Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1997
My parents died when I was in my 20s, and my mother asked my uncle to take over her parenting responsibilities. He was very artistic and in the 1950s became very involved in the Instituto Allende. I never got to San Miguel, though. I was a young lawyer, always working.
When my uncle died, he left me his paintings. Seeing them opened up a longing in my heart. I took my family to San Miguel, and the connection was instantaneous. Four days later, I bought a house there.
Our furniture had to be constructed off site and then assembled inside. Another great feature is the roof garden. When the sun comes up, you hear the church bells toll, dogs bark, and roosters crow. Squealing with delight, kids burst from their houses to play or go to school. And a golden light spills over the buildings. It is in those moments that my uncle is so alive to me. I hear what he heard and see what he saw. In short, I understand.

My husband and I rented this apartment for a month not knowing exactly what we were getting into. We were very pleasantly surprised. It is everything it is advertised to be. We found the kitchen well equiped as we cooked most of our meals. The view, as everyone else says is unbelievable. You can even see the large stage in the Jardine from the patio. We walked into the downtown area at least twice a day which kept our fitness level up as it is a bit of a hill. The housekeeper is a very friendly and hard working. My husband kept trying to make her work less. We would recommend the Sicilian resturant at the Miridor on Sal Real a Oro. The manager is english speaking and very helpful if you have questions. The Sazon Cooking school is also a treat where I learned to make tortillas. All in all a great place to stay while exploring the area.

I have stayed at the Barranca location on 3 occaisions. The view from the balcony and rooftop are the best I have ever experienced in all my traveling. San Miguel is beautiful ,inexpensive, safe, and friendly to Americans and foreign visitors. I want to emphasize SAFE!!!!!!! The condo is located only 4 blocks from the Jardin or town square. It is located on a hill overlooking the entire city. Our trips to San Miguel have been the most spiritual ,enjoyable, and affordable of all the trips we have ever taken. Due to the altitude the weather is lovely year round. The food and cooking classes were superb. The condo is colorfully decorated with local furniture and art work. The kitchen has a gas stove and is fully stocked. We were within 4 blocks of 6 wonderful restaurants. This area of Mexico is safer than my home town in the USA.

Sunsets and City Lights

The apartment is delightful in every respect. It is nicely appointed, there are several windows and skylights, so it is well-lighted and cheerful in the daytime, and it ofers lovely vistas of San Miguel and the distant mountains. We especially enjoy the view from the kitchen and the living room in the late afternoon and evening. The sunsets range from beautiful on normal days to spectacular whenever there are clouds in the sky. After the last glimmer of sunlight is gone, the view changes to the twinkling lights of the city, with the three main churches dramatically illuminated. The city is blessed with many wonderful restaurants, but cooking in the apartment is a special pleasure. The kitchen has all of the utensils and equpiment necessary to prepare and serve anything, it is well-lighted by day and by night, and it has enough room for my wife and me to work together comfortably and easily. The apartment is convenient to everything, yet it is located in a quiet neighborhood. The owner's on-scene property manager in San Miguel is always available for any possible question or concern. The linens and towels are changed weekly, and the plants are watered and the apartment is lovingly cleaned twice a week, all by the charming long-time housekeeper. The listing description and photographs very accurately describe and depict the apartment.

My wife & I rented this wonderful condo for 3 to 9 months each year for for 9 consecutive years. The closet and other cabinetry is sufficient for longer says. The kitchen is furnished as if it were someone's home...not a rental. That is rare in the smaller San Miguel rentals. We would still be there if we had not found a perfect home to purchase just a few blocks from this condo. The photos describe perfectly the interior and views from the rooftop. I only add that the entire living room wall, looking over Centro, is glass with a wide sliding door to a covered terrace the width of the room. The bedroom has only a skylight over a build in desk. Closing the door makes the room comfy and very quite. This is a perfect rental for a couple. However, other tenants have used a rollaway bed for guests staying a night or two. DM
