You are never ABSOLUTELY sure what you will find when plucking a holiday using the internet despite the glowing reviews for Le Ferm de La Tour. But what a gem! My wife and I occupied Le Fournil, the smallest of the possible accomodations and loved it from the word go. Perfect for 2 people, facing south and overlooking the rolling Perigaux landscape, Le Ferm de La Tour offers the option to 'chill out' at the swimming pool or to provide a base to expolore the wonderful Dordogne landscape, Chris and Kate were charming hosts helping us to find that little something extra that makes a holiday memorable. Recommend a visit? Absolutely with no reservations

My fiance and I were hoping to find a place of peace and tranquility and were not disappointed upon arriving at La Ferme de La Tour. Off the beaten track, but not too far from the neighbouring village of Saint Nathalene, you are greeted with breathtaking views and a holiday property to match. La Fournil is atmospheric and cosy - just what we were hoping for. Whilst tastefully and lovingly restored to capture the Southern French rural idyll, it also has added luxuries, such as the washing machine which can come in handy. We spent many days relaxing by the pool, admiring the views and enjoying the sunshine. For those wanting more 'sight-seeing' there is plenty in the local vicinity. We enjoyed days out exploring Sarlat and the local night-market is a must for those who enjoy sampling the local food as much as we do! Chris and Kate were always there to offer advice and help. Chris provides a fantastic open-top taxi service should you wish to travel into Sarlat or a local village and not have your own vehicle. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending Le Fournil at La Ferme de La Tour and certainly hope to return...

This is an idyllic spot in the "Black Perigord" perfect to unwind and start to enjoy your free time. We had a brilliant week at La Ferme de la Tour, mixing visits to nearby towns and villages in the mornings with afternoons at the pool in the garden of La Ferme, cooling down in the warm French sunshine. The garden and pool areas were beautifully kept and the proprietor even provided food for the birds so that we could enjoy them at close proximity. The gardens are full of birds and butterflies - enchanting. Don't miss a trip to the beautiful Jardin d' Erignac just a few kilometers away. A wonderful French lunch is to be had at a little village restaurant in St. Crepin called "L'eau a la bouche", this was one of the highlights of our French holiday this year. All in all, La Ferm de La Tour is a lovely place to visit and warmly recommended.

Had a great week here - the best thing is the absolutely amazing views. Haven't stayed anywhere else in the Dordogne that has such great ones as this place. There's easy access to lots of places to visit. We're very lazy on hols and tend to spend a lot of time relaxing so maybe a large chair or really small second sofa could be squeezed in, but understand most people will be out and about more. Washing machine was a luxury - shame weather turned so we still came home with dirty washing!

La Ferme de la Tour, with its beautifully restored cottages, is an ideal location for exploring one of the most beautiful regions in France: le Perigord Noir. Fantastic scenery, great food, medieval towns, historical roots going back to 20,000 years ago (visit the caves). A must for every one who loves France. Only 10 min by car from the major centre, Sarlat, full of restaurants and with a typical market on Saturday and Wednesday, but also with modern supermarkets like Carrefour etc.. Lots of little medieval towns to visit, but you need a good satnav to drive around. Le Fournil is the smallest cottage, just perfect for two. It is as beautiful & quaint as you can see on the pictures. Sympathetically & lovingly restored by Chris ( the owner ) who told us that this had been his best project. It was a joy to stay in what once had been an old bakery, so for those lovers of old historical buildings this is a must, lay back and imagine the smell of fresh bread!! (buy the typical loaf: the tourte) As dog lovers it was a treat to be greeted every day by little Miss Toffee, who is the most adorable gentle dog. Just like the farmhouse she is full of her own character and charm. I'm still laughing at her summer haircut, again hand crafted by Chris, I'd say I dont see a future career in dog grooming?! The grounds are well kept, which is a welcomed walk to burn off the foie gras and delicious cheeses that we ate on the terrace overlooking those stunning views. If you find some branches on your patio table dont be suspicious, its a gift from Chris of fresh cherries from his tree's which he allows you to eat, great fun to pick your own. It's bliss to wake up in the morning by the songs of the many different birds in the garden. Kate & Chris were, as everyone commented, perfect hosts & certainly never intrusive, but were always there to answer our endless questions of places to visit. This holiday stay makes you feel what it is "to live and be happy like God in France" but impossible to see and enjoy it all in only one week, come back or stay longer.

Honeymoon couple – My (now) wife and I were looking for a quiet, peaceful, pleasant week away after an unforgettable, but tiring wedding. We got so much more! Unfortunately due to our arrival day/time, we were only able to enjoy Le Fournil for 5 nights. Chris had kindly left the lights on in the cottage for our 3am arrival, although my sat-nav got us 99% of the way there, the excellent directions Chris sent over in advance of our holiday concluded the final leg of our drive from Bordeaux airport (make sure you print these direction Chris sends you). Although the weather wasn’t at its best during our stay, the peaceful surroundings, views, clean, warm and well equipped cottage more than made up for it. It’s location is perfect and within a short drive from what seem to be the most beautiful parts of the Dordogne. Chris gave us some great places to visit as we’d been a little unprepared. The views are outstanding and although we didn’t use the pool, it looked very inviting. Both Chris and Kate were very welcoming and as I’ve mentioned gave us some great tips. Like the other reviews you come across, we couldn’t find any fault with our stay. We will not only be recommending, but retuning in the future (hopefully the weather will be slightly better).

The property is in a rural setting with stunning countryside views from the patio. Nonetheless is vey centrally located for exploring the area which is well blessed with more attractions - visits to gardens, cave dwellings, castles, chateaux, canoing and afternoon tea- than I could fit in during my two weeks. The cottage was very clean and well equiped. Chris and Kate were helpful and informative without beinng intrusive. The weather was fabulous and so the pool was a welcome bonus! Will go again.

Le Fournil is a beautifully presented Gite, lovingly restored by the current owners. It's ideal for a couple; clean, comfortable and private. The galleried bedroom gives a lovely view over the lounge below. The kitchen is smart and has everything you need for self catering. The grounds are beautiful and provide a swimming pool (a bit too cold in April), trampoline, table tennis table and other outdoor/sports activities. Although the accommodation is a little off the beaten track, that's part of its appeal and a 15min drive brings you to Sarlat and a further 10mins down to the River Dordogne. An excellent base for exploring the area, canoing, visiting the many historical sites or simply relaxing in a cafe. Overall, we couldn't fault our experience at Le Fournil. Chris and Kate are fantastic hosts; friendly and full of local knowledge. Will certainly be recommending La Ferme de la Tour to friends.

We stayed in the very well equipped Le Fournil for a week in August. The setting is tranquil yet within easy reach of Sarlat and other attractions of the Dordogne region. Although the weather was mixed which is unusual for this time of year we enjoyed our holiday and managed to swim, play table tennis and even trampoline in the garden! There are plenty of walks in the area and some attractive gardens nearby. Le Fournil is a great get away for 2 people and you quite often have the pool to yourselves during the day. We were fine with the internal stairs but they are quite steep if you are less mobile. Would definitely recommend to others.

Le Fournil was perfect for a base to explore Sarlat and the surrounding area. There were no amenities within walking distance although Chris provides a great Taxi service should you like a glass of wine (or two!) on a night out. The accomodation and swimming pool were both clean and well maintained. The view from the terrace was fantastic and the Gite had been renovated to retain lots of its original character. We would be happy to go back again

About the owner: We are an average family of four that originate from the village of Wroxham in Norfolk in the east of England. Why did we move to France ? Why not...... We are, or should I say were, the same as most working families in the western world, devoted parents, but having to give ourselves and far too much time to careers which involve long hours and stress. So we looked for an alternative and France seemed like the right choice. The choice provided us with more stress and longer hours than you can imagine and for the first three or four years it was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. However we are now reaping the benefits and enjoying our new life to the full, in one of the most beautiful areas we could have dreamed of living.

                              Why the Owner Chose Sarlat-la-Canéda:
We moved lock stock and barrel to the Sarlat area in 2004, buying a set of empty farm buildings that needed far too much work. But the position and the views had us hooked and nothing came anywhere near a close second. So here we are eight years on and the renovation complete, but not without some real highs and lows and a vast collection of stories and experiences.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The position is magical and just not possible to capture in a picture. We have been extremely lucky to find a property with such a formula of character, views and location. We are close to Sarlat, which is the jewel of the Dordogne, yet in a truly rural setting in stunning countryside.
