You will love it here! Casa Montoya is a very romantic, charming adobe vacation rental house 3 blocks from historic Taos Plaza. The tall cottonwood trees in the backyard keep the house cool in summer and provide a graceful backdrop for the private hot tub. Watch the stars in the private hot tub - there's a tall fence surrounding it.
The high-end furniture is a suave mixing of old country charm and sophisticated comfortable furnishings designed by an award-winning designer from Paris. Cook a great meal in the big kitchen which is fully equipped, and let the dishwasher do the dishes - or walk to the wonderful restaurants nearby. The bathroom (tub and shower) has Mexican tile and hand-painted sink. The floors in the house are wood and Saltillo tile and the ceilings are wood. You'll sleep well in the King bed in the bedroom with four big pillows and three small ones. For more than two guests, there's a Queen sofa bed in the living room. The brick patio is for outdoor eating or relaxing in summertime. The gas BBQ grill is easy to use.
You can enjoy a romantic weekend or longer vacation and delight in all the amenities of home in this 'magical, enchanting abode' (words of a guest.) There's a small casita in the back of the property which I sometimes rent out, but so far only fabulous people have been drawn to this property on Montoya Street.
And Ahhhh. A massage feels good anytime, but it’s especially good after a day on the slopes. My friend Christina is a licensed massage therapist, one of the best in Taos County. It's $70 for a one-hour massage and Christina will bring her massage table so you don’t even have to leave Casa Montoya. Just enjoy the massage, then take a snooze in your bed. Stay 7 nights or longer and a one-hour massage is free (this cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts).
Bring your laptop: we have DSL and wireless internet connection. If your favorite TV show is on while you'll be gone, just record it. We have DirecTV with TiVo, HBO & Starz. VCR & DVD player, CD & stereo, dishwasher, gas grill, humidifier, yoga mat, 8 & 10 lb. weights. Cooking utensils, linens, towels (thick L.L. Bean ones) and firewood provided. There's a water filter on the kitchen faucet for pure drinking water (Taos water tastes unpleasant.) The laundry room has a washer and dryer and laundry detergent is supplied.
This is a non-smoking rental. And sorry, Casa Montoya is not suitable for small children. Pets are welcome, but there is an additional pet fee.
Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk to from Casa Montoya. You'll love this place - only fabulous people have stayed here!

Why the Owner Chose Taos
There's no place more magical or inspiring than Taos! I live 35 miles north of Taos in the boonies but I get to Taos at least once a week - usually to babysit Winton's two precious little girls and go to the supermarket.
The Unique Benefits at this House
In the summer it's always cool and toasty warm in winter!
Owner's Map of Taos
Since I began writing and giving inspirational talks (about growing younger!), I turned over management of Casa Montoya and Casita Montoya to my wonderful, beautiful daughter Winton. Guests love her, especially because she's an artist and pays attention to detail and makes sure the place is super clean. And if she knows it's your birthday or anniversary, she'll have flowers waiting for you..
I'm not totally out of the picture - Winton still gives me chores to do, like buy butter or extra virgin olive oil or cereal for guests. All our guests remark that it's a well-stocked house and they LOVE Winton. I am so blessed.

Fantastic place and equally fantastic service. I would happily recomment Casa Montoya to friends and family - in fact we are hoping to get back again in 2008. Very central to Taos and the ski valley, Casa Montoya has everything we needed for our ski trip - the hot tub was the icing on the cake! Thanks again for your attention to detail and your warm welcome.

When we decided to come to Taos at the last minute, little did we know we would be so blessed to find ourselves in Casa Montoya - we are grateful! Had a wonderful, albeit short, visit. Hiked the Traders Trail to the Rio Grande in the morning - a great warm-up for the Devisadero Loop Trail in the Carson Nat'l Forest - beautiful perfect hike!! The hot tub was much appreciated after a total of 9 miles today! Thank you, from the bottom of our heart - for the comfortable respite.

I have stayed here twice and just love it. It is such a comfortable home - so clean, cozy and nicely appointed. I also love the new couch (great place to nap - and fold out for a serious snooze). Also, the owners are super-friendly and easy to communicate with. I always feel like a special guest. Everything is sooooo nice and great to have that pleasant short walk to everything in old town. Can't wait to return!

Must Love Dogs.......barking, barking

A neighbor's dog barked all day and all night. The owner of this house is aware of this, calling animal control and even talking to the mayor to no avail. She advised me to call the police/animal control which I did, 3x, not what I wanted to do on vacation and it didn't help anyway. The owner was very apologetic. Before I agreed to take the place I asked if it was quiet and told 'just the normal living noises,( I don't consider constant barking 'normal') Ear plugs didn't help. On saturday night the neighbors were yelling and hitting each other and more dogs barking. Didn't use the hot tub b/c it wasn't clean (cloudy) Other than those 2 problems, the cottage was every bit as charming as people have said. They thought of everything to make it comfortable. I would love to stay there again IF it was in a different location. Lovely inside.. problems outside. I left early and felt like I had wasted my money
Owner response:First I would like to say: please read our other guest reviews. This is the first negative guest review we have ever had and we've been renting our lovely Casa for almost 10 years now. Our guests love our Casa and the fact that we are family owned (not an anonymous property rental agency) and that we take good care of our guests. Many come back and make it there vacation home in Taos. This incident was a rare occurrence and could have happened anywhere in Taos. Unfortunately, the neighbor's dog did bark while our guest was there. However, it has since been removed as there were many complaints from all over the neighborhood. I did speak with the neighbor at the time and asked them to take better care of their dog. I did visit with the guests as well and tried to find an immediate solution. Unfortunately, also when close to the historic Plaza, the neighborhoods are more closely knit and there are thus neighborhood noises, though dogs barking is NOT a constant occurrence and it certainly is NOT in our neighborhood. Guests have given us great reviews. I'm sorry that this guest had the unfortunate experience that she had. Also - we clean our hot tub after every single guest and we clean it thoroughly. Thank you. Winton Wood, property manager (and daughter to the owner).

Our second visit to Casa Montoya - unfortunately 3 years apart. Walking in the door was like coming home, so warm and welcoming. The very high standards we found on our first visit have been maintained and we were very happy we had decided to return. The hot tub after a tough day on the slopes is highly recommended, the kiva fire is geat for quiet evenings in but the casa is within walking distance of town if you do get the energy to go out!! Hopefully it wont be another 3 years before we get back again:)

This home was perfect! A home away from home with absolutely everything anyone could need. We spent our honeymoon there. It was romantic and cozy! We definately will be telling everyone we know about it and will return many more times! Can't say enough nice things about it. Only bad thing to say is that we did not have near enough time there! The hot tub is awesome as is the fireplace. Truly wonderful memories! Thankful that someone would share such an amazing place with us!

We stayed at Casa Montoya a year ago and had such a happy visit that we went back for a long weekend birthday celebration. The house is a delight - beautifully furnished, well-maintained and full of unexpected and generous touches. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. The location is ideal, very quiet but within easy walking distance of Taos restaurants, galleries and museums. It is a lovely and relaxing place to stay, and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

Casa Montoya is a fabulous place to stay. The accommodations were incredible. Our family felt at home as we were very comfortable with the size and quietness of the neighborhood. We loved the location as being so close to the many shops and eating establishments. If you are looking for a Home away from Home, I would highly recommend Casa Montoya. Our family will definitely be coming back to our “Now” new favorite place to stay. Thank you Casa Montoya for making us feel so comfortable.

Casa Montoya was very conveniently located within the town of Taos and all that it has to offer. The inside of the home is attractively decorated and very comfortable to stay in. There was something for everyone! We especially enjoyed the hot tub after long days of skiing. The drive to the Taos Ski Valley doesn't take too long, and you won't mind the time in the car with the scenic view of the mountains on the way there. Casa Montoya is a perfect soultion for a family that doesn't want to be cooped up in a hotel room and wants the comforts of home! This house has everything and then some! The best part...we saved a ton of money staying at Casa Montoya compared to a tiny hotel room in the Taos Ski Valley. Anytime we come to Taos we will be staying at Casa Montoya!
