This delightful mountain retreat, located on 19.3 acres in Leatherwood Mountains (a gated equestrian development-zipcode is Ferguson, but is actually about 10 miles away), is a perfect place for a romantic getaway or a special family gathering. Our home is very spacious and beautifully decorated with BobTimberlake and Charleston Forge furniture mixed with antiques and oriental rugs. Every room has a view of Grandfather mountain and the view is a 180' view of the Blue Ridge mountains.
Each of the three bedrooms has its own private bath (two of the baths have jetted tubs-the master bath has a separate shower, also). Two of the bedrooms (including the King Master suite and a Queen-size bedroom) and the loft with a Queen-size sofa bed are on the second floor. The Master suite even has a gas fireplace. There is a third bedroom on the first floor with a Queen-size bed.
The Great room has a 24-foot Tennessee fieldstone wood-burning fireplace and triple windows and doors to take advantage of the view. The dining room has seating for 8 and a bar with seating for 4. The kitchen with beautiful granite countertops is equipped for the gourmet cook with double ovens, a gas cooktop, a side by side refrigerator with ice and water dispensers, Kitchenaid stand mixer, coffee grinder, and many other amenities too numerous to mention. Outside there is a screened porch with a country swing and a dining table with seating for four and a 12X48 deck with a 20X20 step-down deck with a six-person Jacuzzi overlooking the mountains.

A Beautiful Home, a Delightful Vacation

I cannot say enough about this home. It exceeded all of our expectations! My wife and I stayed for a week, along with our adult daughter, our son and daughter-in-law, and our Yellow Lab. The home was furnished with everything we could possibly need, and everything from appliances to kitchen accessories was high-end. We found everything as described in the publicity for the home, even exceeding the descriptions in most cases. Each bedroom had its own bathroom, which was important to us. The back deck overlooking Grandfather Mountain was always occupied and the outdoor spa on the deck was a great way to relax at the end of the day. The common rooms are large enough for everyone to be together comfortably, yet there are also a number of places throughout the home for persons to have their own space. That was important for five adults spending the week together. We took advantage of horseback riding in the subdivision. Our son fished both in the subdivision ponds and across the highway in the creek. We drove into Blowing Rock and Boone a couple of days, which was a long drive (45 minutes) but worth the effort. We also hooked up with the Blue Ridge Parkway in Blowing Rock, which took us to hiking at Linville Falls, shopping at the Moses Cone Craft Center, and fishing/canoing at Julian Price Lake. We especially enjoyed the numerous roadside fruit and vegetable stands just south of Blowing Rock. All sorts of eating and entertainment options were available in Blowing Rock and Boone. I would suggest being stocked up on groceries and necessary supplies before arriving at the house. There are no stores "just around the corner." The owners were extremely attentive to us, both beforehand and during the week . . . without being intrusive. They seemed genuinely glad to share their home with us. If we are in the North Carolina High Country again, we would gladly stay here. We highly recommend it!

I reserved this house for the Merlefest Music Festival weekend, 2011. The house is fabulous and the only reason that I rate it four, instead of five, stars is to emphasize that I suspect that most interested parties may want to stay at a place that "is closer to things." However, if you're looking to really "Get Away" then this is a 5-star spot because the level of isolation and beauty is tremendous. The owner's notes mention "The kitchen with beautiful granite countertops is equipped for the gourmet cook with double ovens, a gas cooktop, a side by side refrigerator with ice and water dispensers, Kitchenaid stand mixer, coffee grinder, and many other amenities too numerous to mention. " And there is no exaggeration here. I typically have a "kitchen set" of utensils that I bring to rental homes because you never really know what you'll find in their kitchens but most folks would find this kitchen and its equipment and its utensils to be an upgrade of their own. And this is a good thing because my recommendation would be to do your shopping and bring your food with you. And then camp out at this superb house and fix whatever meals and desserts and mixed drinks you can imagine. I'll make no comments about the house and its furnishings other than to say that the owner's notes are no exaggeration, not in the least. Beds, mattresses, furniture, heck even the outdoor furniture is all top-notch. Easy parking for multiple cars; the house's "nearest neighbor home" might be 500 yards or it might be a half mile. Regardless, you'll not see or hear the neighbors. We had no need to run/use the air conditioning because of the dates of our stay; same thing for the gas and the regular fireplace. The home is inside of a large vacation property set, with equestrian resources available. Forested mountainous terrain. And these resources include an extensive set of multi-mile trails running over/around and through the property. We used several of these trails right out of our backyard but you can access them all within a 5-6 minute drive. Or hire the horses. So if slow-miles-per-hour access roads and "being far away from groceries, movie theatres, coffee shops, etc, etc" don't bother you, then you'll be more than impressed.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
