What you see is what you get--pictures show the rooms just as they are. Lots of love and care has been put into this home. It is an older house, but updated in all rooms. There are large closets in all bedrooms except the lower bedroom which is the smallest room. The downstairs bath is right off the kitchen as you enter the home from the back and has a shower/tub and very nice sink area. All updated.3 baths upstairs. Lots of towels and the place was very clean. LOVED the big square table in the dining area which seated eight (two on each side) and was actually able to seat 10 on a couple of occasions. The kitchen has nice cabinets and refrig is good size. If you are coffee drinkers, bring a few nice size mugs as the only coffee cups are those little ones that come with your dish sets. Coffee maker, toaster, blender--all provided. Large soup pots, plenty of dishes and glassware. We cooked up lots of great meals and had what we needed for the most part. Dishwasher was a mystery to us--either only ran for a couple of minutes or what seemed like hours so we just ended up running it for a while and then stopped it. We had bonfires at the fire pit on three seperate nights and loved it!! Great spot just up from the house and we could seat about 12 chairs around it for our marshmallows. We did not have any problem with bugs although we brought spray. There was a closet with marshmallow forks, bug spray and trash liners right off the kitchen. Very thoughtful. We recycled which I thought was great and directions were easy for trash removal. All beds seemed very comfortable and nice comforters on each bed. Window airconditioners but unnecessary for most as the house seemed to vent very nicely. On of our favorite areas (besides the dining table) was, of course, the front porch. Great white rockers (four or five?) and then the chairs we brought. We were out there each morning eating breakfast and drinking our coffee, reading our kindles. Peace, peace, peace. The wasps would sometimes drive us in after a while but usually later in the morning as it warmed up. This area is very hilly, so the walking was sometimes a challenge and bike riding was WOW! Only for the fittest! It is, however, a very short drive up J into Elkhart and you can walk all around town and bike there easily. We never got to kayak, as the wind was a factor, but the two kayaks were available. Don't count on the hot tub, but the rest of the place was fantastic. Would love to return!

Stayed at Stoney Hill this past weekend for my nephews wedding with extended family. House was just what we needed in regards to bedrooms and baths. Just right for everyone getting ready for wedding. Only bad thing I can say about the house is it has terrible water pressure. We really had a great weekend and coming back to Stoney Hill after the festivities was like coming home.

My husband and I have stayed here twice with another couple. Both times we made last minute reservations and the property manager was wonderfully accommodating, The house is gorgeous. There is plenty of room outside for pets or kids to run around. We loved all the bathrooms and towels. Everything you could ever need is provided in the kitchen, Unfortunately, I have two complaints. If you happen to be two adult couples staying at The Stoney Hill Guesthouse, prepare to duel over the "good bedroom." One of the bedrooms has been updated and has an amazing bed. The other bedrooms are acceptable. When we realized one of us was getting a far inferior room it was disappointing, I know renovations are expensive, but I bet most people would be willing to pay $10 more a day for another nice bedroom; I suggest the downstairs bedroom would be a good candidate. If you are a large family who just needs a lot of beds, you will be thrilled. And the room with all the bunk beds is really fun just to hang out in. My second complaint is why we will not be coming back to the Guesthouse. Our first visit was in fall of 2010 and there was a problem with the hot tub. When we went to use it the first night it was not hot. Every other place that I have stayed with a hot tub the property manager had it hot and ready for us. The next morning I called the property manager to inquire about the not-so-hot-tub, left a voice message, and got no response ever. Later that afternoon we found hot tub instructions under some other manuals by the television! We figured out how to turn the heat up, but it only raised a degree or two an hour. By night time the tub was an acceptable temperature, so we got in only to find out that the tub could not maintain the temperature with the cover off. So our time in the tub was greatly limited. We gave the Guesthouse a second chance this past May. With the knowledge of our previous visit we checked the hot tub before we unlocked the house. Sure enough, it was in Power Saver mode. So we turned it up and 4 hours later it was warm enough to get in. But again, after 20 minutes the temperature dropped so low that we had to get out. Same thing happened the second night. Since we came to the Stoney Hill Guesthouse for the hot tub and it really is just a tub, we will not be coming back. But I do recommend The Guesthouse for those who don't care about the hot tub, and want a nice, clean place with lots of beds and bathrooms.

Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children.

Owner response: The hot tub is now hardwired and heats much faster than before, but it still does need a patient touch on the controls. Pushing the buttons in fast succession will change the programming. Many times it gets into vacation mode. One would think this is a good thing but it really means that the tub doesn’t heat as fast. There are instructions at the house that will guide you through it if by chance this does happen. Regarding the bedrooms. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs that have equally expensive and comfortable linens with queen sized mattresses. One bedroom is a suite with a private bath that overlooks the lake; the other bedroom does not have a private bath. Both have new and antique furniture. The master does have an impressive 4 poster bed while the other bedroom has a high quality & wonderful bed, it is not nearly as visually impressive as a the 4 poster. The bunk room has futon mattresses, 2 full and 2 twins, that are great for kids and in addition, this room has a roomy private bath. The first floor bedroom has a full bed and a TV. I am not sure why any rooms are “inferior” to the others but the first floor bedroom is the one I prefer when I stay at the house.

We took full advantage of the hot tub, fire pit and rocking baby to sleep on the front porch! Mauthee Lake was a fairly short drive away, so family dog Riley got to swim at the pet friendly boat launch! The weather was great and we hope to make it back soon! Thanks f or the great accommodations and fond memories! Sincerely, Cory, Linnea Aria & Ryley DeBraal

Where do I begin? This home is WONDERFUL! We had a very memorable family gathering at this beautiful, charming and spacious home. I am so happy we decided to stay a full week! The view of the lake was spectacular from the comfortable rocking chairs on the front porch. We enjoyed the hot tub and kayaks too. The home is beautifully decorated and the FOUR bathrooms were great!! We had a fun time playing Apples to Apples. The home is ideally located too. We visited Elkhart Lake of course, as well as Plymouth, FDL, Kohler and Sheboygan Falls. The kitchen is updated nicely as well. I appreciated having a dishwasher and large dining room table. I am very happy this is a pet friendly rental! My small dog and my parents toy poodle were very "at home" here. This is definately a home I would recommend to anyone. I just hope we can return again in the future! Thank you, Karen for making this wonderful, charming home available to rent.
