Just 20 minutes southwest of Siena this exceptionally large house started life as a mediaeval castle and grew to become a Renaissance palace. The imposing house, whose halls echo with the decadence of times past, measures around 1000 square meter living space. It boasts its own enclosed park and panoramas that extend across the surrounding hills and villages. From its lookout tower the views are 360 degrees. The rear of the villa with its many windows faces the large private park and has a wonderful staircase dating back to the 18th century. A lawn is equipped with BBQ, tables, chairs and parasols. An above ground pool is located about 300 meter behind the house in the expansive natural park.
The entrance of the property is reached via the square of Sovicille: on the piazzetta an iron gate opens onto a small courtyard with arches and a staircase made of typical white travertine stone leads to the main level of the house (16 steps). The living quarters are laid out on the first two levels; on a third level there is an unfurnished watch tower. The furnishings adorn this spacious home. The property is furnished with a mixture of antiques including gold leaf finished Baroque pieces, family heirlooms and comfortable sofas. The 12 bedrooms are of various sizes and decor. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. Of the nine bedrooms on the second level, six have air-conditioning and eight have window screens. The most accessible bedrooms and bathrooms are on the main level and all others have a minimum of 44 steps. Several bedrooms look out onto the natural park. The kitchen is small for a home sleeping 24 people, but well equipped. Only a couple of people will be able to cook at one time. Many rooms overlook the property's park, the town of Sovicille and beyond to the rolling Montagnola countryside.
The villa is laid out as follows:
Main level: One large foyer, one living room with fireplace and doors to a small terrace, one living room with TV, steps to the park and large terrace shared with the restaurant, one large dining room, one small kitchen with stove top, oven, refrigerator and dishwasher, two bedrooms each with two single beds, one suite with one queen-size bed, sitting area and en suite bathroom with tub and hand shower, two baths with tub and hand shower.
Second level: One living room, one bedroom with two single beds, air conditioning, French balcony and en suite bathroom with tub and hand shower, three bedrooms each with a queen-size bed and en suite bathroom with tub and hand shower (one with air conditioning and another with air conditioning and ornamental fireplace), five bedrooms each with a queen-size bed and en suite bathroom with shower (three with air conditioning, on this level bedrooms without air conditioning have screened windows), one laundry room with washing machine and dryer.
Third level: one unfurnished lookout tower.
Parking is not available at this property. On-street parking can be found at a town parking area 150 meters away. There are steps to climb both inside and out of the villa. Children under 10 are not allowed. Mandatory maid service is provided three times per week for four hours each time and the charge is €16 per hour/€192 per week. (For groups up to 15 people only, maid service is provided two times per week for four hours each time and the charge is €128 per week.) Additional maid service may be arranged at the time of booking.
