  Our family had a very casual, relaxing and fun week staying at Sun-Mar in Fort Myers Beach. While our overall experience was positive, I'd like call out both those things that made it so AND the things that could be improved: Positives: 1. GREAT location. On the south end of the island, which is quieter than the north, but close enough to drop in. Near Sanibel, Captiva and Lovers Key State Park for day trips and outings. A well positioned jumping off point. 2. Pool. Having our own, private pool was great. The pool was also the right size for our family (with three small children) and was cleaned during our stay. 3. Beach. Crossing the tidal pool/sandbar wasn't ideal, but the beach here is really nice. Definitely quieter, great shelling, lots of room to spread out and enjoy the weather. A definite plus. Negatives: 1. This house is desperately in need of some TLC. The master bedroom mattress is horrendous, the disposal didn't work, there wasn't any extra toilet paper and just general wear and tear were all obvious signs of neglected maintenance. 2. We found that the house wasn't terribly safe for small children. There was an open light cover in the stairwell our little one quickly found, the edges of the stairs were sharp (Iots of scraped knees) and the spindles on the upstairs lanai balcony are wider apart than current code allows. We had to keep the door closed to this nice outdoor area to prevent accidental falls to the pool deck below Overall, a good week, lots of fun outdoors, but were a bit disappointed with the house itself.

• Perfect for family getaways

  We just spent 3 weeks at this beach cottage and had an amazing time. We have small grandchildren, so not having to cross a busy street to get to the beach was a huge plus. The beach is very close and a short walk through a shallow tide pool away. I learned from the gentleman who has rented the same house down the way for 24 years, that one of the owners brings sand in to make the tide pool easy access to the beach. When we first arrived the tide pool was under knee deep (I am 5'4") and by the time we left it was ankle deep. The bottom is sandy and you can see small fish and crabs as you cross. The grandchildren loved it. Would definately recommend to someone with small children or large families. Candace was only a text away and addressed all of our questions immediately. Very satisfied. Also, was a 2 minute drive away from Lover's Key State Park, the kids went kayaking and hiking.

• Plenty of Room

  Our family stayed here for a reunion week. The home was large enough to enable all three families to stay here comfortably. We found Candace so helpful answering all of our questions quickly prior to our visit. It was great to h ave our own pool. One word of caution...if you have small children it is quite a hike to get to the Gulf for time on the beach (we had to use the car to get to Gulf because the little ones couldn't make the almost mile hike) The house sits on a lagoon and during our stay it was impossible to cross the lagoon to get to the Gulf. There is a small beach on the lagoon if this is to your liking. (Check out Google Earth) Very easy and relaxing place to stay. Stocked well and well maintained.

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, girls getaway.

  Owner response: This family stayed right after our area was hit with storm Debby and the sand bar was deeper than usual. It is only a 4 minute walk from our home till your feet are in the Gulf of Mexico. You do cross the sandbar along the way. During low tide the water at the bar is about ankle deep and during high tide about knee deep. Unfortunately storm Debby flooded our sand bar during this week but this in not a common situation. Normally it is very short and easy walk to the main beach area.

  Even though the first two days had horrible weather because of Tropical Storm Debby, the rest of the week made up for it :) This was a perfect place to stay....our own pool, our own beach and a clean house! Candace was wonderful to work with also. We hope to return again next summer!

  If you are looking for tranquility and comfort this is the vacation home to rent. The house is located in a very quiet exclusive neighborhood. The house has a pool and an amazing outdoor area for BBQs,etc. My family and I had a real nice time there. A++++

  This was our first 'snowbird' trip to FMB; we rented Sun-Mar sight unseen. We stayed 3 weeks and had a great time. The house was very comfortable and ideally located to the beach. It is also close enough to walk to Lovers Key, where we rented kayaks and enjoyed the wildlife and birds. The house was quite comfortable and was well equipped with every kitchen utensil possible. We enjoyed the sunsets, the pool, friendly neighbor snowbirders and of course just walking on the beach. The house is located on the southern end of the island which we enjoyed as it is a little quieter than mid island or north island. The owner was great to work with. We had no problems at all. We even had a large white egret who showed up every morning by 7:30 and stayed the entire day and then would fly off at sunset. We can't wait to to return - thank you Candace for your accommodation.

  A wonderful vacation...we've been coming to Ft. Myers Beach for 16 years and feel that the southern end of the beach is the BEST! We enjoyed a private pool...and private beach for that matter. Friendly neighbors to watch the sunset with. The house was just right; it didn't feel too formal for a family to enjoy, yet is in good condition and updated for our standards. Close to shopping, grocery, and entertainment. We will be back.

  We just finished an idyllic 6 week vacation at this wonderful site. Location is the best as it is at the south end of the island, away from the hustle and bustle of times square. The pool area is just superb. My two grandsons 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 spent hours each day as the pool is heated. The adults sunned themselves so as to come back north to make everyone jealous with their tans. All in all a great place to relax and become a beach bum.

  We are returning to this wonderful home again this year. The house is perfect. The pool is perfect. The beach in this area is almost completely private. If you are hesitant please dont be. Couldnt ask for anything better than this. I have been on vac. to Ft. Myers my whole life as a child and adult and this is the best place I have stayed. Having your own pool is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us again this year.

  We just returned from staying at this house. we had a great time. The house had a cottage feel, not fancy, with plenty of room for the 2 families that shared it. We loved having our own pool. There is a nice view of the beach from the 2nd story balcony only, to walk to the beach you cross a sandbar with wonderful upclose views of Florida wildlife (cranes, herons etc). We would stay here again, the area is quiet but the teenagers in our family could jump on the trolley to go to the pier.
