Why the Owner Chose Centro Historico
In 1993, San Miguel was poised to become the unique and worldly historical marker for artists, travelers and vacationers that it is today. Then, as now, it drew an international clientele interested in the arts; music, writing, painting, sculpture. Tres Casitas at completion, an all-inclusive home away from home with all ammenities, was then one of a handful of alternative lodgings to hotels right in the heart of San Miguel.
The Unique Benefits at this Bed & Breakfast
I notice primarily: walking everywhere; no need for the car. I love the convenience of being in the heart of town for every need; a restaurants, internet cafes, coffee shops, shopping,(the best of ALL Mexico has to offer), the Jardin and La Parroquia, Biblioteca, Belles Artes, Art Institute, language classes, Mercado, Artesans,Lloyd's or Intercam, the cambios, and so on; are ALL a few minutes walk from Tres Casitas.
Owner's Map of Centro Historico
I'm an artist who moved to San Miguel in 1992 from Tucson, Arizona. In 1994, Tres Casitas was designed and built saving partial ruins, and is home when I am in San Miguel, guest house for vacationers year round. I build with my son too, near Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Summers find me in Culver, Indiana at Lake Maxinkuckee.

We stayed at Tres Casitas a few years ago. It was just a perfect place to stay. Everything was clean and well-maintained. This location is closer to the center of San Miguel than places higher up, , and it is an easy walk to the shops and restaurants. The patios make it a very relaxing place to stay. Nancy's decorations are so "Mexico". The photos do not reflect how pretty the lights and shadows coming though the patios really are.. I sure do miss the bells of San Miguel.

We have stayed at Tres Casitas twice now and found it to be a perfect spot for a vacation. The decor including original art work is beautiful, the casitas are nicely appointed with everything that is needed, and the location is perfect We definitely plan to make this a yearly destination for us and look forward to our future stays at Tres Casitas.

We totally enjoyed our visit to Tres Casitas in SMA. The accommodations were very comfortable, very clean and beautifully decorated with an amazing collection of art and collectibles. The location is excellent and is close to the Jardin and very good restaurants and shops. We looked at many of the other B&B's and were glad we chose Tres Casitas. We hope to return for a longer visit next time.

My visit to Tres Casitas was very enjoyable. I loved all the autentic mexican decor and the open air feeling. I loved being in the center of things. We could walk to the jardin and take in all the sights. There were many good resturants within walking distance. The view from the roof was spectacular. I would recommend Tres Casitas to anyone.

In February 2010 two friends and I stayed at Tres Casitas and found it a charming and pleasant home away from home. We rented The Colonial, which was comfortable and spacious for a couple, and for the 3 of us to gather and visit, and the nearby small single bedroom (with private bath across the hall). We would stay there again, as it was quiet yet easily walkable to the central plaza. And great espresso just a block away!

This is Nanci at Tres Casitas, responding to the one negative review to date (April 19) posted from Santa Barbara guests. This refers to the winter before last when San Miguel broke record low temperatures in Jan. and Feb. and received 8 inches of rain. We were ALL, guests and residents alike, miserable and uncomfortable in SMA then. Our homes have supplementary heating of fireplaces and/or space heaters for extra chilly high desert nights and are not insulated because normally we have springlike weather year round here in this part of Mexico. As this was the only review posted after their visit I opted to hide reviews. This March 2011 Vrbo informed advertisers they no longer have the option and all reviews will be posted. Hence, one review which is negative. For positive reviews of Tres Casitas in San Miguel please type in these words plus Trip Advisor. If you´ve stayed at Tres Casitas PLEASE DO write a review here! I believe it´s sure to be more positive than number one from Feb. 2010.

Buyer Beware! This place is tacky! Dark, dingy and disappointing. Not one comfortable place to sit or to lie. King bed has 6" soft foam mattress on plywood base. Filthy skylights. Sofa is cement with four small 2" thick cushions that don't fit the sofa, instead of fitted cushions, like so many other places. Chipped dishes, rusty pots and pans, with lids that don't fit. Not even a bathmat - just a small towel. Owner is on the premises and doesn't care or extend much assistance. There are MANY other options in this price range that I would search some more. It is a good location, close to El Jardin.
