Kauai is absolutely awesome. This rental is on the west side of the island and very convenient to Waimea Canyon and hiking locations. The beach nearby is great for watching waves and sunsets as you look down the beach. The beach is not much of a beach for lounging or swimming - fishing and surfing was popular. This has nothing to do with the cottage - just commentary on the location. As a qualifier, we usually stay in VRBO properties when we travel. The Wind and Waves cottage is the first one we have ever felt was below par. The owner is very nice and hopefully these comments will help get them back on track. Upgrades are needed or the advertisement needs to be amended. WiFi access was very limited and only available at a few locations in the cottage or unavailable entirely. The music library was cassette tapes - no cassette player in the cottage. The video library was VHS copies of videos - not what you would expect with an advertisement of a video library. Two appliances, the stove and the coffee maker, need to be replaced. The stove had rusty handles and dirty drip shields. The coffee pot needed cleaning when we arrived and appeared to have been left on and cooked - it needs replacing - the rusted hot pad tells it all. All other appliances worked as expected. The ad suggests there was a garage available - there was not a garage available to park our rental car in which would have been nice so we didn't have to empty the car each night. Overall, the cottage deserves a good cleaning from top to bottom. The roof has had leaking problems and has peeled paint on the ceiling in several locations, cobwebs above the TV cabinet, the clock in the living room doesn't keep time (maybe needs a new battery), etc. Debbie, the host, was very pleasant and helpful and lives near the rental. The recreational equipment available was awesome - good job. Having (2) bikes to motor around Kekaha was very nice. The yard and landscaping is excellent and evident it is a passion for the owners. The area felt safe.
Owner response:Thank you so much for taking the time to review our rental. Based on the review we have made some changes and i'll run down the list for you. 1. Wifi access was improved by adding a new wifi connection. 2. Music and Video library have been removed from the website. 3. Garage has been removed from the website. 4. New coffee pot from Walmart. 5. Stove is clean and rust removed. 6. The house keeper is coming in today for a Spring cleaning. 7. New living room clock. 8. Three rooms newly painted. 9. New flat screen TV.

Take in the beauty of Kauai with the locals! This is the experience we wanted and we would not have had it if we stayed in one of the crowded hotels. Instead we choose to stay here at the Kauai Wind and Waves vacation rental. Your rental opened the door to the true Kauai experience. After an awesome day of paddle boarding we came back to the rental, opened the windows and the wonderful trade winds cooled down the cute cottage while we cooked in your wide open kitchen. We love to golf, so we golfed with the locals at a cute 9 hole course for just $26.00! The course was beautiful, the people friendly and the holes were long, so you could actually drive the ball. In the mornings the roosters greeted us along with Blue, a beautiful Siamese cat and her two canine friends Gidget and Bandit; we truly felt like we were at home. Opening the French doors and listening to our own private waterfall while grilling our fresh catch of the day on the BBQ. It was amazing!!! Whatever you do don’t forget to grab a glass of wine, or a beverage of your choice, and take a stroll down the block to the beach for an incredible West Side sunset. If you truly want an epic day take a cruise on the Liko Kauai Cruise to the Napali Coast! We will never forget the experience of seeing whales, dolphins, turtles and of course the beautiful Napali Coast all in one cruise trip. Thank you for providing us with the local experience! 7/4/08 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Liko Kauai Vacation Rental. The house was spacious, clean and furnished with comfortable island-style amenities. The yard is beautifully landscaped as well with tropical foliage and even a fishpond and fountain off the lanai. We especially enjoyed the quiet, laid-back atmosphere of the neighborhood and the west side of the island and would love to come back! Mahalo for 2 wonderful weeks in Paradise!

Absolutely wonderful! An old style Hawaiian country home, designed to take advantage of cool tradewinds without air conditioning. Spacious and well furnished. The fully equipped kitchen even included a coffee grinder for our freshly ground Kaua`i coffee. Very quiet neighborhood, definitely NOT for late night parties...just the way we like it. Best beach on Kaua`i is just a couple of blocks away. The owners are very special people. We sincerely look forward to our next visit to Liko Kaua`i Vacation Rental.
