Going West you reach Ma'alaea Harbor (<1 mile) with its great new Maui Ocean Center aquarium (rated Maui's #1 tourist attraction), dinner cruises, sport fishing, miniature golf, snorkel rental, ice cream shop, restaurants and shops, including the five star rated Waterfront Restaurant.
4 Golf courses are within 5 miles - including Sandalwood, Waikapu, Maui Lani, and Elleair (Silversword), with the world-famous Wailea and Makena courses only a few miles south. Ka'anapali is only 30 minutes north. Other fun resources, bicycle rentals, etc. are near.

Why the Owner Chose Maalaea
Although we love Hana, we found when our friends and kids visit Maui, they want some time in the resort area, where the action is, and we want to be able to be with them there too. Also, we come to "the other side" for shopping every few weeks, and needed a place to stay for a day or two. We made a list, and spent a year looking. Kanai a Nalu fit the bill perfectly: three mile white sand beach, third floor gives us a view, with privacy and security. There are two private bedrooms with separate bathrooms, concrete walls between units, immaculate grounds, large parking lot, and located on a dead end street just down from a harbor with restaurants, a snorkel shop, and boats for snorkeling, whale watching, dinners cruises, and sports fishing. Yet, we're just twenty minutes from the airport, Costco, Sears, Safeway, Macy's and Home Depot.
The Unique Benefits at this Condominium
Sugar Beach starts at Kanai a Nalu and extends three miles toward Kehei. It has areas for snorkeling, board surfing, fishing, and just playing in the waves. A few steps from Kanai is a gentle area for kids, "Freight Train" down towards Maalaea Harbor is for serious surfboarders.
Since we live on Maui and use the unit ourselves, we make sure the kitchen is fully stocked with the little things like coffee grinder, world-class blender, garlic press...you get the idea.
There are plenty of open outlets at both sides of the beds to plug in all your stuff; Roadrunner internet wired and wireless, including a computer with windows XP pro, flat screen High Definition TV... again, the details make the difference.
Owner's Map of Maalaea
We retired from Denver in 1999 to Maui, where we bought a 12 acre farm in Hana, East Maui. We loved the snowy mountains of Colorado, but we were ready for a more tranquil and temperate clime. Dixie worked as data processing manager at two Denver companies. Dean taught computer science at the University of Denver; he served as an EMT on a volunteer fire department for twenty three years, then on the board of directors for seven years. In 1979, with one of our sons, we started American Datapath, Inc. to install computer cabling and fiber optics in buildings. Ron runs the company now.
We have 18 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren at last count; our family is scattered throughout the mainland and Europe.
