (the authentic Mexican experience). We met such an amazing array of people and had so many incredible moments. I can really see why so many people visit, fall in love and then either never leave or ultimately relocate to La Manzanilla.........We will definitely be back!

I found my happiness at La Manzanilla. The moment you arrive to Manzanillo airport and travel up north about 1 hour, you take a side road to paradise in this small un-touched town. The culture of La Manzanilla is pure and beautiful. Every morning to have a cup of coffee by the pool and overlook the ocean was magic. Each evening to sit and drink wine and watch the sunset was breathtaking. I would recommend Bernardo’s place over any other in La Manzanilla. He is a true host, knows the majority of people in town, and knows where to go for a day trip. The accommodations are just right for a true Mexican vacation. We had a great time meeting all of the locals who greeted us each day at the local restaurants and bars. The beaches are by far the best around Barra and La Manzanilla. Thank you Bernardo!

We had a wonderful week at VSB in La Manzanilla! When we arrived at VSB and saw the casa/patio/pool/view we gave each other a high-five! La Terazza is a wonderful accommodation...open-air to the breezes coming off of the ocean, adorably decorated, and AMAZING views over the bay. It's a west-facing view, so you're guaranteed a beautiful sunset every night. And it was so nice to have the pool to jump into at the end of a long day at the beach! Bernardo is a dear and a wonderful host - full of information about La Manz & recommendations on things to do in the area...and he sings the Mexican ballads as well as any local! And we miss hanging out with the dear puppy Chulita... We befriended the folks staying in La Casita & checked the place out...I don't think the website photos do it justice! It's a large, comfortable, nicely decorated space with a beautiful garden that opens directly onto the bar/pool area....a bargain at Bernardo's price! La Manz is the perfect town for anyone who isn't into the touristy/resort vibe. There are enough gringos running around to ensure some yummy restaurants & whathaveyou, but it's not tourist-ville...no one hassles you on the (beautiful!) beach and there are only a couple stores in town that sell cheezy souvenirs... mostly it's a legit Mexican town going about its business with a few gringos running around...perfect as far as we were concerned! And there's enough to do/explore in the area that we wished we'd been able to stay for an extra week! I can't imagine anyone staying at this place and not being happy.....enjoy! Kristen & Matt

Small Town Mexican Adventure

We spent a wonderful month at VSB. The weather was perfect every day (always sunny, no rain) and with VSB's location perched above the village of La Manzanilla (pop. about 2,000) we could always count on returning from the beach or hot village below to the patio and pool for amazing views and cool breezes. Bernardo has been coming for decades to the area from California, so he was always at hand for helpful advice. He is well known both within the friendly community of expats which enjoys La Manzanilla each winter and within the Mexican community. As to the latter, we were charmed by the friendly "holas", waves and smiles of the Mexicans in this close knit community. We enjoyed virtually all of our tasty meals at some of the many good restaurants in town, several of which are owned by expats from the US or Europe. We especially enjoyed paying a fraction for both food and drink versus dining out back home! As we had our car, it was easy to drive up and down on the narrow, twisting dirt roads into the village. There were also several taxis always available in the central square which could be engaged for a nominal amount. In addition, we enjoyed many invigorating hikes on the mountain roads, some in company with Bernardo's friendly Labradoodle, Chulita. The beach is several miles long and has some of the cleanest fine-grained sand we have ever experienced. For an authentic and most enjoyable small town Mexican adventure, we wholeheartedly recommend VSB and La Manzanilla.

We just spent two weeks here and found it very quiet, relaxing, and fun. Owner Bernardo is OK and very accommodating, but his sidekick pup Chulita is the real host. For a small fishing village, La Manzanilla has several very good restaurants and one of the best beaches in the area.

Its been a while, but I recall well lounging by the pool, drinking a "house special" Margarita and enjoying the holidays in the sunshine (rather than the rain and cold of Vancouver.) La Terraza was comfortable and well appointed. It was, for us, the ideal vacation spot. Thanks Bernardo. Our Best A & B.

I enjoyed a month a quiet rest here overlooking the town and the bay. I was able to get my work done online and to enjoy evenings at a number of good restaurants in town. The place was great and I became friends with Bernardo.
