What a gorgeous little cottage! This cottage pretty much sums up the type of experience you can expect from the whole island of Salt Spring. The cottage it self, is on the small side. An L shaped kitchen, living room, dinning room combo. Down a small hall way you have the one bedroom across from the one 4 piece (tub shower combo) bathroom. Everything was clean and working, but nothing fancy like a high end hotel. Simple and clean, just what I expected. The kitchen has more then enough utensils to stay in and cook all of your meals. The welcome basket the owners leave (much appreciated) is just a small sampling of the fresh organic food and produce readily available everywhere on the island. The cabin is decorated with some beautiful and informative wall hangings on the history of the island, with some maps of some great hiking trails! Located high up on a hill behind the owners house and studio the cottage is PRIVATE PRIVATE PRIVATE! Having stayed multiple times at various rentals on the island, this place is perfectly tucked away behind some bushes high away from any neighbours or people. The HOTTUB! (can you tell how awesome this was) is completely private with a tree overtop and 8 foot hedges on all sides. Having visited in February this was a perfect location relax in at the end of the day with a glass of wine staring up at the stars. A window opens to the cabin right next door to play some music out of while relaxing. Out the rear of the cabin is a small trail leading down to the creek in the back, a great place to walk with your morning coffee. The two sheep and many chickens on the property were adorable. We were able to feed Molly and her friend some fresh fruit before we left - they ate it right out of our hands! The cabin is only a short 20 minute walk from the town of Ganges. Granted, you do have some hills to trek to get there but that is pretty much expected anywhere on the island. Ganges is where pretty much everything happens on the island - restaurants, music, hiking trails - they all start and end around the town. The website on this cabin truly does not do it justice - it's setting and privacy are far more serene and beautiful. I would recommend this rental to any romantic couple or pair of friends. It might be a little to small for a family with children or multiple couples, although they do have a pull out bed. While Mount Maxwell is a beautiful drive, if your up to is physically, hike Mount Erskine - MUCH better views/hike!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Many thanks to Matt for highlighting the PRIVACY of this cottage. It is situated at the other end of our 5-acre property and is not near to or overlooked by any other property. You can dine on the large outdoor deck or soak in the hot tub and feel completely at ease. This is your own PRIVATE space with trails directly from your front door. This is the country yet we are within walking distance of Ganges. Our sheep are hand-reared - they love to be petted and given treats. You can also feed the chickens and enjoy some of their delicious, fresh, free-range eggs.

We booked this cottage due to the good reviews, and the nice pictures. What a mistake. It is a run down cottage that has not had any updating. I felt the air was so stagnant in the cottage, due probably to, we assumed poor ,old, ventilation. There was a tarp on the roof, and over the skylight in the kitchen. We were expecting a flood on the kitchen floor (where the skylight was) if it rained in the night. The bed was a disaster, was hung like a hammock, and the fold out couch was no better, with no sheets on the fold out anyways. The hottub was slimy on the inside. We got in and dashed out. Supposed to be internet at their "office" or business on their property, but twice we went down there (to inquire about a keycode for the front door of the cottage, which we had to leave open) and although it said "open" there was no one there. This is a bare bones type of deal, which is ok, if the owner is willing to charge a bare bones price. If the owner is charging what they are charging, at least get a new roof, mow the lawns and tend to the shrubs around the place (shrubs almost smothering the hot tub area) The property just looked totally uncared for. Grasses were so high my allergies were awful there, but once we left the property calmed down. We felt ripped off, and wanted to get out as soon as possible, but we had missed the last ferry. We ended up in Victoria, and stayed at the oceanfront suite at Cowichan Bay, and it was marvelous, and much much cheaper, with two full rooms, kitchen fridge, sofa, king bed, tv internet and ocean views! We've never been to such a poor rental, asking so much money for what we considered awful accomodations, and we travel extensively. We lost our money on the last two nights, as we left, and the owner was not willing to return even one night of that money. But it was worth it to get out of there! Just be forewarned. THe pictures make the place much much nicer than it is.Owner response: These renters booked after not carefully reading our literature which clearly states that the bedroom contains a queen-sized bed. They wanted a king size and wanted their money back because of this. We advertised the remaining nights but there were no takers. This unpleasant review is their response. Yes it is a country location on a farm, clearly stated in the literature, and people who come here love the laid-back, country feel, 'away from it all' atmosphere. The lawns are deliberately not fully mown so that we can enjoy the display of wild flowers, foxgloves, daisies, etc. If you are looking for a place with a city feel and manicured lawns this would not be the right place for you.

Philip and Kim Thank you so much for letting us stay at your cottage in the woods. We had a fabulous time and were lucky to have the sunshine all weekend. Sam and Joey loved exploring the real outdoors - a real novelty for them! They also enjoyed doing ALL the puzzles! Most of all it was a long awaited family experience in the outdoors and Salt Spring Island is perfect - almost home from home (the UK that is). Thank you again for your hospitality - the welcome basket (yum) and Philip showing the boys your fab railway - toot, toot!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/3

Thank you very much. The stay was excellent. Having just arrived on SSI, we had not picked up any groceries - the welcome basket was great. The surrounding property was very quiet and beautiful; exactly what we needed - a weekend getaway; something we had both needed for a very long time.Did you find this review helpful? Thank you Philip and Kim. The welcome basket was very nice and the eggs were delicious. We loved the walk from the cottage along the quiet, winding roads to town. The quiet is always a nice reprieve from the city.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you so very much for having us in your lovely Salt Spring cottage. This was our first trip to Canada and it was a perfect introduction. The house is charming and, while very spacious, feels cozy and warm. We loved feeling tucked away in the woods but, simultaneously, being so close to town. The property and surrounding area is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our little getaway here. Thank you for providing a gift basket and a host of other great accommodations. We are sad to leave.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for the beautiful space. It made for a perfect Salt Spring getaway. Talk about tranquility! Dell is beautiful; we loved meeting her and the hot tub was wonderful. Wonderful energy here: safe, warm, loving. The prayer of St Francis on the wall brings healing to a grieving heart in a way you don't know. Thank you.Did you find this review helpful? A beautiful retreat for a "sisters' weekend". We got lost a few times on the island roads but always found our way back "home"! The cottage was clean and well-equipped - the only thing missing was the warmth of an Indian summer (darn those west coast drizzles). Thanks for your hospitality. The coffee was delicious and the chickens (and their eggs).Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great long weekend with perfect weather. The hot tub was magnificent (thanks for turning it down) as was the starter breakfast and fresh air. The most comfortable place we have stayed in. Thanks also for your help sorting out the front wheel trouble - glad it turned out to be so easy to fix. We hope you'll have us back next summer.Did you find this review helpful? Tranquility Cottage is well named - it was so peaceful and quiet. We saw a deer every night right up near the cottage. I don't know how you arranged the clear blue skies and all the sunshine during our stay but we really appreciated it. We had a lovely stay. Take care.Did you find this review helpful? We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Tranquility. Your cottage was beautifully maintained and we loved the little touches: fresh cut herbs and flowers, the obvious thoughts to landscaping to give the sense of home away from home. Just perfect.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/2

Fabulous week providing the R+R we craved. We explored the parks, hunted for shells on many beaches and climbed Mt Erskine. Best part was returning to Tranquility Cottage where our every need was met. We have stayed in many private accomodations and your Welcome Bascket was a treat - this gift often disappears after the first or second season but not here. Keep up the great work, it's appreciated.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

I just wanted to thank you for a lovely weekend. We absolutely loved the cottage....very homey and comfortable and the setting could not have been any more perfect. The welcome basket was absolutely amazing....definitely the best eggs we have ever eaten...the baguette was a much needed item considering how good the local cheese is...and I must admit that it was the perfect melon! Everything was fantastic and we could not have hoped for a more relaxing and great weekend. Thanks again for allowing to arrive so late on Friday night.Did you find this review helpful?
