This was a great vacation and we did not even have great weather. My children had a wonderful time in the boats and swimming in the lake. I can't even tell you how many fish we caught. It was such a relaxing place! All wonderful views and very peaceful. Thanks so much again Rita and John - we had a wonderful time!

Perfect Retreat!

We loved this lake home!! Family of 5 stayed for 4 days and it was absolutely perfect. I agree with another review that the pictures don't really do it justice, especially the work done in the bathrooms. It was very clean and well equipped for just about anything. The kids enjoyed the pool table and dart board. I got a few runs in on the treadmill and we had a blast "sledding" on the frozen lake. Had a few great meals out...the Bear Creek Inn (for dinner) and the Bear Creek Cafe (for breakfast), but also cooked meals at "home" with plenty of room around the dinner table. We stayed in January and we got hit with some snow, so we weren't able take advantage of the jacuzzi. My 10 year old boy loves fishing and was already picturing the lake and what it would be like in the summer with all the boats there to use. We did take the kids to see a movie at a theater close by. It was right next to Sno Mountain. We had intended a tubing trip there but changed plans due to the weather. Lots to do all relatively close by! The house and it's amenities are great, but what really makes it special is the care and the "customer service" you get from John and Rita. Questions answered promptly, helpful suggestions, fantastic line of communication before, during and after our stay, and just all around good people to do business with. As I stated earlier, we got some snow while we were there and Rita was sure to call the next morning all ready to send the plow to get us out if needed. We happened to have 4-wheel drive so we were good, but she was definitely looking out for us. Can't wait to return again. We had a great time in January, but I think the summer/fall months would just be ideal!!! Lovely setting and it really was the perfect retreat for us! Thanks John and Rita!!

Dear John & Rita~ Back in Nebraska after a beautiful Thanksgiving in Syracuse at our sons home and your Special Lake Home in Bear Creek. The Cabin was absolutely perfect. The wood stove provided warmth and mood, the hot tub a great muscle relaxer after a spin on the treadmill, and the air hockey was a stupendous hit with our grand daughters Amelia 7 and Ruby 5. Angela and I arrived first and enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Bear Creek Inn (recommended in your instruction packet). As a group we had an excellent meal and experience at the Bear Creek Cafe (again recommended in your instructions), and on our last night, Saturday, Angela and I took the family for dinner at the Bear Creek Inn. Our server and bartender on Tuesday nite was Denise and she was our server again on Saturday night. She remembered us, our names and the exact drinks we ordered. The meal was absolutely 5 star. The tended to the young girls with the perfect pre-dinner fun coloring, served made-to-order youngster food, and spoiled us with rack of lamb, new york strip steak, and I don't remember what all else. It was all a wonderful dining experience. We were in the restaurant for nearly two hours, which for 2 children 7 and 5 in the world of chain restaurants and fast food experiences was incredible. My son, and daughter in law were a bit taken back with homemade bread, soup, salad bar, entree, vegetable, rice or potato, coffee, tea or milk and dessert all for the price of an entree. The commented that they would like to go there every Saturday night. Sorry I am going on so long but I just wanted to express the fact how very much we enjoyed sharing your beautiful home with us and how important your instruction sheet with the restaurant ideas was to the unforgettable memories and experience we had for Thanksgiving 2010. This has to be the most peaceful place on earth. The view was absolutely the most beautiful thing we have ever seen. Our dog even stared out of the window for large chunks of time. The house is very nice, spacious and very clean. We loved the fires, hot tubbing and boating. I loved the wooden rocking chair outside. Jeff really enjoyed the bass and pike in your lake. Very nice area all around with lots to do. We would come here again and again. Thanks Rita and John.

We had a fabulous week at Rita & John's home. The house itself has so much to offer; enough amenities to keep the kids entertained allowing grown ups to relax. The lake is beautifully peaceful and we all enjoyed going out on to the lake using the boat and kayak supplied. The hot tub was wonderful. We played pool, played cards, and relaxed - spending some great quality family time together. There are great shops a short drive away, we didn't eat out though as we enjoyed cooking in the evening. We didn't want to leave! I would certainly recommend this rental to anyone. Finally..Rita and John were both kind and thoughtful and a pleasure to deal with. All the family had a great week and would return!

We stayed for a week at this beautiful home. It was so peaceful and relaxing with everything you could need right at the house. The kids loved spending time on the lake in the boat and kayak. We played family card games every night. The use of playstation/pool table etc for the kids was great for when we wanted to relax. The hot tub was also wonderful. We didn't want to leave. There are plenty of shops a short drive away, a huge Walmart where you can buy just about anything. We didn't eat out as preferred to stay in and cook. Finally...Rita and John were perfect hosts, very kind and thoughtful, and a pleasure to deal with. We would visit again for sure and would recommend this property to anybody.

house was clean. pretty much exact to the picture. great place to get away from it all. plenty of room. wish the weather held out for us. amenities are top notch. very secluded. no cell phone signal, no internet, no worldly problems. just you and your family. would most likely return for another trip. also best price versus other rentals we looked at. the owners are very nice people and i had no trouble contacting them for anything.

Our home is a True Lakefront and the area is absolutely gorgeous. We love our home too, and enjoy the quiet and away from it all location. We used to supply internet access but that changed recently when one of our renters downloaded an illegal site and we were forced to have it removed. It is a shame because, 1 bad apple ruins things for the great guests that we have. This week we have a nice family vacationing from England. Rita and John, We really enjoyed renting your house. We came up from Jersey. We brought our Yorkies and they loved it too! We really enjoyed the Hot Tub and snuggling by the Fire. My family, and I stayed here in october of 09, and had a wonderful time. The leaves on the trees across the lake were already turning and offered a beautiful view especially in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee. I caught the biggest bass of my life in the lake, a 4 pounder, which at first I thought was a snag because of the way my rod was bent. The lake is absolutely gorgeous. I enjoyed watching the phillies battle the rockies, in game one of the nlcs the first day there. It was an enjoyable time for the whole family, and the owners are absolutely great. Very nice and helpful. I am certainly lookinf forward to going back again this year hopefully around the same time, I love the poconos in the fall. I would definately recommend this property to a friend. Everything listed in the description and photos were accurate. The property was nice and clean upon our arrival.

Dear John & Rita, Our family enjoyed our stay here immensely! You have made this a great place for both indoor and outdoor fun. We had a wonderful 4th of July! We have never seen such an incredibly clean and clear lake! We learned that the best place to fish from the shore was the concrete dock by the dam between 7 and 9 PM to catch trout using wax worms and miniature marshmallows to make it float. It was a quiet, restful place to make wonderful family memories.

We really enjoyed our Anniversary vacation at your home. Sorry we called you so much but we just didn't know how to work the TV and Hot Tub. Carlo enjoyed the Super Bowl... earlier we went cross country skiing in the Lackawanna Forest (Snowmobile Trails) and no one ran us over! We came back here and enjoyed Chili, Nachos etc.. Our 35th Anniversary Monday we went hiking up Steep Pinchot Trail system with our doggies. It was really nice! We loved Wegmans food store and later that night enjoyed a fabulous snow storm, what a gift. The fireplace was great, we love a good fire. We had a great time! Best Wishes!

Rita & John, My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay! We are visiting from the Jersey shore and coming up here to the mountains is such an awesome time. We found your place on VRBO. You guys made the trip easy and very affordable. We talked to you and a lot of different renters and you by far were the kindest and really interacted with us before renting your home. While we were here we went skiing at Camelback (Awesome mountain). The weather was cold 29 to 32 degrees. It snowed a few days! Loved it! DEAR JOHN & RITA, WHAT MORE CAN I SAY THAT HASN'T ALREADY BEEN SAID ABOUT THIS HOUSE. WE LOVED THE HOUSE THE MINUTE WE ENTERED IT. THE LAYOUT IS PERFECT FOR US. THE UPSTAIRS BATHROOM IS VERY SPACIOUS. THE GAME ROOM IS SPECTACULAR. WE SPENT HOURS UPSTAIRS PLAYING POOL AND AIR HOCKEY PLUS THE OTHER GAMES THAT WERE THERE. THE LAKE IS BEAUTIFUL ALSO. WE WENT OUT ON THE BOAT MANY TIMES AND LOVED IT. WE ARE NOT INTO FISHING BUT WE SAW ALL OF THE DIFFERENT FISH IN THE LAKE. I'M THINKING OF BUYING A HOUSE UP THERE WHEN I RETIRE IN 4 1/2 YEARS. YOUR KITCHEN WAS FULLY STOCKED JUST LIKE YOU SAID. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. WE DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE SUNDAY MORNING BUT WE DID WITH MANY PICTURES AND MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME. The house was more than what I expected for the price. The description was accurate but the pictures on the website did not do the house justice. The property was clean and well-maintained. We arrived on a day when it was snowing and the drive-way was covered with snow but as soon as we pulled up, there was someone there to plow the snow so that we could pull our car in. The owners were very helpful via E-mail and by phone. I did not have any problems getting in contact with the owners. My friends joined me at this property and it's definitely a place where we would come back to stay. The only negative comment I would make about the property was that the weekend stay was too short. We were only able to check in on Friday after 3:00pm and then check out on Sunday was at 11:00am. We also have to wash the sheets before heading out on Sunday so we had to wake up really early to get everything ready to head out on Sunday. If we checked in at 3:00pm on Friday, we should at least be able to check out on Sunday at 3:00pm as well. Checking out later on Sunday would give us time to clean, get all our belongings together and time to eat before getting on the road.

Owner response:We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Customer satisfaction is always our first priority! We do offer a late check out which gives you until 4:00 instead of 11:00 for a small fee. Normally during ski season when we are busy we cannot always offer the late check out since we usually have renters checking in the same day at 3:00 which allows for meticulous cleaning of the house. Cleanliness is very essential in our business. As we explained, we do not charge any cleaning fees, our prices are all inclusive. We also offer linen service.

Gorgeous! This is the best description that I can give for this beautiful, Lakefront house that has everything. The house is definitely the nicest that we have ever stayed in. The Marble & Ceramic tile Baths are gorgeous. The bedrooms are very comfortable, The Game Room & Hot Tub are another added plus for having so much for such reasonable prices. This is by far the most Luxurious home for the best value we have ever stayed in. We have become regulars at the Bear Creek house returning 2 to 3 times every year. It has become "Our Favorite Spot." John & Rita always make our transaction a very pleasant one and we will definitely be back in the summer.

John & Rita, Where do we begin, the Location "Awesome", The house was wonderfully comfortable, clean and inviting. The Lake was directly right outside the door and the view was breathtaking! The bathrooms are especially gorgeous. John's Tile Work is outstanding especially the shower on the first floor. We especially love the fact that there are no homes on the other side of the lake which made for a lovely view looking out the picture window. We took the boats out and caught a few fish. The water is crystal clear and we really enjoyed preparing our meals in your beautiful well equipped kitchen, we were delighted to see that you even supplied a Crock Pot! We would highly recommend this rental. It is outstanding, thank you so much.

Dear John & Rita, What a great house! After traveling 3000 miles from San Francisco, Ca. it was so nice to walk into a cozy warm home! The kids and my hubby have spent countless hours in the game room. I believe they had an olympic air hockey tournament. Myself, I enjoyed cooking in your lovely kitchen. Although it has been a bit windy, the sun has been shining so we ventured out on the lake with the canoe. What a blast! We also took advantage of the Hot Tub. This is a great rental! Rita and John were very responsive and provide all information we needed prior to our trip. Upon arrival the house was spotless and the hot tub was toasty. Unfortuantely we had near-constant rain one day. But there were so many fun activities inside - billiards, air hockey, poker, movies, video games, relaxing by the wood stove and of course the hot tub - that we had a great time despite the April showers. The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils, pots/pans, etc. so there is really no need to eat out. We had 6 adults and 3 infants staying but the house still felt spacious. Thanks for sharing your place. Can't wait to visit again!

Rita & John, Thank you very much for opening up your home for us. Your home is lovely & very friendly. You have made it perfect with the decor & the furnishings & kitchen supplies. It is very clean and your choices of the flooring and tiling assure the cleanliness. We visited many State Parks in the area and enjoyed the fresh air and relaxing at "Home", with the Pool Table, Treadmill and Hot Tub. Thank you mostly for opening your home up to Pets. Thank you Rita & John! What a relaxing spot on a beautiful lake. Your home was warm and welcoming. Between trips to the Hot Tub, we enjoyed the Pool Table, Air Hockey, and the bedrooms. We even had a blowing snow storm on Saturday. We stayed warm and comfortable by the fire. Steaks on the grill one night.... delicious thanks to the men cooking a real "treat" for the girls. Had a scrabble battle but we won't give away the outcome. We even got in our workouts on the Treadmill, great idea to have one here! We would love to return for another restful weekend. Thank you!

This house was absolutely immaculate!!!! It was extremely clean and ready for our stay upon arrival. The kitchen was fully equipped with all cooking utensils and pots and pans. The game room was a huge hit on our stay especially the poker table for the guys. Each room had its own unique identity. The view of the pond is extrodinary!!! The pond is only a few steps from the back door. The house is also very close to the mountains for skiing or snowboarding. Also, there are outlets which were a nice surprise to myself and the other 2 girls on the trip. I would definately rent from John and Rita again and look forward to doing so.

John and Rita, What a marvelous vacation we had!! A fabulous time was had by all, but none enjoyed themselves more than our dog, Andra. She spent countless hours swimming in the lake and running in the beautiful weather. Your house is absolutely lovely and incredibly comfortable. We enjoyed many days fishing on the boat and many evenings grilling and relaxing by the outdoor fireplace. We can't wait to come visit again soon! Best, John, Dan and Andra

John and Rita, Warm days and cool nights.....How perfect could the weather be! What a wonderful way to end the long Hot Summer. We enjoyed the house and lake. What a wonderful place to relax! I especially enjoyed the Hot Tub....A perfect remedy to healing my back I hurt before coming here. The house is wonderful and set up perfectly with lots of room and wonderful furnishings. We enjoyed your lovely house, John and Rita, and would love to return. John I especially appreciate your work here. You do good work with good materials and it is noted. John and Rita, We had a wonderful time fishing. We caught 3 pickerels, 12 inches long,and 6 Bass. The house is great, We had a blast playing pool and table hockey. We can't wait to come back again very soon. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. Love, Ying and Mom

We were guests of John and Rita for the week 8/7-8/14, 2005...not only did they provide us with a fantastic, comfortable and spotless home to rent, beautiful vista of a lovely lake and surrounding woodlands, and a super "game" area where not only my grandson, but all of my grown-up sons took advantage of the pool table, air hockey and treadmill, and some rousing dart competitions. The days were beautiful and hot, however, with the air conditioning we were always able to go inside and cool off. Also, if we had sore muscles from rowing the canoe, the hot tub was fantastic in the evening. The kitchen was well stocked with everything one would need for gourmet meals, if that's what you want to fix, or just plain "good old home cooking". All in a super great vacation spot...wonderful hosts and God willing, we'll be back. Marigrace Griffith and family

John and Rita, Your house on the lake is wonderful. We felt right at home. Every room has it's own personality. The game room is great. The canoe came in handy and all total we caught clost to 100 fish, perch, shiner and blue gills and 1 bass, large mouth 14", the record for the week. We traveled all the way from Austin Texas and the weather was perfect. Watching the meteors from the HOt Tub is cool too! Sincerely, George and Kevin
