Spectacular views and 8 miles to downtown...

The moment you enter this unique desert home you will see the magnificent Santa Catalina and Rincon Mountains through a wall of glass.
Located on the WEST side of Tucson in the Tucson Mountain foothills, the home is convenient to Downtown as well as freeway access. The nearest cross streets are El Camino del Cerro at Tortolita. You may map quest the intersection for an approximate location.
Built in the territorial style of adobe brick on 1.4 lush acres, this 2100-square-foot home embraces the indoor/outdoor style of desert living.

Beautifully integrated into the landscape, this special place provides an unusual degree of privacy without isolation. It is located in a quiet neighborhood very convenient to I-10 (three miles) and downtown and the University of Arizona and downtown (eight miles.) Just up the street a few miles is the El Camino del Cerro Trail Head for hiking. Several public and private golf courses are nearby. Day trips to Kartchner Caverns, Tombstone, Bisbee, The Sorona Desert Museum are a cinch.

The terraced and fully enclosed yard and garden feature a deep, black-bottom pool and spa, a covered outdoor kitchen (gas barbecue, refrigerator, sink), lots of native vegetation.

The three bedrooms are arranged on one side of the home. A dining room that seats six, well-equipped kitchen, and den with a 42" flat panel TV with DVD is on the other side of the home. In between the two wings is the living room with a high, pitched, and beamed ceiling, wall of glass with French doors to the patio, and wood-burning fireplace. There is original artwork throughout the rooms.

However, the "room" that is most used is out-of-doors and is accessible through sets of French doors from the den, master bedroom, and living room. This outdoor living room - enclosed by the house on three sides and open to the view, patio, and pool on the fourth - is fully covered by the roof and lit by three skylights. You can enjoy being outside all year and take refuge from the harsh desert sun. There are four wonderfully comfortable patio club chairs with ottomans and a travertine dining table that seats six. It is truly a wonderful place to relax.

As day becomes night and the suns sets behind the Tucson Mountains, you will marvel at the magnificent play of reflected light on the Catalina, Rincon, and Tortolita Mountains to the north and east. As the desert night settles in the twinkling lights of the city below will mesmerize you.

The master bedroom is adjacent to the patio and is stylishly furnished with an oh-so-comfortable upholstered leather king-size bed. The bath is attached and has a walk-in closet and tiled shower.

The guest bedrooms each have one queen-size bed and share an adjacent full bath. The beds are all made up with high quality linens and pillows. The home accommodates a maximum of six guests.

Hand-made, Mexican clay, saltillo tiles cover the floors throughout the home. There is an additional half bath adjacent to the den. The two-car garage is attached and has direct access to the kitchen as well as a washer and dryer.

We know you will enjoy your stay at our special desert home. We have tried to think of every detail possible to make your time here comfortable and memorable.

We have owned and operated Catalina Park Inn Bed and Breakfast near the University of Arizona since 1994 so we have a long record of providing guests with a high level of hospitality.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes

Our inn is in town by the University of Arizona. We love to come up to the house when it is not rented to enjoy and escape from the city. We purchased this place with the hope of living in it full time one day.

The view is amazing and the area is very quiet. The house has a very "desert" feel to it and has an excellent layout. All our guests just love the feel of the house and often remark that they did not see as much of Tucson as they had planned as they just enjoyed hanging out and not going anywhere.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Peace and quiet. Hanging out in the big, comfortable lounge chairs and enjoying the sky and mountain views.
The house does not feel like a rental as it is so comfortably furnished and has lots of original art through the house.

A full moon rising over the Catalina Mountains is especially beautiful...

A
The Sweetwater Trail

Hike up to the top of the Tucson Mountains to Wasson Peak on this beautiful trail. The trail head parking lot is just 3.5 miles from Casa Amapola.

B
Safeway Supermarket

This newly remodeled grocery store has pretty much everything you need.

D
Albertson's Supermarket

There is an Osco Drugstore inside.

E
Blockbuster Video

This plaza is just under 5 miles from Casa Amapola.

Privatly run but open to the public. The hotel has a wonderful terrace with firepits where you can go and have drinks with a great view.

I
Gates Pass

J

A must do for anyone visiting Tucson. Flowers and fauna of the desert. An indoor/outdoor living musuem.

K
Saguaro National Monument West

Protected grove of Saguaro cactus (pronouce the G as a W and you'll sound like a native who knows...

Very good restaurant and wine store. Reservations strongly suggested. It only seats around 30.

This is downtown proper and it was at this hotel that John Dillinger was apprehended after a fire broke out in the hotel. The Cup Cafe is very good. A real "Tucson" experience.

T

Our funky "Haight-Ashbury-ish" district. Lots of ethic resturants, tatoo parlors, vintage clothing shops, bookstores, a organic market called The Food Conspiracy. There is a music and club scene, too. Lots of music at Plush Lounge.

U
The B-LIne Cafe

Casual cheap eats. We go here all the time. Great boutique beers on tap. Interesting wines too.

W
El Charro Mexican Restaurant

Been here forever. The original and best location.

X
Temple of Music and Art

Home of the Arizona Theatre Company. This is a great theatre that seats just 700 so there is not a bad seat in the house. They do about five plays and one musical each season that starts around September.

Y
Tucson Convention Center

Many music and sports events. Home of the annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.

Z
The Arizona Inn

A great old 1920's resort that used to be in the middle of the desert! A great place to go for drinks. (unfortunately the restaurant is just so-so.) Especially nice around the December Holidays as it is beautifully decorated.

We spent a week at this wonderful home, and it wasn't enough. The view from the patio was spectacular and the home delightful. It is by far the best vacation property we have ever rented. We came with another couple and they were as delighted as we were. We would love to return.

Exceeded our expectations!

Our stay at Casa Amapola exceeded our expectations in every way. The setting and views are more beautiful than the photos could possibly show. The home is furnished with beautiful, unique artwork and crafts in ever room of the home. Linens, furnishings were stylish and comfortable. Every household amenity was provided and in working order. The location was great for heading out for hiking or heading into town. The owners were attentive and flexible about accommodating an additional stay of two days when our flight was canceled. Perfect, perfect, perfect.

Fabulous Home and Location!

Date of Stay: 10/30/10 Review Submitted: 11/25/10

We enjoyed this great home for a short two weeks. The pictures don't do it justice, and Mark and Paul were great, providing local information and restaurant ideas. We were only two people, so we didn't use half the house, but the outdoor living area is the main attraction. The kitchen was well stocked, and the BBQ area great. A very comfortable place to live, very private ( except for the hot air balloon suddenly appearing overhead), with great grounds where you have your own private desert garden. The location is perfect as there is easy access to everything because you are so close to the I-10 without the noise, in a quiet neighbourhood. The view is fabulous and sunrise over the mountains spectacular! We could easily live here for the winter (would have to heat the pool in the winter though)! We booked a larger house than we needed in order to scope it out for a future visit with family. We will definitely be booking again! Thank you so much Mark and Paul!

Amazing View

Guest: Mike (Massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 10/23/10 Review Submitted: 11/15/10

I spent a week at Casa Amapola but could easily have moved right in. The home enjoys a beautiful setting in a quiet neighborhood, and the grounds resemble a miniature botanical garden being nicely landscaped with a variety of desert plants. The home is clean and provided with all the amenities, but nothing can beat the outstanding view from the outside living room and pool area. Watching the full moon rise over the Santa Catalinas was the perfect way to end each day of hiking. There’s plenty to do in the Tucson area, including hiking in the immediate neighborhood, and the house was well-stocked with information regarding attractions and nearby sites. Mark and Paul were perfect hosts, both gracious and informative, and they made the rental process extremely easy and hassle-free. I’d happily recommend Casa Amapola to others and look forward to staying again.

From Trip Advisor: Mark and Paul were perfect hosts and their home was warm and inviting and a pleasure to be in for the two months we were there. We especially loved the patio and pool area and the killer view of Tucson. Mark and Paul were ery gracious and quick to respond when we had any questions or needed a visit from them. We would definitely rent from them again. Five stars!!!!

A great vacation home!

Guest: Firefighter Pete (Madison, Wisconsin)
Date of Stay: 02/03/07 Review Submitted: 04/13/10

After a few days at Casa Amapola, you'll want to own it -- the house is that nice. We spent most of our time outside -- which is where we ate all of our meals. We watched the sunrises, the hot air balloons, the rain as it crossed the city (yes, we were lucky enough to be there during a thunderstorm), and the glow on the mountains at sunset. The neighborhood is quiet and the house is quite private. We did not bother to heat the pool -- it was not so cold after all -- and really enjoyed the spa. The kitchen is well-equipped. The house is nicer than the photos show it to be. This would be our first choice on any return trip to Tucson.

We loved our stay at Casa Amapola. The pool and hot tub were wonderful, and the outdoor patio (lanai) was huge and very comfortable with a great view. One of the highlights was watching the sunrise over the desert and the distant mountains. The villa was beautifully decorated and everything we needed was to hand. The location was excellent, very private on the edge of the desert, but still convenient for local shops and downtown Tucson. We would love to stay there again, and thoroughly recommend it to anyone. The owner was very friendly, accessible and approachable at all times. Many thanks Mark!

Hi Mark, just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Casa Amapola. The house and setting easily met and exceeded all of our expectations. The "outside room" was fabulous and where we spent almost all of our time. We really enjoyed the Tucson area and played some great golf courses. We do hope to return again in the future and would love a second visit to Casa Amapola. Mike, Guelph, ON

From our Guest Book: Casa Amapola has a most wondrous effect on all who are fortunate to come upon it; of this I have no doubt. This is my sixth Gem Show pilgrimage in seven years and our stay at your magical home was by far the best! We lacked for nothing and found ourselves surrounded in the utmost casual luxury. There is much love, peace and joy in the stories Casa Amapola tells.
