Quaint, historical Bluffton neighborhood’s former Chicago “Actors’ Colony” and famous film director, Buster Keaton, is a favorite place by lakes and beaches and close to most everything else. Within 2-15 minutes of many beaches, submarine, ships, cruise boat, Lakeshore Trail, downtown festivals, Farmers Market, music, art, live theater, historic architecture, Cross Lake Ferry, malls, restaurants, groceries, and two major hospitals. Watch sail boats go by on Muskegon Lake 1 block at the end of the street.

This home has truly everything you would want in a vacation home. Our family took our 1st (and 2nd!!) Family Vacations here with our very small children (6, 4, 2, 9 mos.). We couldn't have been more pleased. The place was exactly as described on the website and even better because the description did not stress how absolutely SPARKLING CLEAN the home is! We felt completely comfortable letting our children roam the house, play on the floor, sleep in the beautiful clean beds and ride their bikes on the quiet street! Access to Lake Michigan can be by bike, on foot or by car (30 second car ride). The beach is the cleanest we have experienced, was perfectly maintained and great for families. The owner has gone out of her way to decorate and accessorize her home for families with many children. This is even better in person than on the website. The pictures do not do the cottage justice. When I saw the pictures on the website, I was amazed. When I saw it in person, I fell in love with the place. I was there for 8 weeks on business beginning in October, and wished I could have stayed longer. I recently relocated to the Muskegon area from Indianapolis, In. During the time it took for me to start my new job here and look for a house to purchase I stayed in the Redbird Cottage for the months of March and April 2013. Moving in was a breeze, the cottage was very well maintained with all of the amenities that I could possibly need and VERY, VERY clean. Jane S was fantastic to work with and made the entire process very easy for me. She offered me some insight to the neighborhood and Muskegon area. The neighbors were very pleasant and welcoming. Everyone had a smile, a wave or a "hello" at each encounter. The cottage was very quiet at night and I enjoyed many restful evenings. The high speed internet worked very well and kept me connected to family via email as well as allowing me to dive right in to work at night for my new position. My family came to stay with me for a week during their spring break in April. They really enjoyed the beach that was just a couple of blocks away. I wish it could have been a little warmer so we really could have taken advantage of the setting. We played board games (Yatzee was their favorite) and watched a couple of the movies that were provided at the cottage. I would recommend the Redbird cottage for anyone that would like a week away to unwind in a quiet comfortable setting, or to anyone that had a longer stay similar to my relocation. We stayed in Eagles Nest, the smaller cottage and it was fabulous. Very clean and updated decor!!! Very close to Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake. Had a great time.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

A couple friends and I rented this charming cottage for three days mid-July as a quick Summer retreat from life. The entire place is spotless, so clean we had no qualms whatsoever using the kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, etc. Living spaces are cozy and comfortable. Backyard large and inviting, green and landscaped, with a good sized picnic table and a firepit. It is semi-private, though it does share a walkway with the property behind the house. The driveway is shared and the path from their to to the entrance of the other property goes through the backyard, around the firepit, but isn't overly intrusive. Not too far from the beach. Walkable, if you don't mind a 10-minute stroll, and one somewhat busy road. Owner was extremely helpful and pleasant, providing more accurate driving directions than Google, and exuding an extremely welcoming and friendly demeanor. The kitchen was fully stocked for preparing meals, with a decent amount of cookware, and some general cooking supplies (a few herbs and spices available). The neighborhood itself seemed a bit rundown as we drove in, some neighboring houses seemingly abandoned, but the property itself shines like a beacon amidst those darkened plots. I would recommend this location to anyone, especially families. Very close to shopping and the beach and other daytime activities. And very conducive to relaxing afternoons and evenings either indoors or out.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

We rented the cottage in preparation for our daughters wedding. It provided a beautiful photo backdrop for the bride-to-be and her bridesmaids. The day after the wedding it provided us room to relax. Although not directly on the water it was within walking distance of the beach. We would stay there again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

I couldn't have booked a better place to stay. Redbird has everything you will need as your home away from home. Great for families with small children...my next trip will be a girls getaway. My family and I stayed here June 27th - July 3rd 2009 and would certainly go back again. The home is very clean and it was a home away from home for us. Everything is provided for, right down to dishes, linens, towels, soaps and more. It is beautifully decorated and in a charming neighborhood. It is a block away from the beach so you could walk, bike or ride. We loved sitting around the fire pit in the backyard in the evenings and many nights we could hear the waves. So relaxing. The owner (Jane) was wonderful to deal with and answered all our questions completely and promptly! If you are looking for someplace to relax on vacation this is the place. I cannot imagine staying in a hotel after our experience here.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had such a great time at Redbird Cottage that I don't know where to begin! The cottage was just as the description portrayed. It was clean, well stocked and adorable. The location was perfect -- so close to the beach! We really enjoyed reading about the history of the Bluffton area from the books that were in the cottage and loved the information book with restaurant and activity recommendations. Jane was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend this cottage if you are visiting this area.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, girls getaway.

This is an adorable cottage. My family of 6 were very confortable. We rode to the beach and hung out inside during the rainy days and we weren't cramped for space. About the owner: I live on the other side of Muskegon Lake in the City of North Muskegon, close enough to be a 'hands-on' owner and manager. We purchased the property because is it in a desirable location in a friendly, historic area on a peninsula by Pere Marquette beach, 2.5 blocks to Lake Michigan beach and 1 block to Muskegon Lake - and is close to many beaches, parks, festivals, and city summer and winter events. It is centrally located to other favorite spots near Muskegon - Grand Haven, Holland, and other beach towns.
Why the Owner Chose Muskegon:
The Bluffton 'Actors' Colony' area is on a peninsula between Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake within the City of Muskegon. It's only 0.3 mile (0.5 km) west to the sugar sand beach of Pere Marquette Park - on the 'Clean Beach Award' - and the south side of Muskegon Channel, and it's 1 block east to the shoreline of Muskegon Lake. It's centrally located to favorite spots like Holland, Grand Haven, to visit outside of Muskegon. The neighborhood is friendly, and the houses have been owned by the same families going back generations. This is as close as you get to having an 'old-fashioned' beach vacation with modern amenities - no condos, not a resort.
