Great place to stay, even in the off-season

Guest: Two Brooklyn Dads (Brooklyn, NY)
Date of Stay: 04/07/12 Review Submitted: 04/15/12

We stayed at this property after all the ski slopes had closed for the Winter season and before any of the summer attractions (of which there seem to be plenty) had opened. In short, nearly everything was closed. There were no leaves on the non-evergreen trees and it was mostly cloudy, cold, and kind of rainy all week. You would think we would have had a bad experience. To the contrary, we had a great experience. We were looking for a quiet, low-key, time-away-from-home vacation in a beautiful, peaceful setting. And we got exactly that. The house had everything we needed, including a well-equipped kitchen. The beds were quite comfortable to sleep in and the couches and chairs were also very comfortable. Our six year-old daughter could have spent hours just throwing rocks into the water in the back. In fact, we had to put a limit on that activity so she wouldn't deplete the yard of rocks, making point of bringing rocks back from our hikes instead. There's a very nice grocery store in Center Harbor, where we were able to get everything we needed. It was great to be able to bring our dog with us, which made it that much more of a family vacation. Locally, we did a couple of drives and went up into the White Mountains and hiked a few of the trails. Going up to Diana's Baths waterfall was a highlight. We saw a moose on the side of the road on Hwy. 113A. Wednesday morning we looked out the back windows and saw three otters playing in the water in the channel between the house and Gansy Island. We watched as they got out of the water, ran around in the leaves and jumped back into the water again. It was great. Knowing all of the activities available in the area in the summer, I can't wait to come back next year for a more active, fun-filled summer vacation.

The View

My family and friend's families stayed for several days during New Years. The place is great however I must say the sun room was our personal favorite. Early mornings we enjoyed breakfasts here and sipped coffee while looking out into the lake. There is a fireplace which made the whole experience cozy and rustic. There is a island just across the channel which was just beautiful. Although it was cold, being in here in winter, stepping outside and standing on the docks stargazing and enjoying the scenery of the lake was simply amazing. I would imagine that spring, summer and fall would be best to enjoy the outdoor grill, the kayaking and swimming that this place offers. There are many rooms to house many guests. The kitchen is large, enough to handle 'many cooks in the kitchen.' The bedrooms are cute and clean. The large room upstairs in the back was very nice. It has all the amenities and there wasn't anything else that we needed. Everything was clean and it was stocked well. I am a fisherman, so this place was perfect for fishing. However, since we had a warm December, Lake Winnie was not iced over yet. I was told by AJ's Bait and Tackle in Meredith, (The best tackle store ever) that Lee's Pond nearby which was smaller, was iced. Crappie fishing was the name of the game. Mirror Lake, also close by, had lots of trout and was partially iced, was another great place to fish. I can't wait for Lake Winnie to be fully iced or come back in soft water season. The little convenience store/gas station close by, Skelley's Market was a hoot. They had a deli, hot foods like chicken wings, cool knick-knacks and a good meat selection. If you need something larger, there is a Hannaford 30 minutes away. The Gansy house was fun, easily to navigate to, and the area of Lake Winnie is breath-taking. If you like to grill outdoors, enjoy water activities, fish, and just be inside by the fireplace and be cozy, this place is it.

Everything we needed

This was our first stay at Gazy Lane and we will defnately be back. We have been renting in the region every fall for over 15 years and change rentals as our needs change. This had everything we needed and then some. The owners, Roger and Claire, are extremely thorough and remind you that if you do your part then the property will be enjoyable for everyone. We loved the fact that we could bring our well behaved pet. Our favorite part is having the boats on site. No need to rent kayaks and try to get them to the property. We'll be back.

Beautiful location and a nice place too!

The property is "away from it all" and private. The location on the lake is fantastic and beautiful. The house is clean and well maintained. The owners are easy to work with and very professional. We rented the additional room over the garage for the teens and it was good for them and better for the adults. Wireless internet throughout the entire house, multiple TVs, well stocked kitchen, and great extras. Pay not attention to the angy review from last year. I have no idea what their issue was. The house is clean but not a fancy estate. Great for adults, teens and others who want a great time on the lake without malls and other distractions.

Nice place on the lake

We rented this home the last week of August 2009. Overall the house is very nice and comfortable but not fancy. The owner allows dogs, which for us, was very important. We spent the week with various friends and family and found the house big enough to provide privacy if desired. The washer / dryer, two baths, three TVs and wireless internet were a nice bonus. The dock was big enough for our 20' walkaround with ample water depth. The launching ramp is minutes away, as was the marina for gas. The location is beautiful and private. We spent most of the week on the dock or on one of the boats. The owners are fair, easy to work with and very professional.

Summer fishing trip 2009

Guest: Mark AKA (Haydenville MA)
Date of Stay: 07/18/09 Review Submitted: 01/25/10

I spent an entire week here last year with all my uncles and cousins. We have been going on an annual fishing trip for the last 18 years and I would have to say that this is the worst place we ever stayed in. The place was a dump. It was NOT clean, the refridgerator was filled with condiments that the owner says leave for the next guests. Would you eat condiments and things from the fridge if you didn't buy them or know personally how long they have been in there? We didn't, especially due to the fact that half of the stuff was covered with mold. After 4 days almost everyone left to go home early because the place was soooo nasty. Oh and speaking of mold, the disgusting shower had so much mold in it that after everyone left and my wife and kids came up, my wife refused to step foot in the bathroom She would only use the other one down the hall, which by the way needed upgrading badly. I will NEVER go back here, EVER!!! The amount of money that we dished out to stay in this flea ridden place was a shame. Oh, did I forget to mention that my cousin got bitten up all night from the fleas in the couch!! Ya it was a great vacation, can't wait to get back and sleep in a dirty house with fleas. I plugged a night light in in the kitchen and blue sparks shot out and after that no plugs on that half of the kitchen worked. Please, DO NOT take your family here.

Owner response:Lease rules and guidelines specifically discuss issues related to the house during a tenant's stay. These guidelines are very clear on what is expected of the guests during their occupancy and what to do if they have a concern. These clearly were not followed. Condiments are bought by renters and left for future renters to use. All condiments are removed and thrown out at the beginning of the rental season in June, and again in October. Whatever they found, was purchased within the month. Perhaps the excessive humidity in the refrigerator, which was present in July and repaired in August, contributed to the problem. The cleaning service spends time each Saturday cleaning the house and scrubbing the bathrooms prior to the next arrivals. They take pride in doing a good job. It is hard for me to believe there was mold anywhere. We allow pets, and everyone brings them, so if someone got bit by fleas, its because their pet or a previous tenant brought them into the house (which no one ever reported ever and never found by the cleaning service). If an outlet shorts out from a bad night light, it will blow the circuit and you have to determine where the breakers are to reset them. We try and pre-screen our tenants and cater to families with children. We do not rent to people who are not family related. We do rent to fishing parties. I have three different groups that have been coming back for several years. They know what to expect, follow the guidelines, and love all the amenities that go with the property. No one ever complains about it being not clean. If they do, we always find that it is even worse after they leave (they say they really cleaned it). Some people are never happy. We maintain a 70% return renters, give early booking discounts, previous tenant discounts, early check-ins, and extended stays at no additional cost. Read some of the other comments, and you will see that almost everyone loves the location, the amenities of the house, and vacationing with their pet along. We've even been know to refund some money for an inconvenience that might have happened during your stay. What Realtor ever did that? References are available upon request. We welcome comments, and always strive to continue to improve the property from one year to the next. Sometimes it takes seven or eight months to find out why someone wasn't happy. Most of the time when you experience it yourself, you wonder "Did they go to the same place?" Come and find out.

We had 6 adults, two teenagers and two younger children and this place was large enough to accommodate us all. We even had a dog and we were able to let her loose without worry. It was very clean and had all the equipment you would find in a nice home any where. Two full baths and two kitchens made this rental a real find. We are hoping all works out with our family for a repeat visit next year.

Summer 2008

Date of Stay: 07/12/08 Review Submitted: 07/29/08

This property was very well equipped. Not having to bring linens was a real plus. Also, with 4 kids, having a washer and dryer was terrific. Fishing was good.....we had a couple of fish fries while we were here. Also saw the bears of Gansy Island. One swam across while we were sitting in the sunroom! Being able to bring our 4 legged family member was also so nice......I think he enjoyed swimming more than the kids! The only tough thing was this property is truly away from it all. It was quite a drive to the grocery store or other "touristy" things. Luckily, the weather was great and we were primarily there to relax and have fun.

Pleasant get-away and unexpected excitement!

Date of Stay: 09/01/07 Review Submitted: 12/22/07

The place was exactly as described and the weather was nearly perfect throughout the week. Clean, comfortable and cheery, we settled down within hours - there was plenty of space. Our cove location kept lake noise to a minimum. It was a pleasant week relaxing - I used the canoe and rowboat. My wife particularly enjoyed the view and we didn't have to miss the Internet or cable tv because these amenities were there! We did encounter a problem with a dying refrigerator but the owner arranged for a new one to be delivered immediately, after the local manager confirmed that the "frig was gone." The excitement occurred mid-week when a mother black bear and her three cubs strolled down to the lake within 20 feet of our place for a quick frolic in the water. We look forward to going back again in 2008. Without another refrigerator incident, we anticipate an excellent experience.

We were so looking forward to our stay at this cottage. Our impression when we first walked in was "WOW" it needed an update badly. My daughter and I had to clean the kitchen counter tops, wash bed spreads, vacuum the rugs and wash the floors and clean the bathrooms and the washing maching is like 30 years old and dirty. It wasnt filthy, but it wasnt the cleanest either. I was also told by the owner if we needed to use the "loft" for extra guests to call the care taker to come out and he would unlock it. There was also an empty propane tank in the grill so we had to go get some. not an easy place to get food around, the nearest grocery store is 20 minutes away and very expensive. we had to leave the place spotless and recycle was to be put out in separate bins, rinsed out and no caps or you would lose some of your security deposit and all trash had to be put out in a locked shed so no animals would get it, which was fine because we had a mother bear and her 2 cubs living right across the lake on the island. The best part was the view. I think thats what you pay for. right on the lake and the bears made it great. I would have to say we will never stay here again, because after all the cleaning I did, the owner never offered to take any price off, and was going to charge me for the caretaker coming out to unlock the loft which we never used because it was filthy and under construction. It was my family and our visitors that made it fun...

Arrived in dark, but no problem thanks to excellent directions. Suppose to rain al day Sunday, but even that cleared up--Bonus. Great weather, great place. Found that you need about a month to see/do everything in area. Must See--MT. Washington. At bottom they said it was about 35 degrees and 30mph winds at top, clouds in and out. We drove to top, got out, took a picture in parking lot which was bright and clear. We went inside to see about a snack, and came out about 12 minutes later. It was so thickly clouded over that we couln't see the parking lot from the building! Winds were ripping and it started to snow! We were completely caught off guard and only had sweatshirts on. It was about 62 here at house. Hate to leave. We'll be back.

Your Lake Winnipesaukee home provides a tranquil retreat with chipmunks rustlin in leaves & the float-by of a solidary loon. A cozy cabin feel, yet room for friends & family to gather for a November boat ride. Craft shopping, great relaxing, & also dining out in uniquely NH restaurants. We had a lovely weekend.

The rowboat and canoe were fun. It gave us a chance to out-maneuver the warring neighbors. The reception was so clear on the TV's that we didn't want to go back to our Boston commercial ghetto-loft. And that first aid kit came in handy.

The scene from dock is beautiful. Rowed around the island, quick swims, grueling hike along the Pekeival Trail and the train ride up Mt. Washington were the highlights of this trip. The Corner House was an incredible place to eat with excellent beer choices and delicious crab cakes.
