Wonderful location and a perfect equiped condo

Guest: Theo (Dorsten, Germany)
Date of Stay: 04/14/11 Review Submitted: 05/21/11

Aloha, it was the best week we ever had in holiday. Watching the surfers and whales from the lanai was a great experience for us. The town Kailua-Kona has an athmosphere which matches perfectly to our preferences. And of course we did a lot of sight-seeing on Big Island. Thank you so much for sharing your condo with us. We are sure that we will try to come back soon. Greatings from Germany Katja and Theodor

This was our first trip to the islands and the condo was everthing we hoped for and more! We stayed at two hotels first but didn't relax until we got here. Location is absolutely perfect-everything is within walking distance, condo felt like home-loved the comfy bed & linens, checking the turtles every day felt like having our own pets, gorgeous sunsets, pool & hot tub were so clean, and my new favorite scent is Plumera! Thank you so much!

Great Location!

This comfortable condo can't be beat for location. Whether you're looking for beautiful sunsets, time on the beach or swimming in the pool, you'll find it here. The condo is sunny, open and stocked with all the fun things you could ask for- beach equipment, video game system and TV/DVD, a shady lanai for outdoor dining or watching the surfers and a complete kitchen plus BBQs if you want to dine in. Plenty of restaurants and Farmer's Market are within walking distance. The Kona Reef is quiet and well-maintained for a perfect tropical get-away.

Live in Paradise!!

Guest: Marsha (Little Rock, Arkansas, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/01/10 Review Submitted: 09/19/10

This condo was beyond all my expectations. No where else can you sit on the lanai and watch the surfers and then walk onto the beach. Its location is second to none. Close to town for shopping and restaurants. Well maintained with all of the little "extras" that make a vacation even more special. We have stayed in other condos on the Big Island but will plan all our future trips around this condo's availability.

INCREDIBLE!! LOCATION, Amenities, Convenience, PURE HEAVEN!!

Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 08/25/10

After searching for a wonderful home-away-from home for our vacation (sons turning 6 and 9), we decided on Kona Reef A-7. It was a hard call, as we had 2 other AMAZING choices, but we are SOOO glad we chose this condo! Though only 1 Bedroom, the boys were perfectly comfortable on the pull-out sofa (with it's own TV / Gaming system / DVD player / Surround sound) in the living room, and we had 2 bathrooms (fantastic when a woman on a trip with 3 guys!). The bed in the master is SOOOO comfy!! I hate to say it, but it's more comfortable than my SelectComfort mattress at home!! The condo is VERY WELL STOCKED with essentials and nice-to-haves... DISHWASHER, microwave, stove, toaster / convection oven, laundry, PLENTY of cooking tools and dishes, WINE OPENER... ;-) The unit is so comfortable inside, yet it offers something the others DON'T - prime real estate RIGHT ON THE WATER!! The patio is amazing, there is a surf spot right out front (for my husband) and the pool water just 20 steps from our living room. The wall-unit A/C was OUTSTANDING, though we didn't really need it much (the ceiling fans and cross-breeze was fantastic!). The condo saved us $$ by providing awesome boogie boards, snorkel equipment, beach chairs, umbrella, cooler....and we even bought a surf board here (rather than rent), which we will likely leave behind to "pay it forward). THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for an incredible vacation!! You have set the bar for any condos we rent on other islands.... MAHALO!! ALSO - Parking was SOOOO convenient! No stairs (just a few steps down from the parking garage), and unlike our neighbors on other floors / locations, we just looked out our wall-wall, floor-ceiling windows to start our day! Turtles and tidepools 20 feet from our living room, sandy beach 25 yards to the left! We can't recommend this unit more highly - and Sandy was INCREDIBLE to work with!!

Best Condo at Kona Reef!

Guest: 808 Dream (New Mexico)
Date of Stay: 07/16/10 Review Submitted: 08/01/10

I've stayed at several condos at the Kona Reef and A-7 is by far my favorite. It is located on a corner - with the swimming pool area on one side and the ocean on the other! It is bright, clean, well-supplied, and very professionally managed by the owners. Kona Reef is located close to activities and great restaurants, but far enough away to allow for quiet time on the lanai. You'll love this place!

And what a fantastic location for a place to stay! We really enjoyed watching all the wipe-outs in the surf each morning at breakfast. We highly recommend doing the manta ray dive or snorkel. An awesome experience! We went w/Big Island Divers but think any of the dive shops would be fine since they all go to the same place.

We enjoyed the water activities, the morning and evening surfers and the great sunsets! It's alwasy great being in walking distance to shopping & eating areas as well. We enjoyed a quiet restful week along with a few day trips to see the sites! We were also able to take in the Kona Coffee Festival - how fun! Thanks for sharing your condo! The wamr sun & mild temps will be missed as we travel back to central Iowa! God Bless! Ray & Ginny - - - For us, it was an Anniversary Week . . 42 years of marriage!

From the Guestbook in the condo: Aloha! We had a wonderful time on the Big Island. There was so much to do and so little time. MUST VISIT: Volcano National Park - Kilauea Iki Trail , 4.1 miles but so worth it. Walk down into the crater but start trail counter clockwise for a less strenous hike. Begins with a wonderful stroll through the rain forest. Pu'u honua o Hanaunau - National Park "place of refuge" - Fun place to explore - $5.00 park fee - Remarkable stone wall and wood carvings of goids. Off highway 11 onto 160 (head south from condo). Walk out on the lava rock and look down. Awesome fish. FOOD: At Volcano Park: Kilauea Lodge & restaurant - 967-7366 - Awesome food but expensive. Great after a long day at the park Coffee Shack : Breakfast yummy! French toast and eggs benedict. Kayaking: Kona Boys - Great private tours with lunch (good) included. Request Eli - very affable. Toiur to Cap't Cook monument. We did not get a chance to really explore Kohala and Waimea Valley - ran out of time. If you have a 4-wheel drive, this is an awesome spot. 2/3 milke past 80 mile marker on Hwy 11 S on your left from the condo. Take this long bumpy road about 4 miles and you will end up a ta beach (black sand) that will knock your socks off - you are permitted on this road. A beach only locals know about. A must see! We hope your trip is as exciting and memorable as ours. Remember - life is only remarkable when you explore. It is the spice of life! Thanks for the wonderful hovel! PS - Pull over and pick up the brown coconut - crack open and enjoy the sweetness of true Hawaii flavor. Greetings, Wendy and Mark (Sumpter) Olant

This is a great location to stay while in Kona. We could see turtles and dolphins in front of condo. It is in short walking distance of the downtown, so we could walk to restaurants, shops, luau, and pier for boating activities. We could see the sunset from our location without leaving hte condo.

We came to relax and that is what we did! Dan had done Lava Man on Sunday and Karen just finished a successful sell-out run of a newly created musical in California - "Puah's Midwife Crisis". A very comfortable condo and well equipped for cooking our meals. Had other race friends over for dinner one night & appetizers the next - always out on the lanai. We loved being close enough to walk to town for our morning lattes - we like Hula Bean best. Our only meal out was lunch at "You Make the Roll" up the alley just before Hula Bean - freshly made sushi - 6 pieces for $3.00. Loved the Unagi (BBQ Eel). Having massages at Aloha Hawaiian Ocean Massage & Spa today. Then moving to another oceanfront condo further south for our last night (this one wasn't available) We don't know how any other can compare with this one. Thank you for opeing your home to us - Mahalo Dan & Karen C. Russell Cupeitino, CA 95014

WOW! We have had a wonderful few days in paradise. This is a getaway planned by my husband. He always plans the BEST vacations! We have enjoyed our stay in Kona tremendously. We've left 3 kids at home with grandparents, so this has been the ultimate stress-reliever. We've been to Oahu, Maui & Kaui. We think this might be the best. We love being close to the ocean and close to town. Thank you so much for the wonderful view from A7. Some favorite memories: - Sunset from the lanai - Snorkeling at Honaunau Bay - Body Glove sunset cruise - Dinner at Lulu's - Walking Hapuna beach - Bread Pudding at Bubba Gumps - Farmers Market down the road - Hiking Arch City We are on our way to Hilo for some time on the Volcano side. This will be hard to beat! Thank you... Hope we will be back!!

Amhalo for sharing your home! We travelled tot eh Big Island for 5 years from our home on the mainland - York Beach Maine. Many of our favorite activities there translate nicely here - kayaking, golfing, surfing and lots of hikes - but much more pleasant with your February and March temps! Bodyboarding! YES! We are staying in this unit for amonth & then travel a bit more south for another month. Other islands are lovely (for a few days) but we prefer the heartbeat of the Big Island. Went to Oahu to surf & pearl for a few days! FAVORITES - GOLF - Big Island and Kona CC HIKES - Down (off 11) to Cap't Cooks (we go early, pack a lunch & snorkel); Puoluo Valley - down only about 450 into beautiful seaside - up other mountain. Again water & food! Sea is very rough here - no swimming BEACHES - Surfing has not been great. HAPUNA - great wave riding & bodyboarding - depending on how rough swell is. Restrooms. CEMETARY BEACH PARK - very clean, fun family beach, bodyboarding, restrooms, outside shower. MAUNA KEA - Body boarding RESTAURANTS - For hanging out- Kona Brewery: good slice & a salad. BREAKFAST - Big Island Grille (on Kuakini and Henry St) or here. ITALIAN - Pescatore - Hilo Center. Jamisons - get a table by the rail. Alhoa Cafe & Theatre - Great food - we got tickets for Big River - wonderful! (322-1648). Bar at Outrigger has great pupus & sunset views. Thai food - Thai Orchid - locals gave us the idea - below Kona Brewery Mahalo, Andy & Ron Ferragamo

We are not ready to go home - too much fin and relaxation. This unit is perfect for our family. The proximity to everything is wonderful. OUR RECOMMENDATIONS - Kona Brewing Company - pizza, salads and beer - Kona Inn at sunset in the bar for a HUGE calamari sandwich - Quinns fish and chips - oh so good - L&L BBQ for good local food - Lava Java for coffee and cinnamon rolls We found some nice free tennis courts at the old airport. They are lit at night. We drove to Hawi and went through Waimea. Really nice dive and the ahi sandwich at the Bamboo Restaurant in Hawi was wonderful. As usual, we had too little time (next time - a month minimum) and we WILL return. OH - to boogie board with kids, go to the White Sand Beach down Alii Drive. The White Family Gig Harbor Washington

It has been quite a couple of weeks! - Dennis and Jack (16) and his best friend came in on 7/9 thru 7/28 - I arrived 7/11 and stayed thru 7/28. - Don (19) and his best friend arrived 7/16 and stayed thru 7/23. - - - We had 4 football players sleeping on blow-up mattresses on the floor in the livingroom for one week (2 stayed longer than that!). - The 2 youngest west jet skiing (not really worth it - too many rules and you can only ride in a small area). - The oldest 2 boys went parasailing - We all went deep sea fishing. We caught 4 tuna (whcih they cleaned for us to bring back and cook) and a small marlin (4'), which made the boys day! Super fishing - GO EARLY MORNING OR 2:30 TO 6:30. That's when the big fish bite. Don't go during a full moon! DEFINITELY USE "BITE ME" FISHING. They were great with the boys and made sure that each of them caught something! - We went cliff jumping and swam around the blow hole on South Point. The teenagers said that this was the best!! Drive south on 11 to ~ mile marker 68. Take South Point Road 10.5 miles. Take the road on the right 1 mile. The water is clear and calm. Don't be afraid of the ladders to climb back up - we had 300# football players climbing back up. After you jump in, uou can swim to the blow hole and play around. The back of the hole has a lava tube you can climb back up to the "main area" if you would rather do that - But wear your water shoes (we have 6 pair in the condo for you!). You are climbing on lava. - We went ATVing to the Waipio Valley Waterfalls (ATVoutdoorsHawaii.com) We've done this quite a few times. If you want to slow down and tour the cliffs and scenery - call and ask for a tour time with couples - OR if you want to have a great time hot dogging on the ATV's - ask for Kalani (one of the guides) and ask him when he is taking out a more rambuncious group. - Some really good friends flew in on 7/25, so we all had dinner at the Kona Canoe Club before all my men left. - I was lucky enough tot stay 2 extra days ALL BY MYSELF - before I flew back to civilization. - Dennis and I went to Jamisons (our favorite) for dinner. We fed the boys at Oceans (good prices before 6pm), the Kona Canoe Club (good prices before 7pm) and Splashers - the guys favorite burgers. Dennis and I will be back in March. We are going to tile the Master Bedroom. That's OK - we love it here! Dennis and Sandy Powers Maroa, IL

We had a wonderful time once again in Hawaii. This is our 4th stay in A& and we love this unit. Our favorite things to do are running early in the morning followed by breakfast at Lava Java. Most mornings we had their berry-bran or mango-cinnamon muffins out on our lanai. We always rent snorkel gear at Snorkel Bob's for a week and snorkel early in th morning at mile 5. Our favorite restaurants are Roy's, Huggo's, Merrimans, Rio's - Wednesday night lobster dinner for $19.95. Till next time - Aloha! Perry & Lori Soto Danville, CA

We very much enjoyed the condo. After 10 hectic days elsewhere in Maui and Kawai, we were really looking forward to taking it easy. And that we did!!! With such wasy access to the pool and surf, and with the condo so well equipped, we hardly went anywhere else. The sounds and sights of the ocean were really rather mesmerizing. We think you should consider posting a warning sign that one will encounter unexpected levels of bliss!! Thanks again for a wonderful week.

From the Guestbook in our condo: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Location, Location, Location!!! Couldn't have asked for more. Sitting on the lanai watching turtles in the surf, dolphins flipping by and whales slapping and breaching. incredibe! And we could walk to town. Our favorite restaurant is La Bourgogne on highway 11 between Lako and SeaView. Two wonderful french meals and a great wine list. We livedin France for five years so this was very good french cuisine. Played golf - our favorite Waikoloa Kings (and if you book 2 rounds at the same time, it costs only $103 with cart, water and great engraved, personal bag tags). Our first time on the big island and hopefully not our last.

From the Guestbook n our condo: LOVED your condo! Location was perfect and a great home away from home. Enjoyed reading the other guest comments. they are always helpful to I wanted to add a couple of items: For a great meal (fun & inexpensive) in Kona, try "Kona Brewing Company". They have fantastic pizza and great ambience for a family or a couple. For a wonderful fish meal, the best place we tried was "Merriman's" in Waimea. It was 10/10. "I'm already cravng this place. Lunch is cheaper... great fish tacos, fish sandwich. We loved snorkeling at Kahalua Beach... Try going early AM - 7-8 am (no crowds) Hope to come again with our golf clubs Thanks.

From our Guestbook in the Condo: Aloha! What a beautiful, clean condo. We truly enjoyed it! We are back for our 10 yr. Anniv. (to Kona) for "fun in the sun!" What a weather adventure! We have never seen such rain and flooding (and we're from Washington!) - power failure, schools closed all over the islands! We have, however, enjoyed our stay here - taken several car trips and done lots of shopping and good dining! Mahalo, Sandy & Dennis for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful beach-front condo.

From our Guestbook in the Condo: Things to do: Drive North to see ~ Waikoloa area & shopping ~ Hapuna Beach - great snorkling ~ Hawi (eat the the Bamboo! - closed Mondays) ~ Waimea - nice up-country town ~ Hilo...bring an umbrella! Great golf - don't miss both courses at Kona Country Club. Have a terrific lunch at the Vista Restaurant after golf...or just because. Great view & food! Fish & Chips - "Ono" at Quinns Kalbi Ribs - Quinns!!! Best Meal Ever ... Huggo's!!! Aloha! We truly enjoyed our stay at the Kona reef again. This was our first time in A-7 and it was great. We loved the convenience of the gound level to the pool or to the ocean. Very nice! It was thrilling watching the sunsets, the surfers, the Honus feedin at dusk every night, the big ships coming and leaving, the para-sailors (what FUN that would be!) and the numerous birds and geckos that call Hawaii home. The BBQs are such an asset ... gives us an option to cook here and relax the evening away... We hope to stay in A-7 next visit... we'll keep your information in our "vacations" file. Come and visit Seattle, WA sometime. We have great beauty, too! Mahalo!

From our Guestbook in the Condo: We have traveled to the other islands but Kona has been the most enjoyable thatnks to this wonderful condo right on the ocean. Just sitting here on the lanai watching all the water activities was the best part of the trip. The more we sat, the less we wanted to do - this is definitely a placce & so different from our little town in the Sierras. Shopping, eating, bars, people - all wonderful. We hate to leave and wish to stay another week - next time. This is paradise - come to Northern California sometime - different kind of beauty.

From the Guestbook in our Condo: We enjoyed everything about the condo. Great view, lanai, bed, BBQ and all the little extras. We were in Kona for the second time and your condo for the first time. The visit from Flossie (hurricane)a turned out to be a non-event. She fizzled off the coast, the winds stayed mild and there was no rain. She did shut down the town for 2 days in anticipation of high winds and flooding. Much better for all concerned that she went away quietly. The sunsets were great - 2 green flash days. We enjoyed hanging out and relaxing. The chocolate factory and vanilla factory are both interesting. Lots oif turtles while we were here right out front of the lanai. We'll be back!

From our Guestbook in our Condo: Great location! Bought too much food, but the housekeeping crew will probably claim the reat of it! Things to know: * If you turn on the TV, check out channel 9 (Big Island TV) * Don't attempt to body board without fins - you will not catch waves and you will bleed! * Bed too soft - but comfortable (NOTE FROM OWNERS - new king mattress on 1/29/08). * Enjoy! Well adorned, would definitely return.

From our Guestbook in the condo. Hawaii (Kona) is a great place to visit and I'd love to come back sometime soon! We went jet Skiing, rode ATVs and layed around the pool or nearest becash for most of our days. We also spent a good deal of our time down at Splashers Bar & Grill. Best burger I've ever had! Great area all around! Thanx Dennis & Sandy & Don! Zachary Gass #45

FROM THE OWNERS Aloha! We had four days before our 2 HS graduates joined us, so my amazing husband decided to pull up the carpet and lay ceramic tile in the main living area (the hallway, kitchen and both bathrooms already have ceramic tile). i was the gopher, and the grouter, but he laid 350 quare feet of tile! Not a bad job for a weeks time - but we had to do it in 3 days! We brought a friend as a graduation present to our oldest son. We actually spent more money feeding them than we did getting them to the islands! Amazing how much 2 football players can eat! We had a ball! We also put a HD flat screen TV in the livingroom and added a cd/DVD surround sound system. You have to visit the beach across from the miliary cemetary (about mile marker 98 on Queen's Highway). White sand, great boogie boarding, not crowded, nice place to swim, good snorkling just to the south. Very nice facilities and parking. ENJOY!

From the Guestbook in the condo: 2 weeks in PARADISE! Wow- what's not to love? Thank you for sharing your peice of paradise. We enjoyed the snorkeling, boogie boarding, body surfing (at the beach across from the Veteran's Cemetary) - and we have had huge swells! Though the volcano was quiet, we enjoyed touring the rim & Thurston lava tube - take the ranger (Charlotte - Monday only with her) lead tour into the dark side. 4th of July - a parade, fireworks in the bay, fireworks on the beach, anf the BEST sunset in 2 weeks! You are the best condo complex. The maintenance is superb! The BBQs & pool & grounds are immaculate. Thanx Sandy & family for sharing. You are blessed to share.

From the Guestbook in our condo: This has been a wonderful first time visit to the Big Island. We have enjoyed this location in particular. The waves just steps away, pool so close, walk to town, great snorkeling just a short drive away. Our girls (12 & 10) have been having a last. We have also been able to visit with friends that live on the Hilo side. Great local place to eat on Hwy #11 about 15 miles away (coffee country) called the coffee shack - doesn't look like much but the food and view was great. Would love to have the opportunity to come back another time. Very relaxing!

From the guestbook in our condo: Mahalo for everything! We enjoyed our stay very much. The weather in Kona was pretty overcast and rainy, so we headed to Hapuna Beach for sun! Last couple of days were beautiful. Found great beach the last day - across from veterans' cemetary - beautiful! Celebrated our 30th anniversary - Wow how time flies! God Bless! P.S. Bistro Cafe - great for dinner. Down on the waterfront! Lava Java Island Waffles to die for!

From the guestbook in our condo: Thank you for renting your condo to us. We enjoyed everyday here. We were sorry we only had it for 6 days. If we come back to the Big Island, we would for sure stay here. The pool area is great. The nicest thing was simply walking onto the lanai and having the ocean right there. We saw dolphins, turtles and whales right from the lanai. Local fisherman would throw their nets in the ocean to catch fish. What an interesting technique. Snorkeling at Captain Cook's monument & kayaking to get there is definitely worth it. Try poke at Splashers. Yum. They make great hamburgers as well. Mahalo.

FROM THE OWNERS! We got stuck in paradise! There was a terrible snow storm in the Midwest and our flight was cancelled and the flights were full - so we spent four days in a suite in the Hilton Waikoloa because we had guests in our condo! We replaced the above-the-stove microwave this trip. Enjoy paradise!

From our guestbook in the condo: The condo was very nice! We stayed for the entire month of January, 2007. We liked the personal touches that made the place feel like home, the swim toys, the movies, the CDs & the art. We tried to see & do as much as possible in our month here. We had several groups of friends that came & stayed in the Kona Reef or nearby. That was nice We liked the bike/walking path that takes off from Lako & Hwy 11. We snorkeled at Kahalu'u (snorkel beach). It is by far the closest, best & easiest place. Lots of fish & turtles, easy entry & clear water. Parking lot often seems full but spaces clear quickly. We also snorkeled Capt. Cook (Kayaked across bay to snorkel spot) & "Two Step" near the City of Refuge off Hwy 160. Good snorkeling on north side of pier in town also. Other suggestions are spend a nite in Hilo. We went, no reservations, got a room at "Uncle Billys" Hotel. Lots to see in Hilo. Don't forget the University campus, Rainbow Falls & botanical gardens 5+ miles north of town. Best gardens we've seen. For sure go to the top of Mauna Kea to watch the sunset & see the 13 world-famous telescopes open just after sunset. We went with Mauna Kea Summit Adventures. They gave us arctic parkas & we needed them. Temperture way below freezing. Elevation at the top of the road 13,741. We learned a great deal about the island from the van driver as we headed up the mountain. We did Scuba diving at Jack's Diving Locker. They have a nice store, but only so-so boat & dives. I would try another operator next time. We rented a Harley for a day from the local dealer. We drove to Hilo & back. Got soaked but nice ride. If you like motorcycles, try it. All in all, this condo was perfect for home base to our adventures. We recommend it. You can't get much closer to the beach unless you just sleep on it.

The airconditioner went out while a guest was in the condo. Our on-Island management company was called by the guests and a new air conditioner was installed!

From the guestbook in our condo: I have stayed at the Kona Reef many times over the past 15 years, but this is the first time in your lovely unit. . What an incredible location - - and that gorgeous ocean in all her moods 20 ft. away! There is so much to do on the big island. The problem being how to fit it all in a week or so... Thanks for the suggestions in the front of the (guest)book... very helpful. We will return.

From the guestbook in our condo: Thanks for letting us stay at your condo. We had a lovely time. We especially enjoyed the oceanview & close proximity to Kona. For those of you new to the island, here are our suggestions: - Sunbathing on a nice SANDY beach - Hapuna - Boogie boarding - White Sands beach (just south of the condo) - definitely kayak AND snorkel by Capt. Cook monument (we recommend the following outfitter:Kealakekua Kayak & Dive in Capt. Cook, south on Hwy 11 by McD's 808-323-3121) - Kahahlu'u wasn't all it was cracked up to be - DON'T SWIM/SNORKEL W/YOUR CAR KEYS... - ...oops! We had a great time!
