Welcome to "NANTUCKET." If you are looking for a very clean, full sized home just a short stroll away from the world’s greatest beaches with a ton of privacy that is designed for total relaxation, you have found it here. This well maintained, three bedroom, two full bath home is located in The Plantation, an exclusive gated community on beautiful St. George Island. The home is decorated in a nicely blended theme of tropical and nautical, to instill a relaxed, comfortable feeling of Florida and Nantucket Island.
The profesionally designed and installed tropical landscaping will have you in your own little island paradise, as the house is surrounded by groups of tall palm trees, flowering plants, and native Florida flora. The home conveniently adjoins a private sandy walking path to the beach, and is surrounded by several acres of undisturbed natural beach vegetation, making it ideal for plant lovers and birdwatchers alike. We provide you with a level of privacy that is hard to find anywhere else on the island.
This home features a true open floor plan with real hardwood floors throughout. The floor plan is very spacious, with a large open living area with vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows looking out to the large deck and beyond. The living area features very new, comfortable furniture, a large television, awesome stereo system and cable TV. If you are busy in the kitchen, you are still part of the fun as the kitchen is open to the living area as well.
The tiled baths are convenient, with one being located off the living area and the other in the master suite. Two guest bedrooms are located at the far end of the house, away from the master.
The large sundeck is equipped for ultimate relaxation and sun worshipping. If the deck gets too hot, simply take a break and relax in the palm tree shaded hammock or in one of the Adirondack beach chairs downstairs. The very private outdoor hot and cold shower is great after a day at the pool or beach, or just for cooling off. Covered parking is available directly under the house for two cars or a car and a boat.
If you are looking for a peaceful and private home very close to the beach, this is it! The white sand beaches of St. George Island are well known to be among the best in the state and being within St. George Plantation assures you that there will be no crowds. Within the Plantation you will find the Gulf of Mexico, Apalachicola Bay and Bob Sikes Cut, the gateway to the Gulf of Mexico. Nantucket is just a two or three minute stroll from the beach via paved culdasac or private beach path. While the nearby beachfront homes have taken our view, most of the lots surrounding Nantucket have never been developed and remain in their natural, beautiful, low beachside vegetation. Sit on the deck and listen to the waves, and enjoy the birds and butterflies all around.
Apalachicola Bay offers wonderful boating and fishing opportunities, as well as being known as the best oyster grounds in the world. Bob Sikes Cut separates St. George Island from Little St. George Island, an uninhabited natural island just a short boat ride away. From ‘The Cut’ you will witness the most incredible sunsets in Florida as you watch the shrimp boats returning from a long day in the Gulf.
At the far end of the island, just a short drive away, you will find St. George Island State Park, with its beautiful beaches, white sand dunes and fishing flats.

- Shelling on the beaches, oystering on the bay, Dolphin watching and a beautiful state park are all part of St. George Island! The historic lighthouse is in a county park on the island and you can climb the steps to the top for a panoramic view of the island, the Gulf of Mexico and Appalachicola Bay. Four wheel drive vehicles are permitted beyond the paved roads in the State Park (special permit required) for an adventure through beautiful white sand dunes to a great fishing spot. There is no shortage of things to do!

St. George Island is a great family vacaion destination within reasonable driving distance from all over the southeastern USA. The white sand beaches and local seafood industry make it the perfect place to relax without all the bright lights and amusement parks & piers often associated with vacation spots. Boat rentals, fishing, mopeds,bikes, restaurants and great scenic attractions make it a relaxing yet fun experience. Apalachicola is a great small city to visit, with much local history, Victorian homes, and great shopping for the ladies in the unique small shops. Staying at The Nantucket inside the gates of the Plantation makes for an additional rewarding experience, with the natural preserved beauty of the Plantation, its uncrowded beaches, and additional ammnities at your fingertips. We see many returning vacationers each year

The Unique Benefits at this House
While staying at The Nantucket, you will be just a stone's throw from the beach, a short drive or bike ride from the large Plantation pool, tennis courts, or private landing strip for the very occasional visitor coming by small private plane, a site to see if you are so fortunate to witness the small craft coming in from over the ocean. A sunset viewed from Bob Sike's Cut, a passage that was formed separating St. George Island from Little St. George Island for the benefit of the large shrimp boats. You will see them, passing from the Bay to the Gulf and returning after a day of shrimping. Here is where you will find the best fishing on the island, all within the private community of the Plantation.

We enjoyed the house and its location so close to the beach! The home was very clean, comfortable, and well appointed. Nicely furnished and a great theme for a beach house. We chose this home based on a recommendation from friends who have stayed there twice in the past, and could not have been more pleased with their advice. A little piece of paradise and a great value. Thanks!

We booked for seven nights but left after four. Could be an OK place but right now it is in dire need of a substantial renovation, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. Kitchenware has long exceeded its' useful life and needs to be replaced. Bedding too needs upgrade and screens on windows (half of the windows are in need of repair) have bug friendly holes. Deck furniture needs upgrade/replacement. In our opinion, not a good value in its current condition.
Owner response:I am sorry your cat was not used to traveling and became ill, prompting your early departure, but I did not consider this as a valid reason to refund half of your rental. Sorry. I am also sorry you chose this as a reason to write such an unfavorable review. Window screens were replaced last spring, with the exception of three high windows; 2 of the 17 windows in the house slip back down when opened, but you have 15 others and 2 doors to choose from if you want to turn the A/C off and catch a breeze. Both baths were re-tiled within the last six years, bedding is recent (first comment ever). After trying everything, we have found that in this beach environment plastic chairs on the deck are the best way to go (outdoor furnishings get blown around and the salt air takes its toll very quickly on metal and fabric). The kitchen cabinets and formica counter surfaces are clean and original to the house, appliances are recent and we replace pots,pans, and utensils each spring as necessary, so undoubtedly certain items may be in line for a replacement coming up. In general, your low bid offer and subsequent early departure made for an awkward situation this time. May your future travels be better, and your expectations be reasonable. Dave

Just returned from staying at Nantucket. We loved the home and the isalnd. It was our first visit and it was amazing! I've never left so relaxed. Loved going to the beach every morning and swimming for hours, watching dolphins, etc. My only suggestion would be to add a screened in porch to the deck. There were tons of mosqitos outside the home so you couldn't spend any time outside unless you were at the beach or in town. Otherwise, perfect! **BJ's pizza is the best so if you go you have to get their pizza! I'll miss it so much!!

We would like to add a note to your "beach journal.' The entire week was so relaxing. Your home is lovely, well appointed, and very comfortable. It was a pleasure to stay here. What a comfortable and attractive home! We have vacationed several times at St. George but have found your home to be just perfect for our family, with regards to the close proximity to both the beach and bay.
