The Villa at Makaha combines the best of Hawaii’s plantation style architecture and elegant living. Off the main road, our gated property offers guests a private oceanfront resort experience with all the comforts of home. When you first open the double doors leading to our home the view will take your breath away. The spacious living and dining areas open to a covered lanai, where wide steps lead to our beautifully landscaped ocean front yard. You will be awe struck by the waves crashing against the lava rock wall or whales breaching right in front of our home during the winter months.
The Villa at Makaha is one of the premier beach homes on Oahu. It features 6 bedrooms, central air conditioning, cherry wood floors throughout, a gourmet kitchen with high end appliances including a sub zero refrigerator, three designer bathrooms (one with a Jacuzzi tub), an attached garage, and even office space for those needing to keep in touch with work back home. Our home is tastefully furnished and its thoughtful layout makes it perfect for several families. Guests can dine indoors or on the covered lanai, which features ceiling fans and shutters for those rare rainy evenings.
The first floor has four bedrooms. The two south wing bedrooms share an in-suite bathroom, and the two north bedrooms share an adjacent bath. The upstairs living area has two bedrooms and a full bath. Half of the bedrooms offer twin beds, but, to meet our guests needs, we can re-configure our home to provide 4 king beds and two queen beds.
Makaha is on the leeward (western) side of Oahu and is the ultimate Hawaii beach location. Makaha is renowned for its post card sunsets, surfing, scuba diving and for its drier and sunnier climate. The location of our home is ideal. We are far enough from Waikiki that you will experience the real Hawaii, yet nearby you can enjoy resort life. It's only 12 miles to the resorts at Ko Olina (featuring the new Disney resort opening in Aug 2011). Ko Olina features the island’s best luau, fine dining, championship golf and charter boats.
Even closer by there are two golf courses in Makaha Valley as well as numerous local restaurants. At the Makaha Marina you will find scuba diving excursions, fishing charters and whale watching trips.
Our house is on a lava beach, protected by a seawall. From our spacious, palm tree shaded lawn you’ll enjoy swells breaking against the rocks and during the winter months you can spot whales nearby. A short walk down our lane is Beal’s pool (a natural swimming hole) and Makaha Beach Park. Or hop in your car and head north to road’s end to Keawa ‘Ula Bay to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in paradise.
We invite you to enjoy Hawaii in the air-conditioned comfort of our beautiful home.

Our family traveled to the beautiful island of Oahu for the first time. We were a party of 8 adults. The first thing we noticed was the beautiful view from the lanai. It is picture perfect. The lanai is expansive and very accommodating for us all to sit out and watch the whales and/or water crashing against the lava rocks. We rented a Mustang convertible, a Jeep, and a Volvo convertible. We did not have any issues parking all three inside the gate as we parked the Mustang in the garage. We used the two bedrooms upstairs which utilizes the one bathroom upstairs, plenty of room for our two adult children and their spouses. We used the two bedrooms downstairs to the left of the kitchen that also shares one bathroom (one bedroom had twin beds so it was fine for a single adult). The master bedroom is right off the dining room/kitchen. There is a master bathroom, however it does not have a working shower (the shower head has been removed although it appears plumbing is still intact) with a whirlpool tub. We used the other downstairs bathroom to take showers, inconvenient but we managed. The 6th bedroom (twin beds) is right off the kitchen and shares the master bathroom. We had one adult child that wanted to be in that room and we said no (we wanted our privacy as the parents :)). The wi-fi is free but the router is not secured and we had a difficult time staying connected if we wandered too far from the kitchen. We strongly recommend securing the router. There are tiny ants in the kitchen and bathrooms that are more of a cosmetic nuisance than an issue. We were shocked one morning as we are sitting on the lanai drinking coffee and the yard maintenance crew shows up. I would like to have been notified as to "yard day". The drive on Farrington Highway can be very congested so keep that in mind. We shopped at Tamura Supermarket...prices are ok. Just remember prices are higher in Hawaii. We found a great little souvenier store at Waianae Mall if you want t-shirts, dresses, or shorts with Hawaii logos, etc. T-shirts for $5.00 and shorts for $12.99. If we ever planned on returning to Oahu with our family, we would stay here again. It was great to see the whale show. We had a mother and baby whale and it appeared the mother was teaching the baby to breech the water. It was fabulous to watch.

Absolutely outstanding rental house ... furnished to the gills with everything and anything you can imagine! Previously, we had stayed in hotels and were so bored, we ended up spending $$$ to "get out" of our room and go tour something. At this house, we were so completely relaxed and content that we stayed home and enjoyed the amenities and the gorgeous views. Whales and sea turtles were a constant as well as dolphins. The occasional high crashing waves were spectacular and even brought us out in the middle of the night to witness the unbelievable star show in the night sky. Debbie and Debi were so accommodating and even assisted us with a special medical request. All in all, we had a great time and want to convey a HUGE thank you ... it made a humdrum vacation into a fabulous memory that we won't soon forget. We did make it to Pearl Harbor, Polynesian Cultural Center and the Dole Plantation. A big plus was that we came home refreshed and not tired. We definitely plan to return and will select this house first! Mahalo! Mahalo!

We have 10 people who want to say THANK YOU for sharing your wonderful beach villa at Makaha with us for the week. Everything was exactly as you described it. Before our arrival we all thought the view from the lanai must have been photo shopped and enhanced, but to our surprise and delight we have many matching photos. We thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations. The lanai was our favourite spot for coffee in our pj's, whale watching, wave/spray watching, lunch and dinner when home (table for 10 was perfect), evening cocktails and before bed chats and beautiful sunsets again in our pj's. We don't quite know why we needed the rest of the house except for the extremely comfortable beds? The outdoor shower soon became a hit with the beautiful mountain view. Our mom (86) thought the hammock was just there for her. We covered as much of the island as we could in a very relaxed manor. We visited the beaches, beals pool (on a very high wave action day this is quite a thrill) the Ka'ena state park, pearl harbour, east coast, north shore and Banzi pipeline (second visit got to see the big surf), the Byodo-In Temple, sampled the shrimp truck, tried shaved ice with ice cream, (mmm good), went to the paradise cove luau, sampled the flavour of the local markets and grocery store. Put this together with the cruise and we definitely have enough photos between us to do our own tour magazine. Thanks again for helping to make our first visit to Hawaii a memorable one. Your friendliness and helpful suggestions and the wonderful greeting we got from Deb made us all feel right at home. Please let me know of your other Hawaiian properties or other locations as we would not hesitate to rent from you again, and this was our first Hawaiian visit but definitely not our last Thanks again Linda and family

We flew all our family out to Hawaii to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We renewed our vows in the backyard at sunset. it truly was the most amazing day. The house is beyond beautiful. We used all 6 bedrooms and so enjoyed the rest of the house. The kitchen is a dream . We watched whales from the backyard and there is no way to express just how perfect this home is. Deb and Debi were both so helpful and accomadating. I was bugging poor Deb a year in advance with tons of questions and she was so helpful. It was a week to remember and hopefully we will be able to return to this beautiful place in the future. Although we live in Maine, we have made numerous trips over the years to Hawaii. I first visited Oahu in 1971. Things have changed a lot over those 40+ years. The traffic around Honolulu is too intense for my vacation driving. So, this year we chose a new destination up on the western shore by Makaha, a place to get away from the city and into the real Hawaii. This house is located in a residential neighborhood, not in a warren of rental units. The house itself is very well appointed and the pictures are accurate. From the excellent kitchen to the very best bed I have slept on in many years, this was a pleasant surprise. We like to cook and with the nearby grocery stores and well-equipped kitchen, we were able to easily provide ample meals for six adults. We ate most of our meals on the lanai. If you don't feel like cooking, drive (through no traffic) to Hanarra for breakfast or Coquitos for dinner. But the beaches were the best. One Sunday morning we did go in to Waikiki and we hated the crowds of people after the previous day when we had walked a few blocks from this house to Makaha Beach. Very few people and a huge expanse of sand, made it our first choice among the beaches. The sunsets from the lanai or the beautiful lawn by the seawall were memorable but after the sun went down we watched dozens of constellations appear in the sky. Because you don't have the light pollution of the city, it was a great place to star gaze. This will go down as one of the finest vacations we have ever had.

We recently returned from our stay at this absolutely perfect vacation house. We are 1 family consisting of 4 adult couples ranging in ages from 26 to 60 yrs old. The last time we got away for this length of time my kids were young teenagers! I wanted to spend my birthday with my family, in a special place, and searched for weeks to find the right locale. Not only did we find the right house but also the right people to deal with! Deb, the owner, and Debbie, the property manager, are fantastic. The description of this property including photos, was extremely accurate. We actually found the house and yard to be more beautiful than pictured. The house was immaculate in its cleanliness. The open concept design of the living room, dining area and kitchen were amazing. One of the reasons we chose Deb's house was that her pictures showed a dining table seating 8, while the table on the lanai had 10 chairs. Many properties advertise accommodations for 8 to 10 people, but pictures show dining sets that only seat 6. We wanted to have our meals together and this worked perfectly. We also enjoyed the time preparing our food while seated at the island bar having our drinks and appetizers and sharing many laughs. My "chefs" loved the cook top and oven. In fact all of the appliances are well appointed and in perfect working order. They seemed brand new. We spent many days in the yard as well. People enjoyed the hammock and also sitting at the sea wall watching the ocean and sunsets. How cool is it to have a shower outdoors everyday? The bedrooms also provide total privacy for when it was wanted. All 4 downstairs rooms had ample space. Whales passed by everyday. Sea turtles live right in front of the rocks. The beach is a 5 minute walk and has some of the best snorkeling in the world! It's a short swim out to a marker where you will see many fish species and even manta rays. I also happened upon a turtle "cleaning station" where 6 turtles were inches from me. The tour boats from Ko'Olina use this as a destination for snorkelers. We actually noticed them from the back yard. That's how close it is! The house was a perfect "home base". We had many day trips including golf, a luau, para sailing and gliding. We all agreed the best was just staying "home". There may be cable at the house but we wouldn't know. The tv never got turned on. How good is that? Thanks Deb & Debbie. We are planning our return trip. I hope it'll be available! Highly recommended.

Makaha is a small, isolated town on the western coast of Oahu. It is a paradoxical place, a land of extremes known for its beautiful white beaches and rich cultural heritage. The “Villa at Makaha is a beautifully appointed, well maintained beachfront home with all of the comforts of home and much, much more. The house is spectacular, warm, inviting and fully equipped. The amenities are wonderful, tastefully appointed and decorated to create a sense of welcome! It was wonderful to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean outside our window. The master bedroom also has a magnificent Jacuzzi tub and there is no need to bring a hair dryer, as everything you might need is provided. Spectacular nightly sunsets added to the viewing as we enjoyed “Mai tai” hour! Sea turtles poked their heads out from the surf welcoming us. We also enjoyed relaxing and reading in the chairs on the lawn, or in the hammock hung between regal palm trees in the back yard. The neighborhood is small and colorfully local. Several great local markets are just minutes away. Great fresh poki is plentiful! One of our favorite restaurants in Makaha is Tacos and More for great Margueritas and Mexican food. If you enjoy snorkling there is much to expolore off the reefs in the backyard where several sea caves are located. Bring reef walkers to explore the reef at low tide. There is a wonderful swimming hole called “Beel’s Pool” built into the reef just steps from the house and there are wonderful beaches, hikes and historical Hawaiian architecture close by. There is a beautiful white sand beach not far away at Yokahama Bay, where the coast road ends. There you can park your car and enjoy a hike to Kaena Point, the western end of the island, which ends at a nature preserve where sea lions can be seen lounging on the sand. A rental car is necessary to fully explore the island of Oahu. It is only about a 45 minute drive to the North Shore where we had a wonderful lunch at Ola's on the beach at Turtle Bay. Halewaii on the North Shore is a great surf town famous for its shaved ice and gift shops. It is easy to rent a surf board if the surf is good! Honolula is also about 45 minutes away and well worth spending the day. Don't forget the weekend open market swap meet at the stadium. Lots of local treasures! Our visit to the Villa was extraordinary! It is a special house in a very special place. We would highly recommend it to family and friends. Aloha & Mahalo!

Makaha is a small, isolated town on the western coast of Oahu. It is a paradoxical place, a land of extremes known for its beautiful white beaches and rich cultural heritage. The “Villa at Makaha is a beautifully appointed and well maintained beachfront home with all of the comforts of home and much, much more. Debbie was most helpful as we booked our stay giving us plenty of suggestions, but the fact is we were happy to spend most of our time at her fantastic house. What a final day of our one week stay at. We toured Disney's Aulani Resort- just five days after it opened. It's beautiful - just as you would expect from Disney, but the truth is we're glad we were here instead. What's not to love about this house. It's even more beautiful than the website pictures. When we returned from our visit to Ko Olina we walked for an hour around the Makaha Retreat golf course, then stopped at Makaha Beach to enjoy one last Hawaiian sunset. Then we came back home to enjoy Mai Tais as we sat on the seawall. Waves splashed on the lava rocks in front of us. Mindful of our need to tidy the house and pack we retreated to the house for a couple hours only to return to the seawall for another show. The quarter moon was setting and we sat on the hammock watching the orange moon slip below the horizon. The Milky Way was in full glow and we even saw a falling star. All the while the ocean sounds filled the air (ok, we could also hear the neighbor singing in the shower, but that is so Hawaii). All in all it was a great ending to a very fun week. Great golf, wonderful weather, plenty of hammock time... P.S. On our last night we also got to see the green flash!

                          Why the Owner Chose Makaha:
We owned another Oahu home, but wanted a home on the west side where the weather was drier and we were looking for a more elegant home.
