Grand Lake cabin description
Classic 1955 Grand Lake Cabin constructed of rustic old fashioned hand-hewn logs harvested from the property. Our nostagic cabin was built on the best 5 acres of the historic 1890 Lyons Homestead, and was owned by the original family until 2004. Beautiful lake and mountain views. Located across from Shadow Mountain Lake with lake, snowmobile and fishing access across the road and 50 yards from the front door. Beautiful view of Shadow Mountain Lake out the living room and master bedroom windows.
Composite DECK on three sides with wonderful views of the lake. Vermont Castings BBQ Grill, patio heater and porch swing. Make smores or let the kids swing at our "old school" log bench camp fire area. Hike our 5 acres and watch the fox family that live on the far side of the property.
We provide only the best linens, down pillows and down comforters on all beds.
We are located only two minutes from the town of Grand Lake or Rocky Mountain National Park. Elk, moose, deer, and fox frequent our lush 5 acres. See the pictures below or on our web site of the Moose that visited us while we were building our new deck!
The small master bedroom sleeps two on a full bed. The adjacent loft area sleeps up to three on the single/full bunk bed. The interior is all natural handcrafted log with pine plank demising walls. The bathroom has a BRAND NEW slate tiled custom stand up shower with no tub. This is a beautiful old fashioned cabin in the tall pines and aspens!
Grand Lake, a historical old west town, is only about 1 mile from the cabin and is located adjacent to the largest natural lake in Colorado. Bumper boats, go-cart racing, mini golf, guided horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice fishing, shopping and dining are just a few of the things to do in Grand Lake. The Grand Lake Golf Course is challenging and is one of the most beautiful in Colorado.
In the summer, make the 35 minute trip to Winter Park and ride the highest alpine slide in Colorado. Or go the other direction into Rocky Mountain National Park and make the 48 mile drive over the highest paved road in North America (Trail Ridge Road) into Estes Park.
In the winter, enjoy snowmobiling in the self-proclaimed Snowmobile Capital of Colorado. Cross country ski, or downhill ski at the family freindly Sol Vista ski area 20 minutes from the cabin. Go a little further for the best downhill skiing in Colorado at Winter Park a short 35 minutes drive. Winter Park Sking is why we bought the cabin!
One or two well behaved housebroken dogs up to 70lbs are allowed.
No Cats Please!
Please let us know if you will be bringing your dog along at the time that the rental is booked.

What a lovely home. I rented for 4 days and 3 nights with my dogs. The kitchen is great. All modern appliances. Bathroom was great. In cold days, I would suggest propping the door open since there is not an individual heater in there. If you have a fire going, should be no problem. They do have wall heaters in living area and kitchen. Bring lots of wood. What a great fireplace though. Did not stay upstairs. I will mention that if you like to read at night, bring a book light since there are no lamps. If you have small children; just remember the stairs do not have a banister so just keep a watch on them. The house is next to the roadway so there is noise from the road. Although, I walked up into that neighborhood and could here the road noise from everywhere. Your in the mountains...everyone lives off a highway. You are not close to any neighbors which was nice. There is a grocery store in Grand Lake if you need supplies. I hope to make this a yearly retreat. It was well worth the price!! Owners had great communication throughout. Thanks so much!! Foster and Ollie thank you too!

Cabin near Grand Lake
We have stayed at several VRBO rentals, although we only gave this cabin fair review. The rental rules and regulations were rather fussy, due to the fact the lodging was a bit on the shabby side and tiny for the rental fee. On our first nite, power was lost due to high winds causing a tree to fall on our power line. Although this was not the fault of the owner; instructions or a phone number were not supplied in case of power outage. We went into town to call, and power was quickly restored. Grand Lake was lovely, and the towns people friendly. We also had to contact the owners staff to receive our deposit, 17 days after our departure.

My husband and I found your cabin just as you said! A quiet, clean ,cozy getaway! Even though there was still snow on the ground we were able to take the path to the great campfire area! It was huge with half log seats! We sat out for three hours hoping a moose would come by!! The inside was pretty and the new kitchen and bathroom striking! Nice moose antler chandelier!! The cabin was smaller than we expected but definetly a great place for a couple!!

Cozy and Historic
Cozy and Historic
This place was perfect for two men going ice fishing all weekend. The Kitchen and bathroom was updated and very nice. The place is smaller but very comfortable and cozy. Great deck and grill to enjoy views and grilling. It's close to the road but quiet, we never heard traffic. Very convenient coming and going. I would stay here again without question. For those you considering this property, you won't be disappointed.

LOVED everything about our stay!
LOVED everything about our stay!
I just wanted to thank you for the amazing time we had at the cabin! Our stay was short, but we have memories to last a lifetime... from the incredible views, to the fire pit and swing, to the calm, relaxed ambiance within, our stay at the cabin was JUST the escape we needed from our hectic schedules. The cabin was immaculate upon arrival, and the kitchen was well equipped, a rare treat...The owners were more than helpful throughout the rental process, and even suggested a few dining spots and fun stuff for the kiddos! We will definitely be staying again soon!

Perfect Family Vacation
Perfect Family Vacation
My three children and I loved this cabin! They had so much fun climbing the large boulders on the property and having our nightly campfires at the firepit that it was sometimes difficult to get them to leave so we could start our day. It was clean, comfortable and the perfect size for us. There were a number of fun games to play and DVDs to watch after we finished making s'mores at the fire. The view from the deck was spectacular and we ate every meal out there. We even had a couple of deer grazing while we ate dinner! It was only a couple minutes from Grand Lake or RMNP so it was close enough to town that we could come home for dinner and still have time to go in town for a kayak ride or wander through the many quaint shops. The best part was the privacy because we never saw anyone one else by our cabin but there were other cabins within view before we pulled in the driveway. So it felt private but not completely isolated. We loved our stay so much that even after being there for 7 nights, we still didn't want to leave. I will continue to recommend this cabin to others as it was exactly what I was looking for when I planned our trip to Colorado! We were really able to experience Colorado in all it's glory, and at a very affordable price!!! Pat was also very kind in answering my questions about the cabin and providing suggestions.

Even though the stairs are quite narrow, and the two rooms upstairs tiny, floors noisy, and some items in disrepair, this is a charming cabin. Our biggest disappointment, however, was that it advertised 'a beautiful view of Shadow Mountain lake'. This was not exactly the case. There is a very busy road 20 yards away or so, separating the cabin from the lake (HWY 34), and trees and telephone lines block most of the view. The traffic noise from the road is noticeable, and the lake is about 100-150 yards away. Also, the owner is not very responsive to questions via phone calls and emails. Lastly, it's been more than 14 days, and I haven't received my damage deposit back yet.

Cabin was filthy
Cabin was filthy
While the cabin itself was very nice, the fact that it had not been cleaned in between guests was disgusting. The following is a list of things we noticed upon arrival: 1) Dirty towels hanging in the bathroom. 2) Dirty toilet and sink. 3) Dog hair all over the living room. 4) Dirty tablecloth (crumbs all over it). 5) The beds weren't made up and had dirty sheets. This was by far the most disgusting thing. I spent the first hour of our stay cleaning up complete strangers messes. I will never rent this cabin again!

Owner response: Our cleaner broke his back and did not tell us until after this guest had left. We feel terrible and have oferred to return this guests money.
We stayed in this cabin in March 2007 for our honeymoon. It was really fantastic! So cozy and comfortable and fun. The staircase that goes upstairs is REALLY tight, but my husband managed to lug all of our luggage up there anyway. We heard coyotes howling at night and really had a wonderful time at this place. I see they have upgraded the kitchen and the shower. It looks even better now. We talk often about our "little honeymoon cabin" and how much we want to go back.

Very cute cabin - very cozy... which means it's small. It worked well for our family of 3. Very close to the water - great views! Very close to Rocky Mountain National Park and very close to the town of Grand Lake. Classy kitchen and furniture - very nice decor. Of note -the bedrooms are upstairs and the only bathroom is downstairs... very very small and tight staircase. We enjoyed our stay a lot! We would rent again!

About the owner: We are a family that loves the outdoors, skiing, diving, and boating. We have 3 kids who have grown up at this cabin and in Grand Lake.
Why the Owner Chose Grand Lake:
Our passion for skiing at Winter Park/Mary Jane led us to purchasing this home. We looked around near Winter Park but decided to purchase in Grand Lake because of the easy commute to Winter Park and all of the Summer/Winter activities in Grand Lake. Including boating and sailing at Grand Lake/Shadow Mtn. Lake and Lake Grandby. We choose this particular cabin because of the view of Shadow Mountain Lake and the size of the property 5.5 acres this close to the lake is impossible to find!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We have a great fire pit area that is located in the middle of our 5.5 acres. Which makes you feel like you are in the middle of the forest with no neighbors, even though we are only 1.1 miles from the town of Grand Lake!
