We stayed in the boathouse for almost 5 weeks - and we loved it. The house was so nice, the interieur lovely, kitchen perfect, bed comfertable. Everything was clean and wellmaintained. There were lots of towels and everything we needed, and the property was accurate as listed on vrbo´s homepage. The owners, Darcelle and Mike were so friendly. They did everything they could to make our holyday perfect. It is a bit windy on the eastcoast, but it is beautiful up there with turtles wright outside your windows. Once again - we loved staying in the boathouse.

We just stayed at the boathouse for our first visit to Hawaii on Oahu. The boathouse exceded our expectations and was very romantic, had everything we needed, and was very nicely decorated. It was great to have snorkel gear and a washer/dryer! Darcelle was wonderful and helped us with anything that we needed. The sunrise views each morning were perfect and the ocean right outside was very relaxing. We would definately stay here again if we ever make it back to HI!

When we travel we like to visit the tourist-y places, not stay in them. So when we found this cottage we were thrilled! It is perfect for a couple, you will have everything you need at your disposal, including the best views of the ocean and mountains! We can't describe how relaxing it was to sit out on the deck at sunrise or sunset, feel the ocean breezes, and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. This cottage is for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu/Waikiki. The owner Darcelle was wonderful and most gracious in answering any questions we had. Whenever our next trip to Oahu will be, we'll stay here again in a heartbeat! Mahalo Darcelle and we look forward to seeing you again!

We stayed here for 8 nights on our honeymoon and what a perfect place to stay! It was exactly as advertised. We had fun exploring the beach in front of the cottage when the tide was low, looking at the tide pools full of fish, crabs, sea cucumbers and more. This was a nice quiet place to stay, close to the supermarket and several local places to eat, like the Hukilau Cafe. We were close to the North Shore and Turtle Bay Resort and about an hour from Honolulu and Waikiki. From driving the traffic in Honolulu, we were very glad we picked this lovely quiet location and not somewhere in Honolulu. The snorkeling available from this location is wonderful. Thanks again for a wonderful time.

We had a great stay at the Boathouse during our visit to Oahu Dec. 4-9, 2010. Darcelle, Mike, and Summer made us feel like ohana by visiting us and helping us to plan our visit and meals. The location is perfect, away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki but convenient to shopping and restaurants, and to the sights on the North Shore. My wife loved to listen to the waves which would lull us off to sleep each night as they crashed against the seawall. The Boathouse was the perfect size for us and made our Oahu vacation special. We would definitely stay here again. Mahalo Darcelle and Mike, and Summer too!

My wife and I stayed 2 weeks on the Island, the first in the Boathouse and the second at the Sheraton Waikiki. If we could have changed things we would have spent both weeks at the Boathouse. It was a perfect place for relaxing and spending time with each other. The sunrises were worth waking up for! The location made experiencing the North Shore and the Windward Side a very memorable experience. Thank you and we plan to come back again, hopefully soon.

My husband and I stayed her for our 5th wedding aniversery. The discription can not discribe what a great place this is. It is so true that if the bedroom window is open, you will get sprayed. Very close to shopping, beaches, the Polynisan center. I never felt more at home and relaxed ever. Would love to go back.
Owner response:Aloha Sandra & Andrew...it was such a pleasure to have you stay at our cozy boathouse. The method in which you choose your vacation destinations will always bring a smile to my face. :-) We would love to have you stay again at our little boathouse by the sea. This is the second time we have stayed at Darcelle and Mike's wonderful rental in Hauula and I know it won't be the last. This time we rented both 2 bedroom/2 bath home and the boathouse. It is not only the rentals that are welcoming, but the hospitality and sincere wish to make our stay memorable and memorable it was. Clean and comfortable, everything you need, beautiful view right outside on the deck .... sunrise, sunset, turtles bobbing their heads, glistening ocean, the sounds of rain and the islands winds.... Pull out the BBQ and put on some steak or oysters. Truly have a wonderful night's sleep while you listen to the ocean sing. All this away from the crowds of Waikiki. The North Shore is beautiful. Just driving to and from the rental you take in wonderful scenery: magnificent beaches, lush tropical plants and foliage, gorgeous mountains, many, many local eateries to enjoy. Each day, something new to experience. Don't miss the Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings in Haleiwa. You will find locally grown fruits, vegetables, coffee, sea salt, etc., purchase delicious foods and find beautiful treasures created by local artists'. These are the memories you want to keep in your heart of the beautiful North Shore, the true feel of the Hawaiian islands. We love the North Shore and would not consider staying anywhere else. If you are looking for that perfect spot and want to experience the Aloha spirit, call Darcelle and Mike. I highly recommend this rental and all it has to offer you for a memorable vacation. Again.... perfection.
Owner response:Margie & Tom it was wonderful to have you stay with us again. We enjoyed meeting your beautiful family. We are glad you enjoyed our quiet little side of the island and we look forward to your next visit.

My husband and I stayed at the boathouse cottage from 3/25-3/31 and had a wonderful time! The cottage was clean, comfortable and the perfect size for two people. It is located on the breathtakingly beautiful windward side of the island which was our absolute favorite scenery on Oahu. Instead of staying in a stuffy hotel, we were able to take walks every morning exploring the beach. We were able to watch the sea turtles from our own private patio and even did some fishing with the pole and bait (octopus) that Darcelle provided for us. Darcelle is such a gem! We couldn't have asked for her to be more helpful and accomidating. She had such great ideas for us and was a pleasure to talk with. I also have to give a shout out to the wonderful people at Papa Ole's just a few blocks from the cottage. They have the most delicious mahi mahi burgers and garlic shrimp! Everyone was so welcoming and really made you feel at home. We loved our stay at the cottage and on Oahu. I would go back again in a heartbeat, and have recommended it as the perfect place for my parents to stay whenever they go. I miss Hawaii, and waking up to the bright sunshine, the smell of flowers, and the sound of the waves. Thank you again Darcelle,

Right on the ocean with easy drives to groceries, beaches, walks. Clean and comfortable. Look forward to returning!

My husband and I spent a week at the boathouse and had an amazing time. There are so many things to do and so close! We would highly recommend stopping at Ted's bakery and gettting ther donuts! yum! It was great to just hop over the wall and explore the beach covered w/ little sea shells, crabs and we even had turtles hanging out right in front of the house. Darcelle was so nice and helped us out so much, she is super nice and makes you feel right at home. The sunrises are the cherry on top! Highly reccomend if you are wanting to relax and enjoy the real Hawaii.

Staying at Mike and Darcelles boathouse made for a relaxing and amazing trip to Oahu. Our stay on the island started off a little rocky, moving from place to place, but when we finally settled in the boathouse it was the trip of a lifetime from there on out. Darcelle and Mike cattered to all of our needs and then some. The boathouse was clean, cozy, romantic, and most importantly tranquil. The sound of the ocean will ease you into a deep sleep that is like no other. No need to go far for snorkeling as you can jump over the one wall seperating you and a ocean filled with beautiful reef and many tropical fish, which you can explore using the snorkel equipement Darcelle and Mike have left for you to use. The boathouses serene enviornement as well as Darcelle and Mikes warmth and hospitality made for an amazing and unforgettable stay on the island. We are looking foward to coming back soon.

We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Boathouse. We were looking for something quite, peaceful and right on the water to celebrate our 30th anniversary. The Boathouse was perfect for the two of us. We loved having our coffee in the morning and watching the sunrise. The turtles swimming back and forth were really neat to see. We went snorkling at Shark's Bay several times and it was beautiful. We loved feeling the ocean spray at night as we lay in bed. The boathouse was very clean and comfortable. The welcome letter, nuts and wine were a nice surprise. We look forward to coming again with our family and renting both houses.

My friends and I rented the Cottage and the Boathouse the week of August 13-18. Darcelle's place was amazing and definitely a perfect getaway from the busy life of Waikiki. The house is literally right by the water and at low tide you can even walk out to the open see and the water will literally be at your ankles. Everything is near by and everything you need is in the house. We used the boogie boards and fins that she had when we went to North Shore. My friends and I are all having Hawaii withdrawals and miss the bright stars we see at night and the sound of the waves and sunrise in the morning when we wake up. Thanks again Darcelle. We also checked out the Hukilau Cafe nearby that she recommended and I give it a two thumbs up for food and setting.

JUNE 13-19,2009 We spent our 30th anniversary at the Boathouse, we couldn't have picked a better spot to stay. It was a very private and welcoming place to return to at the end of our many island adventures. We really enjoyed listening and feeling the spray of the waves at night. Early mornings spent watching the turtles swim just outside the windows. How about Papa Ole's great breakfast, and the great people that run it! The Boathouse was just what we had hoped it would be. We called Darcelle just two days before we were flying over for business and a few extra days of fun. We're VRBO vacation owners ourselves in Florida. Darcelle answered the phone and was able to squeeze us in last minute. We got just what we wanted... a nice, clean, casual place right on the water, away from the masses of people in Honolulu. We were able to explore up and down the coast easily and spend time on the North Shore. We even did some serious boogie boarding with the locals on a beach about 1/4 mile from her place...and also ate some of the hottest shrimp i've ever had in my life!! We had a great time and would stay again.

Hearing the ocean every night was great(you do have to close the windows, got splashed one night, felt good actually). Darcelle is a great host, who will answer any question you may have. Close to all the spots you want to see on the North Shore. Will stay again, no question.

Thank you Darcelle and Mike for a wonderful stay in a most beautiful place. About the only requirements we had when we came to Oahu was that it be quiet and that we could hear and see the ocean at all times. Your boathouse met this and much more. You folks are wonderful hosts and this place was perfect. After reading all the other comments there is not much more to add, except to say that we wholeheartedly agree! I know that when we come back this place will be at the top of our list for a place to stay, but we will surely have to plan ahead. The roar of the ocean is just fantastic along with the steady breezes makes for a wonderful night's sleep. Thanks again!

To all those looking for a a great experience on Oahu, this is it. Not only does the house have everything you will need but Darcelle is the absolute best at ideas and suggestions. She is better than any concierge I have ever used. Listen to her suggestions, they are wonderful. She goes above and beyond to help make your trip special. The home is located along the Eastern side of the island in a little town called Hauula. You're between the North Shore and Kaneohe. The views from your window are just beautiful. There are chairs outside to sit on and watch the sun rise. She has all towells, beach mats, boogie boards and ice chests for you to use. We will stay here again but next time we will probably use both houses!! Thank you again Darcelle, we had a wonderful time thanks to you!

VRBO Property #68291 - We split our time in Oahu staying 3 nights on the North Shore at the Boathouse, and 3 nights at a condo in Waikiki area. Being our first trip, we wanted to experience a little of everything. It worked well, but for any future trip we would probably just stay on the north shore - at Darcelle's cottage or boathouse. We were in the boathouse 3 nights. It is comfortable for 2 and clean, clean, clean. The location is just a few miles from the Polenesian Cultural Center. Darcelle kindly lent their GPS which she'd already coded for favorite restaurants, sightseeing, etc. It helped to make the most of our time. We appreciated the helpful, but non-intrusive manner of our host. Aloha! John and Linda

We have been fortunate enough to be able to stay in both of the properties listed (the cottage as well as the boat house) and were more than just pleased with both. The boat house was perfect for the two of us. And the cottage is awesome! Both properties are well appointed, very clean and comfortable. The cottage looks like a model home. YOu don't need to pack a lot - we over packed and ended up mailing some stuff home - because the washer and dryer are there for you to use - The picures on the web site do not do these homes justice. Darcelle and her husband are great hosts and represent the true "Aloha" spirit of the islands well. They are helpful but never intrusive! I grew up in the islands so when we come to visit I am looking for a place to call "home". I am not at all interested in the glitz and crowds of Waikiki. I want to relax and hear the ocean and experience home as an escape from the stresses of mainland life. These properties allowed me to do that. We have friends and family that we could stay with, but these homes allowed us to come and go as we pleased on our own time, without a schedule and without inconveniencing anyone. The homes are well equipped and are located in a friendly, quiet, safe neighborhood. Darcelle also provided boogie boards and snorkel equipment as well as water shoes and sunscreen! The ocean is literally steps away. We saw turtles grazing on the reef every morning while experiencing the most beautiful sunrises you will ever see. And, the sounds of the waves at night lull you to the best sleep you can imagine. Although the homes are located away from the crowds, everything we needed was conveniently located. Tamura's grocery store is within walking distance. They have reasonably priced food and other basics as well as a great selection of wine. L&L BBQ (mmm plate lunches), Domino's pizza, a seafood restraunt and a post office are within walking distance as well. When we started the process of looking for a home to stay in on our vacation, it was very overwhelming and a little scary not knowing exactly what we were getting for our money. But we struck gold with these homes - Darcelle called us personally and ther rest is history - what you see is what you get and more! In the future I refuse to stay anywhere else. Thanks Darcelle - it was the best birthday EVER! See you soon! Aloha, Carrie and Roy

Wow!! From the moment I walked up to the door I was amazed! I felt so welcomed by the Wine, Macadamia Nuts, Floral arrangement, and personal letter! Not to mention the incredible ocean and waves from every part of the cottage! Getting out of the shower: ocean; Bathroom:ocean, Kitchen: ocean; livingrm: ocean; Bed: ocean, walking to the front door OCEAN n Waves!! I highly recommend the crater above Sandys Beach, and Sea Life Park for the Sea Trek, feed & touch turtles and Manta Rays while underwater. Be sure to ask Darcelle about 'Sharks Cove'- I snorkeled/swam with the Turtles, trumpet fish, etc. yesterday!! So peaceful to just relax at the cottage- hardly anyone around! All an unforgettable vacation!! Would love to come again!! Mahalo and live Aloha!

A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of south Oahu and to get a taste of local Hawaiian 'laid back' culture. It is to close to all North Shore locations and only 45 minutes from Honolulu. Darcelle was a very gracious host and very accommodating. True to the description given, the cottage is right on the ocean and the trade winds were awesome! Overall we enjoyed our stay.

We were looking for ocean and solitude to celebrate our 30th anniversary. This rental more than met our expectations. Far from the bustle of Honolulu (but close enough for a night on the town if needed) the snorkeling , quiet beaches and slow pacing surround you in this small town. The unit is equipped with everything needed to nestle (or picnic out)in and is clean and crisp. Restaurants and stores are easily accessible. Darcelle is the ultimate in gracious hosting-available for questions but respectful of privacy. She has created this delightful gem of a haven. The sound of the crashing waves directly outside the window soothed the soul like nothing else. Highly recommended.

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay while vacationing on Oahu! The cottage is actually larger than you might guess from the pictures, and the water is literally on the other side of the sea wall. At high tide, the wind will push spray right into the house through the window screens! It was enormously relaxing to sit in an adirondack chair with a glass of wine and watch the waves roll in while the sun was setting. Everything about the cottage was good - the kitchenette area was well stocked, the bed comfortable, the water pressure in the shower good, the wifi reliable, and korean soap operas on the tv! What more could one ask for? Darcelle and Mike are friendly and entertaining, and are great hosts. Marley the dog from next door is a love, despite the occasional very faint barking ("I'm alive, dang it!"). I would go back again in a heartbeat, and recommend the cottage without reservation!

All the previous statements are true, so there is little to add. We stayed ten excellent days, and would emphasize the wonderful nature of Darcelle and how well the cottage is fitted out. Hau'ula is mainly a working class, Native Hawaiian village, and is many miles away, culturally and physically, from ResortLand. Perfectly real, with superb beaches close by. Loved the pets. We'll be back!

We stayed here in August and plan to stay here the next time we visit. This cottage was fantastic! It was the best location and very clean and cozy. We even found that we overpacked with all the things Darcelle provided - travel books, beach towels, shampoo, soap, and more. Also, thanks for the use of beach mats, boogie boards, and the washer/dryer. All the conveniences you we could need and want! Thanks again!

My new bride and I stayed here for our honeymoon and what a wonderful experience! Darcelle and Mike were the best host, whatever we needed we had. We will stay here every time we come to HI. Thank you Darcelle for making our stay one to remember! Hope to see you again soon.

Just returned from beautiful sunny Hawaii to snowy, snowy Alaska. Stayed 5 nights at this lovely quiet guest house. If getting away and seeing the country side of Oahu is what you want this it. The cottage is private and comfortable. Mike and Darcelle are perfect hosts. Pam & Reid, Juneau, AK

We had a wonderful stay here with just gorgeous views and wonderful access to the best beaches. The water splashed us at night that is how close we were, and we loved that it was just the perfect size. It had everything we needed and was conveniently located. We would recommend it to any couple looking for a little R&R with a view. Thanks Mike and Darcelle!

Unforgetable experience. Literally right at the ocean. Hear the waves as they lull you to sleep. Sometimes you even get ocean spray if you open the windows on that side. Marvelous hosts who leave you alone but are right next door if you need anything. Very clean, very peaceful. Great beaches nearby, and less than half an hour to the North Shore.

9/9/06 If you're considering this as your home away from home reserve it now. It's fantastic and it would be hard to imagine that anything can beat the beautiful views and location. We left the windows open at night to hear the waves but were pleasantly surprised to be very lightly splashed by the waves as we slept. On our last day there the sea turtles even popped up to say goodbye - as we hadn't seen any until then. What a wonderful ending to a great stay.
