Stayed at Stoney Hill this past weekend for my nephews wedding with extended family. House was just what we needed in regards to bedrooms and baths. Just right for everyone getting ready for wedding. Only bad thing I can say about the house is it has terrible water pressure. We really had a great weekend and coming back to Stoney Hill after the festivities was like coming home.

My husband and I have stayed here twice with another couple. Both times we made last minute reservations and the property manager was wonderfully accommodating, The house is gorgeous. There is plenty of room outside for pets or kids to run around. We loved all the bathrooms and towels. Everything you could ever need is provided in the kitchen, Unfortunately, I have two complaints. If you happen to be two adult couples staying at The Stoney Hill Guesthouse, prepare to duel over the "good bedroom." One of the bedrooms has been updated and has an amazing bed. The other bedrooms are acceptable. When we realized one of us was getting a far inferior room it was disappointing, I know renovations are expensive, but I bet most people would be willing to pay $10 more a day for another nice bedroom; I suggest the downstairs bedroom would be a good candidate. If you are a large family who just needs a lot of beds, you will be thrilled. And the room with all the bunk beds is really fun just to hang out in. My second complaint is why we will not be coming back to the Guesthouse. Our first visit was in fall of 2010 and there was a problem with the hot tub. When we went to use it the first night it was not hot. Every other place that I have stayed with a hot tub the property manager had it hot and ready for us. The next morning I called the property manager to inquire about the not-so-hot-tub, left a voice message, and got no response ever. Later that afternoon we found hot tub instructions under some other manuals by the television! We figured out how to turn the heat up, but it only raised a degree or two an hour. By night time the tub was an acceptable temperature, so we got in only to find out that the tub could not maintain the temperature with the cover off. So our time in the tub was greatly limited. We gave the Guesthouse a second chance this past May. With the knowledge of our previous visit we checked the hot tub before we unlocked the house. Sure enough, it was in Power Saver mode. So we turned it up and 4 hours later it was warm enough to get in. But again, after 20 minutes the temperature dropped so low that we had to get out. Same thing happened the second night. Since we came to the Stoney Hill Guesthouse for the hot tub and it really is just a tub, we will not be coming back. But I do recommend The Guesthouse for those who don't care about the hot tub, and want a nice, clean place with lots of beds and bathrooms.
Owner response:The hot tub is now hardwired and heats much faster than before, but it still does need a patient touch on the controls. Pushing the buttons in fast succession will change the programming. Many times it gets into vacation mode. One would think this is a good thing but it really means that the tub doesn’t heat as fast. There are instructions at the house that will guide you through it if by chance this does happen. Regarding the bedrooms. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs that have equally expensive and comfortable linens with queen sized mattresses. One bedroom is a suite with a private bath that overlooks the lake; the other bedroom does not have a private bath. Both have new and antique furniture. The master does have an impressive 4 poster bed while the other bedroom has a high quality & wonderful bed, it is not nearly as visually impressive as a the 4 poster. The bunk room has futon mattresses, 2 full and 2 twins, that are great for kids and in addition, this room has a roomy private bath. The first floor bedroom has a full bed and a TV. I am not sure why any rooms are “inferior” to the others but the first floor bedroom is the one I prefer when I stay at the house.

July 24-26, 2009 Had a wonderful time on our first family vacation with infant Aria! We took full advantage of the hot tub, fire pit and rocking baby to sleep on the front porch! Mauthee Lake was a fairly short drive away, so family dog Riley got to swim at the pet friendly boat launch! The weather was great and we hope to make it back soon! Thanks f or the great accommodations and fond memories! Sincerely, Cory, Linnea Aria & Ryley DeBraal

Where do I begin? This home is WONDERFUL! We had a very memorable family gathering at this beautiful, charming and spacious home. I am so happy we decided to stay a full week! The view of the lake was spectacular from the comfortable rocking chairs on the front porch. We enjoyed the hot tub and kayaks too. The home is beautifully decorated and the FOUR bathrooms were great!! We had a fun time playing Apples to Apples. The home is ideally located too. We visited Elkhart Lake of course, as well as Plymouth, FDL, Kohler and Sheboygan Falls. The kitchen is updated nicely as well. I appreciated having a dishwasher and large dining room table. I am very happy this is a pet friendly rental! My small dog and my parents toy poodle were very "at home" here. This is definately a home I would recommend to anyone. I just hope we can return again in the future! Thank you, Karen for making this wonderful, charming home available to rent.

June 2009 Karen, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Many a racing story was told while sitting outside on the patio and around the dining room table. I particularly liked the hot tub~watching the stars and relaxing my achy muscles from a day at the track. See you and Stoney Hill again next year! The Werths Silver Spring MI

What a charming home you have here on “Stoney Hill”! As I was the first to arrive- I was pleasantly surprised as I toured the home , room by room admiring both the age of the home & its Décor. This truly has been a most relaxing, fun and memorable week. Some of us enjoyed the Kayaks, or hot tub or just sitting on the porch. We all enjoyed the Apples to Apples game!! I especially liked the fact you have FOUR great bathrooms in the home, not to mention, a dishwasher, washing machine & dryer. Your home is in a great location, too! Convenient to Fond du Lac & Sheboygan etc. Thanks you for sharing this beautiful home with us & for the wonderful memories! Sharon Detro & Family (Chicago area)P.S. Thank you for allowing our pets! Toy Poodle & my Coton de Tulear’ felt right at home in their crates.

MontanaDear Karen: Jean & I are back in Montana now, but I would like you to know that we really enjoyed our stay in your house. It worked out just fine, the amount of room needed was just right. We walked and ran around the lake many times and the distance was just right. Thank you so much for the opportunity. We would like to make this same trip some year during the summer months. I'll bet it is beautiful. Thanks and happy new year! Mike and Jean

This house is beautiful! The paint downstairs is so bright and cheery, and the bedrooms upstairs are perfect for a large family to get together! We had a great time outside, taking walks to Elkhart and roasting marshmallows at night, as well as relaxing on the wonderful porch. And of course we still had a great time when the weather wasn't so good, playing many board games on that nice dining room table. We highly recommend the Apples to Apples game- you will laugh for hours! We also went to some nice resturants and shops in Plymouth + Elkhart Lake, especially the bookstores and coffee shops. We especially liked the ice cream and mint chocolate flurries from the vintage drive-in, Chester's. We had a great time and hope to come again! Love Sara, Abi, Nancy, John, and Judy

9/26/06 9:00AM Brisk, sunny morning- just lovely- Thank God for the Internet and that I can type and "surf the web" - Been to Elkhart many times, and can truly say that the stay here at the "House on Stoney Hill" was the very best accomadation choice. It's all been said in the previous guest comments, so I will 'ditto' all the aforesaid- and I will promise to myself that I will be back to this lovely, cozy, fun, comfortable, cheery, peaceful and memorable sweet spot... Also loved being able to hear the engines from Road America for the Champs Car Grand Prix 2006, awesome! Thanks Karen for all your info and assistance. You know you just have to keep this place going cause you've got 7 new folks in your fan club who will be returning! See you next year! Best Regards, Kathleen & Sean Tallahassee, FL

28 June 2006 This place is great. We did so much in 3 days. The house is big and spacious, with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. We had so much fun kayaking and using the hot tub. It was so nice getting out of the city and spending time in the beautiful countryside. We even went trout fishing and cooked a fresh trout dinner. Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home. We hope to come again in the future. Thanks again!!

August 18-25,2006 What a wonderful place for a family to gather! The quietness of the countryside, the fresh air,the birds chirping. God's country this is!!Loved the quaintness of the Home and oh so beautifully decorated. The old Radiators bring back old old memories. Nice quiet walks in the morning; so refreshing. What can be more Heavenly than spending quality time with your children and grandchildren. ...Reading on the "fish porch",tranquil it is and so refreshing.... What a fabulous vacation! This house was perfect for our family of 5 and all of our visitors! We really enjoyed the camp fires and smores while we reconnected with friends and family. It was so nice to get away from the rat race in Florida and relax. This house and property made this last vacation one of the most memorable. We will definately be back from some more R&R.

We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival to discover the tastefully decorated,(we just love the fish!)bright, cheery, very clean and incrediblly spacious living space of this beautiful lake home! (We had plenty of room for 5 adults, 2 hard to please teenagers and 2 dogs!) The quiet calm of the lake, surrounded by the peaceful wooded area was just what we needed to relax and unwind, and forget the stress and worries of our everyday lives. Cooking dinner out on the grill, and roasting marshmellows over the open fire late in the evening allowed us to soak up the feel of the outdoors but still have all the comforts of a hotel. There were so many activities to choose from we had a hard time deciding just what to do first! Kyaking was so much fun, what a treat! Horseback riding just down the road, the golf course was practically accross the street, Road America just around the corner, Elkart Lake with Firemans Park and all the places to eat and shop and even catch a live band or two!(now who doesn't want to go out and "shake your booty" on vacation?) We had just a wonderful time. It was a romantic setting for the adults and a fun spot for the kids, our only regret is that we didn't stay long enough! ...There is always next year!! Thank you for all your hospitality! We will be back!

I grew up in this area and love to return. I felt right at home in this comfortable, spacious and private rental. My 6 year old and friend had a great time in the large secluded yard & front porch. The fire pit area is surrounded by trees so we felt like we were in the northwoods. The dining and living space were great for entertaining my local friends. The Kettle Moraine hiking trails are beautiful for a morning hike and there is just so much to do in Elkhart Lake. From swimming/boating, dining/cafes, shops, art galleries, (Two Fish in particular), plus all the sites and activities in Kohler and Sheboygan, which are so close. Don't forget to check out the vintage ice cream shop while you are there. We will be returning.
