Santorini is known as the most beautiful island of Greece, for its amazing landscape of the Caldera bay overlooking the volcano and the deep blue sea. Santorini is the island linked with the legend of the lost Atlantis, and truly once you are there you forget time goes by.
Blue and white are the main colors of Santorini (Thira in Greek), perpetual blue of the sea and the sky and sparkling white of the houses and churches, but in between these 2 colors you have the black sand beaches, the red and purple of the rocks, the red of the Santorini cherry tomatoes, the green of the vineyards and the brown of the donkeys... A real paradise on earth.
Our House is a traditional Santorini house based in Finikia a typical village adjacent to the bigger village of OIA (second largest at the north tip of the island, famous for its gorgeous sunsets).
Right in the middle of the village, viewing the church with its proud palm tree, with sea and country landscapes at site, the house has a Patio with chairs and table which enables you to take your meals outdoors watching the view, laying in the sun and relaxing.
The house is dated back to 1866 and it has been renewed as an adorable traditional Santorini House. My parents (both Italian) bought this house on their honeymoon in 1978 and ever since then we have gone every year and we love it more and more each time.
In the 700 square feet house you have 1 double bed and 3 single beds: 2 for adults and 1 for a child. Then you have a bathroom, a living/dining room and a kitchenette. There’s also one more shower and bathroom in the patio.
Being in the Finikia house you have at the same time the privilege of living the real Greek Santorini experience, with local friendly neighbors, in a charming village with nice walks to the beaches and country sides, and yet you are only 5 minutes from the OIA village, its restaurants and bars, its beautiful boutiques, the supermarkets, post office bakery etc. in other words: you have all the advantages.
5 minutes from the house you can rent a motorbike or a car and tour around the island, discover its black sand beaches, the village of Thira, ancient Thira and Akrotiri archeological sites, the Monastery and Pyrgos village on the impressive mountain. You can also go scuba-diving or horse-riding. Off course, tours by boats are possible, you can discover other near by islands, including going to visit the Volcano "Nea Kammeni" in front of Santorini and its hot springs waters.
Restaurants are really good, especially the small traditional tavernas with fresh grilled octopus and fish, with Greek salads and tzaziki etc. Usually they are placed in beautiful sites, either in front of the sea, on the beaches or in villages on top of the mountains. The common thing is that you could stay there forever... because time never goes by...as you are linked to eternity... to heaven and you just feel so so so good!
