US couple - in their 60's - first visit to Amsterdam

Excellent apartment - well-furnished - well stocked with food and beverages - wonderful canal views - in perhaps the best section of Amsterdam - Jordaan. Owner very helpful in offering assistance to first-time Amsterdam visitors - spent easily 30-45 minutes with us our first evening - helping us plan our vist - educating us about the extraordinary museums, concert halls, cafes and flowers of Amsterdam! Would highly recommend this apartment without any reservations whatsoever!!

Great Place - Nice View, Lots of Goodies Provided; Close to Nice Restaurants/market; Great Area

I stayed at the Marokko for 6 nights with my 20-year old daughter. We loved the apartment, lots of afternoon sun and great view of canal. We were lucky as the weather was nice for the first 4 days, and we had the windows open in the afternoon. We walked from train station with wheeled luggage and easily found the apartment. We were a little early, and left our bags until the maid finished cleaning. Came back and showered, and were very surprised when she came back with food (beer, wine, cheese, bread & lots of fruit, not to mention pastries, etc.). Very close to markets and real, real close to small butcher with lots of fresh fruit and Greek pastries. Many good restaurants/bars nearby and after seeing the rest of Amsterdam really appreciated this neighborhood. Alan was very helpful and easy to reach. We rented bikes a few days and locked them right in front of apartment on the canal, and also walked everywhere. Very well appointed place - had everything we needed - I was enthralled with the dishwasher attached to the stovetop - and it worked great. Also found great maps in the info provided, included one with bike trails. Didn't try the washer/dryer. Beds were a little lumpy (clearly someone heavier slept on one side), and the trip up the stairs with luggage was a little tough (the stairs are very steep). Not suited for elderly or those with disability/trouble getting around. But, overall highly recommended!

We just finished a four night stay at this lovely apartment in Amsterdam. Everything was perfect! The location, the furnishings, the view of the canal, the snacks, breakfast foods and cocktails, etc. We will definitely rent again!

Read the Reviews and Believe Them

Date of Stay: 10/23/11 Review Submitted: 11/11/11

My wife and I spent three great days in Amsterdam during the last week of October. Based on the very positive reviews we had read on the VRBO web site, we reserved the Marokko suite for our stay. The reviews were entirely accurate. From the cut flowers to the well-stocked pantry and fridge, and the ideal location, we found everything to be exactly as advertised. In addition, the apartment was conveniently located, spotlessly clean, very secure and more than comfortable. Allen helped us to settle in and made himself available in the event that we needed anything to make our stay enjoyable. Since no stone had been left unturned in that regard, we never did have to contact him. The owners did, however notice that we had mistakenly over-payed and they were quick to bring it to our attention and return the suplus cash. Although we manged quite nicely, be forewarned that this is a typical canal house and the stairs leading up to the suite are very steep. This could pose a problem for some, especially carrying large suitcases. If you are able-bodied, then this is an ideal place to stay while exploring this wonderful city. Read the reviews and feel safe in knowing that they are all true.

A modern, clean and comfortable apartment with a great view of the canal. Everything we needed was provided for our stay October 19, 2011-October 26, 2011. A fridge stocked with breakfast food, a lovely fruit platter, wine, etc. welcomed us. It is very close to excellent restaurants, tram and bus to central Amsterdam. We would highly recommend it. Mondriaan apartment was great for our family!

Date of Stay: 07/25/11 Review Submitted: 08/06/11

We had a great experience in the Mondriaan apartment. Loved the canal view! The apartment was extremely clean, comfortable and quiet. We really appreciated the breakfast and snack foods, laundry detergent, etc. in the apartment. The neighborhood was lovely. Some written info in the apartment on the nearby tram stops (tram numbers and stop locations) as well as check-out time and procedure would have been helpful. Having wireless was great, but it was sometimes difficult to get access or perhaps the connection was slow. Overall, a wonderful time for our family! Thank you.

Marnixkade Apartments: Comfort and Convenience and Steps from Everything!

Guest: Fred & Karen (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
Date of Stay: 06/28/11 Review Submitted: 07/18/11

My wife and I [mid-50's couple from Western Canada] stayed at the Marokko Apartment at Marnixkade for 16 days in July 2011. All of the previous comments left on the site by previous guests turned out to be 100% accurate and true of our experience. Booking was simple and straightforward and the e-mail instructions on how to find and access the apartment were flawless. As commented by others, we arrived in a beautiful and beautifully situated apartment overlooking the canal and found the fridge fully stocked with essentials and luxuries alike [from milk and eggs, to meat and cheese, Belgian Beer, red and white wine, bread, buns and cookies, fresh fruit and fresh flowers]. After 16 hours in transit this was truly nirvana: no hungry and tired travellers here scouring an unfamiliar neighborhood in search of food! Within minutes of arrival we were greeted by Allen Salo, a delightful and erudite host who orientated us to the apartment and the neighborhood and shared insights on language, culture, transportation and sights. And in reference to the nieghbourhood we are steps from Westestraat, the heart of this area of the Jordaan with multiple and excellent restaurants and cafes catering to all tastes, two grocery stores, bakery and gelatto shop, a book store with English language newspapers from around the world, and a first rate athletic and swim centre on the corner. We walked to everything [despite the Tram stop right on the corner] and were never more than an enjoyable 30 minute walk from any key site in central Amsterdam [the Dam, Central Train Station, major museums, Anne Frank House [10 minutes], and on and on]. I could not imagine a better located apartment for access. And when you return home, you are in the heart of a safe, clean, character neighborhood and a beautiful comfortable apartment with all amenties [washer, dryer, dishwasher, coffee maker and so on]. A superb location and a tastefully decorated apartment that was clean and comfortable. We met Bruce and Eelco briefly and Allen was always available and dropped in to see us the day before we left to assist with our departure plans and transportation. What more can I say: it was great! Thank you Allen, er Dank je weil!!!

Well situated in Jordan (near Ann Frank House) this appartment has a great view on the Singelgracht canal. Large windows with sun from 2Pm to 10PM at the end of June. Clean and modern with full kitchen. The bedroom in the back of the apt is comfortable and calm. Nice welcome gift with food, wine and beer included. The owner were open to new suggestions to improve our comfort (ex change the shower head within one day). A place to return in our future trip to this "cool" city. Robert and Céline from Canada

Date of Stay: 10/23/10 Review Submitted: 01/12/11

We stayed in this lovely appartment (Marokko) for just over a week at the end of October, 2010. When we arrived, we found the refrigerator fully stocked with wonderful snacks, lunch items, beer, juice, wine and more. It was very welcoming to check in and not feel the need to immediately go find a place to purchase these items or to get a meal. The appartment is suprisingly bright and cheery and a very comfortable place to relax after spending the day out exploring. The location is perfect. We prefered to be on the outer ring of the canals, in the edge of the Jordaan. The center, museums, botanical gardens, parks, and shops are all within an easy walk. We found a place to rent great custom bicycles just around the corner (Workcycles). A small grocery and assortment of resaurants are also quite close. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! This will definitely be my first choice for a future trip to Amsterdam.

Upon your arrival in this beautiful apartment you are greeted with flowers and a fridge filled with groceries, not to mention a couple of bottles of wine. The owner Bruce lives on the premises,as does Allen, who assists him in ensuring that all your needs are met. They are happy to provide you with recommendations on everything from restaurants to the unusual architecture of Amsterdam. The apartment is large, well furnished and in a great location close to restaurants and museums. Better still, you'll wake up each day to a marvellous view of the canal. There is nothing I would change about this acommodation. I have stayed in many apartments in Europe and nothing compares. Thia apartment deserves the highest recommendation.

We had the opportunity to stay in the Mondrian apartment and loved it! It is located in the Jordaan district, which is the most charming neighborhood in Amsterdam. The small streets are quiet and lined with cafes, shops, old buildings, walkers, and bikers. The apartment overlooks tree tops and a quiet canal. With a western facing view, sunlight is plentiful. The Mondrian is on the 3rd floor of the building. The staircases were narrow and a bit steep, but quite manageable; typical for an Amsterdam building. The living room is big and bright with a television and ipod adapter for music. There are several places to sit, for conversation or quiet reading. There is also a dinner table in the corner. Pocket doors with stained glass lead you to the kitchen, which was stocked with essential food items - cheese, bread, milk, wine, traditional dutch treats, and fruits. Just beyond the kitchen is the large bedroom. The bed is big and comfortable. The bathroom is newer, large, and has a tub/shower unit. There is also a nice washer/drier in the bathroom. I can't give this condo enough positive favor. It was truly perfect. Bruce was extremely friendly and offered some tips for places to go when we first arrived. I can't wait to go back to Amsterdam!

The apartment was great. We stayed in the Marokko for a week. It was large and comfortable with a great location. Near the center of Amsterdam but on the quiet outskirts. Easy to walk to everything but also close to tram and bus stops. The apartment came stocked with a wonderful assortment of basic food items, snacks, and even beer and wine. Bruce and Allen were great hosts and gave us plenty of information. We are definitely coming back to Amsterdam again and will stay here again.

Will definitely stay here again. If you consider yourself a traveler and not a tourist, this is the place. Bright, clean apartment with great, peaceful view out of the big bay windows facing the canal. Excellent location in a quiet residential part of town, felt like we had our own place in Amsterdam for a week. Washer/dryer and full kitchen a big plus. Great value as well...the apartment comes stocked with about 100+ euros worth of quality food/drink upon arrival. Great places to eat and drink within a short walk, and right next to the Marnixplein bus stop which can get you anywhere in no time. No problems having our 16 month old son there, 2 parks for him to play at within a 5 minute walk. Excellent bike rental shop nearby. Can't wait to return to this wonderful city and wonderful hospitality of the owners of the Marnixkade Canalview Apartments.

Our week's stay in the Mondriaan was quite pleasant! The location is very convenient and also very pretty. There are many thoughtful touches that make staying in the apartment (such as good storage and well-placed hooks and a guest umbrella and many more) very comfortable. We particularly enjoyed watching a heron dive- bombing the local (pet?) stork on the canal through the front windows. The stork was never in any danger of being hit!

We stayed in the Mondriaan apartment for several nights around New Year's Eve of 2009. We could not have been more pleased with the comfort and overall quality of the apartment. We stayed in the Marokko apartment in 2006, and we'll definitiely be returning to the Marnixcade Canalview Apartments again in the future. These two apartments have so much going for them: They're very spacious; they're off a quiet canalside street; they're a short stroll from any number of terrific restaurants and neighborhood bars; and everything in both apartments is in perfect working order. The small market just around the corner is a terrific convenience. We even purchased some marinated chicken and lamb from there, which we prepared in our apartment's well-equipped kitchen. It was a most enjoyable "at home" meal. Bruce and Eelco are extremely thoughtful hosts who take the extra steps to ensure that their guests are content and comfortable. Alan also deserves a special mention for his excellent recommendations on restaurants and places of interest (The House of Bols was a blast!) We've truly found our home away from home in one of our very favorite cities on the planet. We're already discussing our next visit to Amsterdam, and our next stay at Bruce and Eelco's wonderful apartments.

We just returned from a wonderful holiday in Amsterdam where we stayed in the beautiful Mondriaan Apartment. The apartment was well equipped, spacious, with a lovely view over a canel directly in front of the apartment. The location was perfect, an easy 15 minute walk from the train station and within minutes to some great restaurants and markets. All of Amsterdam is readily available to explore from the ideal location of the property. There is also a great park to walk/jog in, also within a 10 minute walk. We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival as the apartment was stocked with all kinds of welcome foods, including wine, juice, milk, breakfast snacks, chocolates, and a big piece of fresh Dutch cheese! Our host Allan was great and very helpful and informative. Highly recommended! Mike and Terrie, Boston, USA.

We spent the first week of September at this apartment and found it to be perfect for our vacation. The apartment was very comfortable and the king size bed was excellent. The wireless Internet connection and the TV with English channels (including CNN)were a big plus. The owners have gone a long way to make things easier to newcommers to Amsterdam by providing a book that includes their favorite restaurants. Being in the Jordan district provided a wide variety of excellent restaurants within walking distance. Access to public transportation was 1/2 block away. The owners stocked the apartment with food and beverages and that was another big plus. I highly recommend this very quiet apartment to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

I recently spent a week in August in Amsterdam in this apartment. The demeanor of the place, and I'm a developer and student of "place" is very good. So good, I spent a lot of time just getting a much needed rest and reading. I fell in love with the area and the apartment and have been going to Amsterdam for 20 years. It just doesn't get much better. The food waiting there sustained us when we were too tired to go out. Lot's of thought has gone into making this a home away from home and that's what it was to me and my friends who visited.

We have been to Amsterdam several times. On previous trips we have stayed in hotels. This time, for a six week stay we wanted to actually live in the city that we enjoy so much.Upon arrival, we followed the excellent directions & walked from Central Station to the apartment. This would be a path that became very familiar and one we walked many times. The apartment lived up to our expectations & went beyond. The fresh bouquet of tulips that greeted us upon arrival was gorgeous. The refrigerator was well stocked – everything from wine to snacks to enough food to put together a meal or two. It was so nice to know we did not have to go to a market immediately. In fact we stayed put for about twenty four hours before venturing out. For the first five weeks of our stay, we were in the Marokko apartment. It has a unique charm & is very appealing. The view of the canal and beyond was mesmerizing. Some days we just wanted to watch out the windows. The final week we were up one level to the Mondriaan apartment. It too is a lovely place to stay with everything we wanted at our disposal. This apartment is centrally located and allowed us to walk to any destination in the city. We had a variety of restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood & beyond. We chose most often to stay in at night. Shopping for our food every day at the local markets and bakeries was a wonderful experience. The street markets around the city are not to be missed. The Jordaan has two that occur every week, just a few minutes from the apartment. And finally, a word about our hosts. We had emailed Bruce & Allan several times prior to our arrival. They patiently responded to all of the questions I asked. Is there a hair dryer? (yes), can I sent a box via Fed Ex to the building (yes) and any number of other silly questions you think of when planning an extended visit. Spending time with Allan and getting to know him was a wonderful experience. He is charming, smart, and fun to be around & many hours were spent engrossed in conversations with him. When we met Bruce, I felt like I already knew him. He made every effort to ensure that our accommodations were had lived up to our expectations. We would highly recommend the Marnixkade Canal View apartments to anyone. In fact we did just that, giving a flight attendant the information on our way home. We will be back as soon as we can & next time we hope to stay for several months.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the lovely Maroko Apartment. We were warmly welcomed with fresh flowers, a gift basket of delicious treats. In the kitchen we found breakfast makings of Dutch cheeses, meats, breads and morning delights. It felt as if someone knew just what we liked! The collection of books on the shelves added a special touch to our relaxing moments "at home". Bruce and Allen were extremely helpful in answering our questions before we arrived and were most accommodating while we were staying in one of the most wonderful cities in the world. We really enjoyed our trip to Amsterdam, and the apartment was wonderful. Allen was a great help and previous comments are right on track for this rental. We would have missed some great dining in the Marnixkade neighborhood if we had taken the hotel option for our 9 day trip. We loved the Old Amsterdam cheese in the fridge, and it was perfect to have all the provisions in the kitchen on our arrival. The apartment has lots of tourist books and information, it was invaluable. We will do this again.

I am not sure what we can add that has not already been said! We truly enjoyed our stay at the Canal View Apartments on Marnixkade. Bruce, and Allen were the perfect hosts; always helpful, but respectful of our privacy. We can recommend this apartment complex without reservation. We especially enjoyed the wine, and speciality foods of Holland. That is something that no hotel, that we are aware of provide in such quantity! We look forward to staying at Canal View Apartments during our next stay in Amsterdam. Thank goodness that our airport in CT now provide daily and direct flights! Peace, Rich and Erin

Well, everyone here already knows what lovely amenities are part of the Marnixkade rental (thank you for everything, before, during and after our stay, Bruce and Allen!), so I'll share some of the discoveries we made while staying there: We REALLY enjoyed our stay at Marnixkade -- felt right at home. We also found the neighborhood and folks to be really friendly; one day a very hip local guy actually walked us all the way down to the grocery shop. So we spent our days making breakfast and watching the rain, the passing clouds and the birds in the treetops out those gorgeous stained glass windows; then we'd go for a stroll and maybe have a cocktail somewhere. Then back to the flat for dinner. We also really liked that little tapas place down the street: Duende Dos. Had a great meal of calamari, lamb chops, cured ham and aged cheese on greens with walnut oil and some good cava. Their chocolate mousse is truly sublime... also found my favorite cheese shop which I visit every time I'm in your city: De Kaaskamer (Runstraat 7). They're really into the Slow Food Movement and so am I -- one of my big marketing clients is Rogue Creamery, which makes some of the world's finest blue cheeses right here in Oregon. Also a GREAT little design store for flatware and kitchen items: Vivian Hann at Haarlemmerkijk 102. The owner herself will enthusiastically share history and stories about all her wares. We bought several darling little Italian tapas forks and will treasure them forever. See you next time around!

We had the most wonderful experience staying at the Marnixkade Canalview Apartments. This was our first trip to Europe, and we did not regret spending an entire 2 weeks getting to know Amsterdam. Upon arrival we had a fridge full of snacks and beers and wines to help us get settled in. It was the best location for setting out everyday on foot to explore the city and all it has to offer. Bruce and Allen made us feel welcomed, and Bruce even brought us homemade cookies, what a treat!. Gorgeous flowers were a touch of home I rarely get at home! From big fluffy comforters and pillows to dissuade us from getting out of bed, to information on how to get to where we wanted to go, or tidbits of information about what was happening in the city, the stay with Allen and Bruce made our vacation so memorable and so relaxing. A big thank you to them both! We will be back =) Brenda and John

This was the first time we,(me, my husband, and our 10 year old son) had stayed in a vacation apartment and we couldn't of asked more! Bruce, Eelco, and Alan were very helpful (even to the point of Bruce finding where there was a local juggling store for our son!) and knowledgable of the area. After traveling for a week and staying in hotels, it was very relaxing to arrive and have our own beautifully appointed "space", with a complete selection of food and beverages so that we could just relax. The information folder is very helpful, especially the restaurant reviews with their favorites and which ones are walking distance. The apartment is lovely, ideally located and we didn't want for anything. We will ABSOLUTELY recommend this to our friends and family and hope to return in the future. Thank you again, the Williams Family

A beautiful apartment in an ideal location with gracious hosts in a fantastic city; what's not to like? From all the extra touches that Bruce, Eelco, and Allen include (stocking food staples, flowers, maps, helpful information and general hospitality) to the comfortable and quiet environment, this was a most enjoyable experience indeed. We would highly recommend this option as an alternative to the usual hotel in a major city.

The apartment managed by Bruce and Eelco was just great. They were both very friendly and hospitable. They also were very helpful by providing us with a lot of time saving information about the city as well as making us feel very welcome at their apartment. The apartment itself was very clean, tidy and well organized. We couldn't believe the amount of food that was stocked in the fridge on our arrival and all the fresh fruit. The apartment's location was perfect. We were close enough to the center of town to walk everywhere but at night it was safe, quiet and peaceful, with the canal right outside below our window. The apartment was great, Bruce and Eelco and Allen were great, and our visit was that much better because of them. We'll be back.

We have nothing but positive things to say about the Marknixkade Canalview apartments. It was a charming place to get away. We travel a good bit, and always stay in similar flats. I have to say that this was one of our best experiences. The flat itself was lovely, and the extra efforts to welcome us were quite appreciated. We felt very much at home and well taken care of. Bruce, Eelco and Allen were quite helpful and pleasant. The location is excellent, as well. We highly recommend this flat! Jim and Susan

The apartment is centrally located. We stayed at the Mondriaan apartment for 4 nights and were impressed with the hospitality. The apartment was clean and tidy. There were flowers and food for our stay. The help provided by Allan was excellent. Anjit & Abhilasha London, UK

We spent 7 nights in the Mondriaan apartment and were delighted with our accommodations. The apartment itself was impeccable. In addition, there were flowers in the living room and a wonderfully stocked kitchen. The apartment is superbly located, giving easy access to Amsterdam's sites and several good restaurants. Finally, the help and kindness provided by Bruce, Eelco and Allan cannot be overstated. Richard and Joanne Ottawa, Canada

My husband and I stayed in the Marokko during the Christmas of 2006, and we were very pleased with the accommodations (sorry for being so late :)! Bruce and Eelco were very helpful in recommending restaurants in the area…Principe de Curtis, Zuid Zeeland for a wonderful Christmas dinner, to name a few. The apartment itself was warm and cozy during the cold, cold winter season and practically everything we needed was available to us in the unit. We loved that there was a small grocery/deli just behind the building with very friendly owners and great food. It was also nice to have the tram stops so close to the apartment, although walking about town in the crisp winter air was also rewarding. We will definitely come back to Amsterdam again – this time during Spring or Summer – and enjoy the sunshine and blooming flowers. We will, of course, contact you again, Bruce & Eelco, when the time comes!

We [2 couples] stayed in the Mondriaan and the newly finished unit upstairs in April 2007 and we absolutely loved it. There were lots of little touches that made the stay very enjoyable - wine and snacks when we arrived, recomended restaurants we would have never found on our own, and so on. Bruce and Eelco were very helpful, but not overbearing like other apartments/B&Bs we've stayed in. Staying in the apartment, overlooking the canal really gave us the experience of what it would be like to live in Amsterdam, needless to say we'll be back.

We loved the apartment and the view of the canal. It was comfortable, impeccably clean, and well-stocked with delicious and distinctive breakfast and snack treats. We liked learning about the architectural changes to the apartment over the years. We enjoyed the neighborhood and its proximity to all of the city. Our 4 year-old played in the park across the canal and he was very fond of keeping tabs on the birds who hung out on the sidewalk in front of the apartment and nearby boathouses.

We were extremely pleased to stay at the mondriaan apartment. It looked even better than on the pictures. It was clean, fresh and cosy. The view was also really nice and the area was quiet but still very close to the city center. We were also delighted to see the food and that the kitchen was so well equiped ! It felt as if we had come home to a good friend’s apartment !It also turned out to be a much better deal then staying in a hotel. We had all our breakfasts and dinners "at home" which was really practical and economical. So I warmly recommend it !

This is a lovely, quiet apartment with a grand view and wonderfully located. Bruce and Eelco were welcoming and responsive to any of our needs. The apartment is well stocked with snacks and staples, as well as guidebooks, artbooks, and novels. We felt very lucky to be here.

We had a great experience at the Marnixkade Canalview Apartment. Bruce and Eelco were absolutely wonderful hosts. Available for advice and any needs, but not at all instrusive. They stock the apartment with lots of food, tour books, and other welcome items. The location is ideal. In the lovely Jordaan district. An easy walk or transit ride to anywhere, but far enough away from the crowds. Highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful stay at the apartment. It is in an excellent location, a pleasant walk from the train station. The apartment itself has everything a person would need for a relaxing vacation stay. Bruce & Eelco provided pre-trip guidance, as well as snacks and supplies once we had arrived. Without a doubt, I would stay here again.

Prior to arriving, Bruce and Eelco made sure we had every bit of information we needed know for a smooth journey to the apartment. From the moment we walked through the doors of the apartment, we were delighted to see how pleasant (spacious, bright) and clean the apartment was. We were also delighted to see the amenities (stocked refrig, fresh fruit. chocolates, cereal, cheese, milk, fresh organically grown coffee beans, etc.). Not only did Bruce and Eelco think of our "needs," but they added the element of "romance" by providing fresh flowers and a magnificent array of fresh fruits and wine. There are no words to describe how wonderful it is after a long flight from the U.S. to not have to run out and get some food for the morning. It's such a pleasure to experience "truth in advertising." Everything Bruce and Eelco said it would be, it indeed was, and then some. They "truly" know how to make their guests feel welcomed. They have a genuine concern for the comfort of their guests and that includes knowing how to get around. They provided us with all kinds of information from dining experiences, to maps for getting around, to places of interest, to local spas, etc. Not only will you not be disappointed, but you will be happier than you can imagine because you will truly feel "at home" at Bruce and Eelco's place. Thanks guys for enhancing our Holland experience. We most certainly hope to return to your place again in our travels. You went above and beyond the call of duty. You are truly sweethearts, if you don't mind my saying so. Julie & Syd P.S. Friends travelled with us but rented a separate apartment nearby in Jordaan and were very disappointed. Believe me they won't return there, but they will return to Bruce and Eelco's place if their travels bring them back to Amsterdam.

Comment Text: We have traveled quite a bit, and unlike many places we've stayed, Bruce and Eelco's apartment not only lived up to its web description but surpassed it. We very much enjoyed evening conversations with our hosts, who were unfailingly helpful and patient with our questions. They also graciously provided a generous array of fruit, cheese, wine, and other foodstuffs on our arrival. The apt. is ideally located -- quiet yet central. We'd definitely stay here again.

We had a marvelous stay in Amsterdam and Bruce and Eelco's apartment was a major factor. Prior to arrival, Bruce was extremely prompt in answering questions in our emails. The apartment was exactly the way depicted in the pictures and more: food in the refrigerator (that REALLY helped after a long flight!), huge plate of fruit on the table, flowers, etc. Bruce / Eelco were travelling when we arrived but the made arrangements to have another gentlemen do all the logistics. Location of apartment for seeing sights in AM was perfect. If you're looking for an apartment in AM, why go anywhere else?

I have been visiting Amsterdam regularly for over 25 years. About five years ago I started renting apartments rather than hotels, which, in my opinion, is by far the better way to go. Of the many apartments I've rented, Bruce & Eelco's Marnixkade apartment was by far the best. The location is great (on the edge of Jordaan -- Amsterdam's best neighborhood, in my opinion) and the apartment itself is wonderful. It really shows pride of ownership -- as compared to feeling like a rental. The place is tastefully decorated, the floorplan is very livable, it's light and spacious and the views are great. When we arrived, the place was spotless and well stocked with everything from wine & beer to cheeses, meats, fruits and cereals. The hosts, Bruce & Eelco, were great -- there when we needed their resources and enjoyed their compnay, but not hovering over you like one might find at a bed & breakfast. The apartment is a great value and you won't be disappointed. In fact, you won't want to leave -- we didn't and thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks there. Assuming there's a vacancy, we'll be renting it again this fall. Feel free to email me with any questions.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in the Marnixkade Canalview Apartments during our week-long stay in Amsterdam. I would highly recommend this 1 bedroom apartment. The owners live downstairs and are wonderful hosts. The refrigerator was stocked with delicious cheeses, fresh fruit, vegetables and milk. There was coffee, tea and the best Muesseli I have ever tasted. The apartment was tastefully furnished and the view of the canals was romantic. The location could not have been better. We were in walking distance to many fine restaurants and shops and grocery stores. If a sight we wanted to see was not in walking distance, we could catch the cable car less than a block away. If you desire a reference, please don't hesitate to email me!

My wife, two daughters (13 and 10), and I spent a week in one of the Marnixkade Canalview Apartments in the fall of 2005. It was an absolute delight -- tastefully furnished, wonderfully stocked with breakfast foods and more, perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood within easy walking distance to the sights of Amsterdam, reasonably priced. But what made our stay special was the non-intrusive attentiveness of our host, Bruce Haase, who assisted us in many ways. Our stay was a perfect blend of the social connection one finds at bed-and-breakfasts and the privacy offered by big hotels. When we return to Amsterdam, we'll surely stay here. We VERY highly recommend it!

I have had the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam many times. Each visit is different for me but one very consistent thing is my stay at the Marnixkade Canalview Apartments. The hosts always provide a gracious welcome and the apartments create a wonderful and comfortable home-base while I explore the city’s many pleasures. From the apartments, you are close to everything but far enough away to have a break from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The Jordaan, where the apartments are located, is a wonderful district with its small streets, boutique stores and canal-side bars and restaurants. In any season, I love walking or biking around the area. Finally, the hosts are remarkably friendly and helpful. They are both long-time residents and know Amsterdam inside and out – an added plus for first time visitors.I couldn’t ask for more in holiday accommodations. I would encourage anyone visiting Amsterdam to stay at the Marnixkade Canalview Apartments!
