My husband and I, our friend and his two daughters, spent a delightful week at Villa Maitena in mid-July and greatly enjoyed the lovely flat, with its excellent stereo system (you can bring your own CDs or ipod), well-equipped kitchen, immaculately clean and pleasant rooms and bathrooms. Of course, the outstanding feature was the deck with the stunning view of Villafranche. We spent all our time when not seeing the sights, longing on the deck, reading, and sharing our meals there. We saw the fireworks for July 13 (a day early) from the deck over Villafranche and the next night, strolled up to the atmospheric Fort St. Albans 5 minutes away to watch them over Nice. While we walked up from utterly charming Villafranche at the water in about 25 to 30 minutes, with heat and narrow roads, walking in summer may not be the best option. We also drove, and buses into Nice are convenient (14 and 82)—I think they run till ~ 8 pm. Especially during high season, returning to the serenity of the deck at Villa Maitena after the many sightseeing choices was peaceful, and I sometimes walked up to Ft. St. Albans for the even more amazing view there. We were thrilled with Villa Maitena and also felt it was excellent value for the money. We are grateful to the owner for the care and attention she has put into furnishing and providing this truly lovely flat.

Breathtaking View

We spent 2 weeks in this beautiful apartment overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The interior, the balcony, the grounds, the location were wonderful. Every morning we awoke to a glorious view of the sparkling Sea. From here we could travel to Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez, Monaco in a fairly short time. On Fridays there is a huge open air market in Ventimiglia, Italy. A train ride, which is located just a few minutes from the Villa, takes you there in about an hour for about 12 euros. The owner was available to us at all times. Just at the bottom of the hill from the Villa there is a wonderful restaurant specializing in Paella as well as a grocery store, patisserie, butcher shop and post office. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting the Nice area.

Recommended for:Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wonderful place to spend a few weeks

My family and I planned a trip to France and came across this wonderful villa right between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Nice. We had incredible views and were walking distance to Nice and Villefranche. At least for us it was walking distance. Their was a trail just above us into the woods with more views. There was a baker, butcher and grocery store 3 minutes away. We had a wonderful time cooking and relaxing on the terrace. We all enjoyed ourselves and will return again when we can. You have everything you need to feel like it's your own home away from home. You want to be a local and explore the Cote d'Azur? This is the place for you!!

Beautiful apartment on the Cote d'Azur

My family and I enjoyed a fantastic week in this apartment. The views were so beautiful and we would sit on the big patio for breakfast, drinks and dinner and enjoy the great light. The interior was so fresh and clean and spacious and we were never in each others way. We would definitely recommend it and hope to return.

We stayed in this beautiful home overlooking the city of Nice on one side, and the village of Villefranche on another. The location was perfect for driving or taking the bus into Nice or driving and walking into Villefranche! Its very easy to get to all the major roads and the airport from here. This rental is truly feels like home and furnished with very comfortable beds and linens including beach towels. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and the patio is very large, with extraordinary views, and large eating table and lounge chairs. The family room is set with a high quality TV and cable service. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and there is a clothes washer dedicated for guests. The whole houses sits behind a privacy fence and gate, and there is ample parking within the courtyard. Villa Maitena is a wonderful place to stay.

We Stayed at Villa Maitena from Oct 4-11, 2008 with another couple. It is a clean, spacious and fully equipped with an excellent location to all the nearby towns on the French Riviera. We were in awe when we saw the terrace with the spectacular view. All of us would love to return to this amazing villa someday.

Our family of 5 spent 2 wonderful weeks at Villa Maitena. The views from the terrace are beautiful, the accomodations spacious and clean, and the location convenient. It was more than we expected. We would definately consider returning to this villa.

I stayed at Villa Maitena with my husband, son & son's friend for a week 4-11 August, 2007. We were really impressed with the quality of the apartment. It had everything we needed & was close to local shops & buses. Views from the apartment were wonderful & it was lovely to have meals outside on the terrace after days out sightseeing. We were spoilt for places to visit nearby (too many to fit into one week) & one day we hope to return. The owner was on hand to give advice if required & we found this most useful. Highly recommended.

My wife and I have rented this Villa in March 2005 and March 2007. It is an exceptional property very well fitted with great views over Villefranche harbour. It is ideally situate for touring the French and Italian Rivieras and Nice is just down the road. There is a great little Casino (grocery store) within easy walking distance for your morning pain au chocolat and baquette. I would highly recommend it.

I stayed in this villa with three close friends in July '07, and cannot fault it. The setting is quite magical, and we spent long wonderful hours never tiring of one of the most beautiful views imaginable, in between trips to Nice and Villefranche both of which offer very contrasting tastes of the coast. The property itself is scrupulously clean, super safe, comfortable and airy. Our hostess was very professional and discreet and all in all, as four very well travelled Europhiles, we agreed it was the best holiday we had ever had. Superb.

My two brothers and our wives spent 6 weeks throughout Spain, France, and Itally, and our week at Villa Maitena in Villafranche was the most enjoyable. Its location is perfect...easy rides to Eze, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Cannes, St. Tropez, Antibes, Frejus, etc. The accomodations are spacious and immaculate, and the views spectacular from a large deck that invited our group to bbq and relax after our excursions. Our host Mary was gracious and helpful, as were all the French we met on our adventure, and we hope to someday return to this enchanting location.
