The rear bedroom has twin beds, step-out balcony windows overlooking the pomegranate tree, a walk-in closet, and tiled bath and shower. The house, Casa del Granado, takes its name from this tree.

You’ll love your choices for relaxation and enjoyment throughout this thoroughly modern home with 18th century walls. The sleeper study (sunroom) off the outdoor sala features a twin trundle bed along with desk, half bath, desk, TV/DVD, and views of the patio and fountain. Another half bath is found by the entrance foyer.

The home was designed by Eliazar Torres to combine 18th century charm with 21st century convenience; professionally decorated by Carl Selph to delight the senses; plantscaped by Tim Wachter to create an oasis of rest and calm. This home is in the best area of town, across the street from the home of actress Margarita Gralia, close to buses and within short walks to everything, only three blocks from the Jardin. There is parking on the street and a supervised facility is close by.

Lucy, the maid, comes to clean and change the linens. She can also cook for you. The property is also professionally managed by an English speaking manager who is always on call in case you have any problems. Why the Owner Chose Centro Historico

The home was a ruina when we bought it, and it was an adventure bringing it back to life. Building in Mexico is so magical. The house is like a work of art to us that we get to walk through and live in! San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO World Heritage site full of beauty and history. We walk everywhere, and love our property's privacy, quiet, and stunning views.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The house itself is a sweet place to enjoy any time, and it changes through the day as the light and temperatures change. We love walking to the Jardin in the evening to join in the "paseo," and visiting the nearby Parque Juarez. Walking the streets, and visiting the town's many shop and restaurants, is great fun. We love the vibrant cultural life of San Miguel. And visits to the Charco, the botanic garden, and the hot springs, are also treat!

Owner's Map of Centro Historico

We three "ran away from home" to San Miguel de Allende for a six month "sabbatical" in 2004. We picked San Miguel for its beauty, history, and vibrant arts community, and because it reminded Stephanie of the neighborhood in which she grew up - San Angel, in Mexico City. Stephanie is bilingual and bicultural. Jay and Camilla are catching up!

    • The four of us arrived at Montes de Oca, Number 12, with great anticipation. The old cobble stone street and the colorful walls of the houses surrounding "our new house" were just the beginning of the beauty that would be part of our seven day stay in San Miguel de Allende. The entry with the candles, the greenery and the fountain was one of the first "Ohhh how beautiful" words out of our mouths. There were many more to follow. One the most beautiful sights was on the rooftop patio when the sun was going down directly behind the cross on the church. It looked like the cross was illuminated by red and pink and blue rays. It was a very spiritual experience. But, of course, there was also the food, the stores, the music, the art, and some of the friendliest people we have met. I hope there are still some things left in the stores after Yvette got through shopping! Laura walked on the cobble stone streets as if they were all flat -- she could have been walking a marathon. Phyllis was the calm one who kept us in line and was especially happy being in the Jardin or staying at the Casa de Granado reading a book. As for me, well, I couldn't stop dancing to the mariachi groups that play around the Jardin. Thank you Jay and Stephanie for sharing your beautiful house. And thanks to Aurelia for the gourmet food she fixed.

    • We had a great time in San Miguel. It is a quaint and beautiful town. We had a lot of fun and even our Spanish improved. We really liked your house. The only problem (not really a problem) was that we were there during the rainy season and we had to wait for the rain to pass to walk from one part to another. None of the rooms are bad to hand out in! Ariana was great and everything was fine. We had no problems at all.

    • We have very much enjoyed staying In Montes de Oca #12 enormously. The house works very well and we have got good use of all of it including the outdoor sala that has become one of our favorite spots. The neighborhood is also very nice and the neighbors very pleasant. The only thing that needs a bit more adaptation on our part are the dogs at night. At the same time we know this is also part of San Miguel life. Thanks also to Lucy who has been a great help. San Miguel won our hearts last year and living in this beautiful nest has made it all the more enjoyable. We learned this visit that one month is not enough, and will double our stay in the future.

    • We had an amazing time in your lovely warm house. The roof patio must have one of the best views in San Miguel and we spent sunsets there eating and drinking and relaxing. You have done such a great job decorating the house, and we felt instantly comfortable there. The location is easy (just a walk down to the central square which is always alive with events and folks just hanging out, to the market, etc.) but it is also secluded, quiet and private. What a sweet place. If we get out act together we will be back there soon.

    • We adored your beautiful home. It was by far the best equipped house we have ever rented. You must have had fun decorating - it was so pretty. We loved the ancient feel with all of the modern conveniences. The 2nd story patio was used daily and most days the rooftop. We were careful and got used to the stairs. It is a lovely location! Your maid was delightful. We can't think of anything we wished for. We always appreciate it when there are a few spices and salt and pepper so we don't have to buy basics like that. You can use us for a reference anytime. Probably coming back next year!

    • We just got back from Mexico. Your house is a beautiful job of restoration. We had a lovely stay and particularly enjoyed the view of the city from the top terrace. We encountered a few irritants that detracted from our experience which were minor problems, but avoidable. Overall, the house is lovely and tasteful and a lot of care has gone into making it so.

      Homeowner Response:
Our guests sometimes see things that need fixing before we do and we welcome their suggestions. We then direct our property management company to make it right.

    • Just back from a delightful month at 12 Montes de Oca. Everything went very well indeed, other than the Vonage telephone that allowed me four calls and then collapsed. Still, we continued to enjoy the beauty, peace and delight available for us. Lucy was great. We are refreshed, relaxed and certainly fitter than when we left. Thank you for renting us your lovely house.
