TAMARACK LAKE ESTATE is really more like a resort than a house, you get so much provided for your vacation. Most people come to Cape Cod to gaze at the ocean. But what if you could be at the ocean beach for hours on end, and two minutes later go home to a luxurious lakefront estate a few blocks away? Imagine the enjoyment of having the best of both worlds -- the sandy beaches of Cape Cod Bay and the sparkling clear waters of a spring-fed 376-acre glacial "pond." (One guest described it as a Lake Tahoe/Cape Cod vacation.) In this amazing spot, you'll have privacy, recreation, and comfort in a setting graced with sparkling waters, towering pines, brick paths and patios, decks, private sandy beach, dock, and boathouse -- even before you encounter the incomparable home itself.
The home is VERY well provisioned, with nice linens, top of the line appliances , cookware, spices, condiments, baking needs, soaps, paper goods, laundry supplies, Tamarack has wireless Internet, digital cable TV, an extra wet-bar kitchen to serve the Great Room, kayaks, canoe, swim platform, dock, boathouse with bunk beds, water toys, life jackets, – private waterfront beach and fire pit, Great Room patio also has a fire pit, there is a barbeque patio, picnic area.
... it has:
-waterfront KING bdrm (made of 2 singles) with added single
-waterfribt QUEEN bdrm with luxury bathroom
-waterfront 2 DOUBLE beds bdrm
-parkside small bdrm with KING bed (made up of 2 singles)
-main floor bdrm QUEEN bedroom on the first floor
-loft with SINGLE bed over part of Great Room /could have 3-4 sleeping bags on padded, carpeted floor
- bunks in boathouse at water's edge (made up by special arrangement, no plumbing at water's edge)
Tamarack has a beautiful gathering room, tastefully decorated in restrained Nantucket style, a place to converse or watch TV. From here, enter the sleek mini-kitchen outside the Great Room. The Great Room, added to the house in the '90s, has a 22-foot stone fireplace, sit-upon hearth, plank floors, soaring ceilings and a expansive glazed-brick veranda where Adirondack chairs line up to take in the water view. This magnificent room is divided into areas: a banquet table, a writing area, two sitting areas with off-white couches, a British West Indies armoire housing the TV, and 1830s mahogany horseshoe counter for laying out a buffet, or locating your laptops *WiFi throughout.
You may feel inspired to write your memoirs here under the watchful eye of the Sable Antelope on the fireplace. Ship stairs lead to a carpeted loft overlooking the gigantic room. A wall of sliders open to the large brick patio, offering a flow and ease of indoor-outdoor living, with mature estate plantings and towering pines.
The fantastic main kitchen has a vaulted beamed ceiling with six skylights and excellent task lighting for cooking. Wood floors, mahogany countertops, and top quality appliances make this two-sink, two-dishwasher, three-oven, bountifully-stocked and meticulous kitchen a place to spend all your time. The chefs will appreciate our Thermador ProHarmony gourmet gas range with Faber pro hood, Miele MasterChef double convection oven, Sub Zero glass door refrigerator. Miele and Bosch dishwashers make cleaning-up painless. You may want to spend your entire time in the kitchen. Step out the French doors into the sunny courtyard to snip some herbs or turn right to go to the brick barbeque patio with its Weber gas grill and stress-removing lake view.
The bedrooms are pleasant and thoughtfully decorated. They are appointed as follows: (upstairs) master suite = lake view, queen bed and luxurious bathroom. Middle bedroom = lake view, 2 full-sized beds with antique cannonball headboards. 3rd bedroom= lake view, 4 twin beds (think cousins spending the summer together). 4th bedroom=courtyard side, two single beds. Main floor bedroom (just off the Gathering Room and mini-kitchen/wet bar) queen bed and adjacent bathroom (grab bar installed in tub wall.)
Tamarack has a private boat dock with jet ski ramp, a sandy beach, a boathouse with a bunk bed and all-glass boathouse doors, with the lake lapping at the edge of the boathouse -- an exciting location in itself. Kayaks, a canoe, floats, and water toys are supplied.
For those considering accessibility in case a dear one isn't as mobile as in the past, most of the home's features are at-grade. The slope down to the water is an easy stroll and there is a secondary driveway down by the dock that enables access by car.
The circular driveway allows multiple vehicles to navigate through the park-like setting, and there is space for an event tent and caterers' vans. (On a case-by-case basis, we will consider very small weddings, most neighbors aren't keen on weddings.)
Personal checks or rental fees, credit card used for damage deposit.
Please see our other listings if Tamarack is already taken.

Luxury Waterfront Lake Estate- Cape Cod / Plymouth Destination
Why the Owner Chose Sagamore Beach
We never considered Tamarack Lake Estate as a vacation home when we purchased it. The then-current owners had a special needs child for whom they needed to build a custom-designed home for his future, and they asked us if we would consider buying Tamarack. The house needed a lot of work, but the grounds were spectacular. The mature conifer gardens, the park-like setting, acres of lawn and trees, incredible views and sparkling sunsets over the "pond." It took us three years of living in Tamarack Lake Estate to figure out how to fix what needed fixing, and making sense of its rambling and disjointed floor plan. Alas, we had to live through the construction, which is never fun. But now, all its original positive qualities shine, and what wasn't quite right has been resolved. It is a really incredible home (now) and we are awed by the beauty and tranquility of the place.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate
The kitchen is a destination in itself. But then there is the great room, as big as some folks' homes. But then, there is the private beach, the boathouse, the dock with jet-ski ramp, a swim platform in the lake, the glazed brick great room patio with its row of adirondaks lined up to take in the view. It is like getting an entire resort at the price of a summer home.

Owner's Map of Sagamore Beach
To me, creating the perfect waterfront getaway home is an art form. My lifelong career had been in designing publications, and later creating magazine illustrations and painting expressionistic works on canvas. When I first decided to rent my weekend home so I could renovate an incredible but dilapidated cottage (which became, at great expense, "Timberframe Cottage") I did not know this would become my work and my passion. Working in 2d was fun and rewarding, but my new ART is creating vacation homes that themselves are 'works of art.' My goal with my homes, as with my art before, is to create a setting that exceeds your expectations, and in turn, your patronage lets me continue my art form a few more years. Please read the guest comments to see the generous and enthusiastic compliments we've received. Finding just the right furnishings, using classic Nantucket decor, using materials such as massive beams, barnwood ceilings, wide pine floors, RL sheets, antique cabinets, and creating gardens overflowing with roses and peonies, clematis, daylilies, gigantic buried stepping stones, blueberries, raspberries, foxgloves (can you tell it is June as I write this?) expanses of mahogany countertop, fine appliances, stone fireplaces, stained glass, with views that will take your breath away. Please look at "all my rental listings" to see my portfolio art in the form of unique and extravagant vacation getaways. It is a labor of love... for you.

We walked through the door hoping for the best...at least as good as the pictures, but found it even better. Our family from as faraway as California & Missouri spent the Thanksgiving week at TLE, and it worked beautifully. Close to Plymouth (we had Thanksgiving dinner at Plimoth Plantation), Cape Cod, Marthas' Vineyard and more. The weather was perfect, allowing for some kayaking, and walks. Some pictures do not do it justice. The 'gathering room' is far more cozy than it appears, and the downstairs bedroom is a charm. It was a special Holiday. Thank you Robin, Barbara

I have to tell you how much our family enjoyed your beautiful home at Tamarack. I miss it already. We could not have been more comfortable. As family members gathered they all raved about the accommodations and the setting. Sometimes it can be difficult to share a house with different generations, but not at Tamarack. The home is so spacious, with so many sitting areas inside and out, that everyone was able to relax and truly enjoy their time. When we wanted to gather together, the great room and the deck were perfect. We had wonderful days at the beach and on the lake and lovely nights by the fire-pit on the patio. The canoe and kayaks were instant fun and my 2 year old grandson enjoyed feeding the ducks. Speaking of feeding… feeding the people could have been quite a challenge, but your spacious and well-equipped kitchen made food prep and clean-up a snap. The stove was a big hit with everyone and I also really appreciated all the sinks and dishwashers. We were so fortunate that the weather cleared on Saturday for our event. The setting was perfect. We were able to set our table for 30 on the deck. (We used vintage napkins and family owned unique tea cups for the chowder!) There was plenty of room and it was so intimate and special. The caterers you suggested prepared a wonderful dinner for us and as dusk turned to evening we dined to the soft sounds of 40’s French jazz. A perfect family celebration! Thank you,

The house is even better than the pictures. A perfect place to spend time with family. Enough room for everyone to be together *or* be by themselves when they need to be. We loved kayaking and canoeing, and hanging around the docks enjoying the wonderful early September weather. We had a great time cooking dinners for the family and enjoying them in the great room. Surf (from a local fish market) and Turf grilled on the fantastic Weber with fine wine and great conversation. Wonderful fires in the patio area with smores for all! The first 'full' family vacation in over 20 years - we had three generations and had a wonderful time. Would love to return.

Tamarack Lake Estate Is Even Better Than We Expected

Our party of ten included all ages...toddler, teen-agers, parents, and grandparents. Tamarack Lake Estate suited us perfectly as a base for our week long vacation on Cape Cod. Even though we spent time away from our "base", we all looked forward to our return to the luxurious spot on Great Herring Pond. Everything you could imagine was provided for our comfort; and when a couple of mechanical issues occurred, Robin had them fixed and/or replaced the very same day. The secluded neighborhood lent itself to privacy that you never get at a resort. Groceries, drug store, liquor store were all conveniently located less than a mile away. We loved having access to Sagamore Beach and the privacy it afforded. Thank you Robin and John for providing such a perfect vacation spot for our first Cape experience. We will definitely recommend and return.

(from a lovely note Lori sent after her family's stay) "Thank you for opening your Tamarack Lake Estate to my family for our vacation getaway. We were amazed throughout our stay...what beautiful decor and magnificent views! All the windows and mirrors make it so bright and inviting. We felt the warmth at night with all the special lighting and the glow from the stone fireplace (great for making smores) to the gas stove in the kitchen. We loved your kitchen...with the stainless steel appliances and neat gadgets. We even loved your natural Caldrea cleaners that smell so good! I am already missing your soaking tub and comfy bed. I could live very happily with just your kitchen and master bed-bathroom. Your property suited us all – my elderly parents having a bed+bathroom on the main floor, my husband having the lake to explore in your canoe, my teenager having wireless Internet, my younger daughter having so much area to play inside and out. My Dad and I enjoyed your books and my 10 year old enjoyed your lemon wedge ice cube tray. You have motivated me to update my bedroom, bathroom + kitchen - it may take me the next 20 years, but it is a start. I appreciated being able to see (House by the Sea), my daughter loved your tree swing. I got great photos - what a breathtaking view! We got a count (at House by the Sea) of 124 steps down to beach. We found a great horse farm - Mare Willow who offers reasonable and fun lessons. Thank you for your kindness, generosity and patience - Lori

A nice (and affordable) house on Cape Cod, big enough to accommodate the 10 of us – that was what we were LOOKING for… A spacious and fully equipped kitchen to prepare one of our famously lavish dinners and maybe a nice little terrace where we could spend a quiet evening together – that was what we were HOPING for…. An unpleasant surprise here or there was what we were AFRAID OF before we finally got there… BUT: A perfect weekend in the most wonderful lakeside home is what we GOT – complete with all the space we needed, cozy bedrooms, a perfectly equipped kitchen, fire places, a beautiful deck, direct access to the lake and nothing but pleasant surprises…! Staying at Tamarack Lake Estate was a weekend in heaven and we will definitely come back! The Team of the Austrian Trade Commission NY

(From an email received a week after their stay) "We wanted to send you a note to thank you for our wonderful stay at your gorgeous house. It is truly spectacular in every aspect, location, furnishings, layout, and décor. Everyone in our family was very happy with the accommodations, and it was especially helpful for our mother—who has difficulty climbing stairs—to be able to access everything she needed on the first floor. We particularly enjoyed your incredibly comprehensive kitchen facilities and the spacious, welcoming great room. It made us want to have all future family gatherings in that space, since it worked so well for us! Even though the weather was less-than-perfect, we quickly made ourselves at home and probably spent more time together—playing cards, board games, doing puzzles, and chatting—than we ever would have otherwise. Those are memories we will always cherish. Once the weather finally got better, we had great fun sunning and kayaking on the lake, going to the local beaches, and toasting marshmallows in the evening breeze overlooking the star-lit lake. I have no doubt that we will return to your home sometime in the future. My family and I are already looking forward to it!

(from an email received 8/30 during her stay) Dear Robin, We feel like we’ve stumbled on a secret piece of heaven. TLE is even better than advertised, and we are enjoying the hell out of it!!! From young (2-yr-old granddaughter) to old (87-yr-old-but-spry great-grandmother), your beautiful home gets two thumbs up (and if we had more thumbs, they’d ALL be up). Tonight we had a grand feast of grilled lobster and steamed mussels (from Wood’s, in Plymouth). Best lobster I’ve ever had. My chef son-in-law did the mussels with curry, chili powder, lime juice, garlic, cumin. Huge success. When you said “fully equipped”, I had no idea how fully equipped you meant, and not just “fully”, but “well." We’ve been making jokes, actually, when we can’t find something that we need, like, oh, say, granulated sugar for coffee, that it’s not possible that Robin would NOT have granulated sugar. (And then we find the sugar packets in the tea drawer, and smack our heads, and say, well, of course, a bag of sugar would get chunky… this is so much better!) My daughter said it best…your attention to detail is evident in this wonderful house. My daughter said it best…”I felt at home, and cozy, right away”. We are already quite sure that we must come back next summer (and have fantasies of doing Christmas here). Thank you so much. Ocean beach... I don’t feel like budging from here, but some might (directions?) Your new best friend, ----- Jill

(from an email dated 7/20/2010) Dear Robin: Our family had a wonderful time at your home. My family has unequivocally let me know that they would like us back at Tamarack Estate next year. I was told: the views are amazing; the space is wonderful; the house is so quiet even if full; the kitchen is the perfect size for us; the dock is great; the canoes were fun; the wind by the pond was perfect; the beds were comfortable ... and it was closer to Boston than the other two places we've stayed since 2008. We just wanted to send a note indicating our appreciation. Your home made this an amazing time for our family. Debbi
