We stayed at Casa Playa Azul - two parents and two teenagers. Lovely home, great staff, beautiful location. Edith, Yobani, Odalis and Westlin were so nice. Even though we didn't speak the same language, they were excellent at communicating with us and getting things dealt with. The food was always good and the place was always clean. And we went snorkeling in the Cenote across the road several times.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just got back from an incredible stay for our 30th anniversary at Playa Azul! The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. The house was very comfortable and had everything needed to make us completely comfortable. I cannot say enough about the staff. They keep the place spotless and are very gracious and nonintrusive. Yobani keeps the grounds spotless and even rakes the private beach each day beautifully! Lolly and Edith are amazing cooks! The highlights were the amazing Ceviche and the ultimate Chili Rellenos! We wanted to keep Lolly forever - she is so thoughtful and sweet! The snorkeling in the bay out front was great! We took the kayaks out and snorkeled off them. (We made a anchor from a large rock with a hole in it to keep them from drifting. There are many different fish and beautiful coral. The water was the perfect temperature. The owners have left a good supply of water shoes, snorkels, and toys. The beds were also very comfortable and the rooms were very private. We drifted off every night to the sound of the waves and the scent of the agave bushes below the window.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time at Casa Playa Azul. The sunrises were spectacular, the beach great for walking, kayaks were fun in the bay. Having separate bedroom/bathroom units allowed for a lot of privacy for all. We spent a lot of time on the beach-side patio. There was nice cool shade, great hammock chairs for lounging, and the pool was refreshing during the heat of the day. The staff did a fantastic job. We felt very well cared for. It was a quick ten minute drive to Tulum for groceries or eating out, but we found we were always in a hurry to get back to beautiful Tankah Bay. We were only able to snorkel a few days of our stay, due to the weather conditions, but what we were able to see was very enjoyable. We are hoping to visit again soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Location, location, location! Perfectly situated on Tankah Bay, the house was immaculate and well-appointed. Close to Tulum and Akumal and a variety of attractions - we especially enjoyed walking to Casa Cenote for margaritas at sunset. We loved the private beach and pool and enjoyed not having to worry about cooking - Edith and her staff were very accommodating. My only complaint was that we did not realize bedrooms are more like separate apartments which wasn't ideal with 3 small children. Had we known we would have brought a baby monitor. That being said - the house was well-equipped for kids with boosters, pack and plays, toys, life-jackets, etc. Overall, a great vacation house - and it would be fun to also rent the house next door by same owners for a large group. Would we go back? YES!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Property Description: Casa Playa Azul Property ID Number: 6881 Comment rating: Positive Comments: This was not my first visit to Tankah Shores and Casa Playa Azul. This amazing beach/ beach home and the entire Tulum area has been my favorite place to get away since my first visit 8 years ago. Playa Azul is very comfortable with everything you might need right at your fingertips. The beach is beautiful and very private. We spent many hours each day simply taking in the sun and cooling down in the private pool just steps from the patio door. Edith and her nephew Wueslin took great care of us and the few meals we had cooked for us were outstanding! (I highly reccomend the Chile Rellenos!). Telum is very nice little town with some very good restaurants and great hospitality. We spent a few hours almost every evening at Don Cafetes sidewalk cafe eating, drinking and listening to live music from the house Tio who were all a lot of fun. I can go on and on about Casa Playa Azul and tha amazing times I have had there. If you have not experienced it..you should! Thankyou to Judy and her house staff for making my rare and much needed vacations a vacation in paradise! Eric Schwartz, Sequim, WashingtonDid you find this review helpful? My fiance and I stayed at Casa Playa Azul Mar/Apr 2011. It was such an amazing week! I couldn't say enough positive things. The Tulum area is wonderful for water activity, we loved the Cenotes- they are a MUST- and it was so cool to have one just a couple houses down the street! And we loved kayaking out into the ocean right from our door step and snorkeling along the amazing reef right off the shores of the home. The home itself was so comfortable and relaxing, it is better than the pictures. Sitting on the upstairs deck under the stars at night was wonderful. The home is kept impeccably clean and the caretakers are helpful and kind people. We have traveled to a lot of places and we don't usually make a habit of going to the same place twice but we have already discussed many times how we can't wait to return to Tankah Shores. Hoping to do it again in 2012 with our new baby! There are lovely restaurants nearby if you desire to eat out, we loved Akumal- the Turtle Bakery is amazing. Tulum has a amazing choices as well. There is also a restaurant just a couple houses down on the ocean called Casa Cenote that is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner casual dining. We also visited the local bed and breakfast called Blue Sky right down the road (walking distance) for a nice dinner. Most of our meals we ate at home though because once you are at this house you really never want to leave. We just made sure to wash our fresh fruits and veggies with Microdyn which is safe and easy. And just a side note on the weather. The week we were there was a rather windy week which can be common on the ocean. Another of the MANY wonderful aspects of this home is that it is in a protected cove type of area. Even though it was a windy week we were able to swim and sit on the beach everyday in complete comfort and when we went for a drive into the Tulum beach we were surprised to find no one on the beach with much more wind and very large ocean swells. Tankah Shores is an amazing place that we consider ourselves lucky to have found and we can't wait to go back. Mira & Eric, New HampshireDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Dear Judy,Just a small note to say a BIG THANK YOU for opening your home to my girlfriends and I during our Mexican adventure last September!! While the detour to Casa Playa Azul was unplanned (thank you Hurricane Ike!!) your beautiful home and warm reception definitely made it a highlight of the trip!! I must say that the private pool, hammock swings and palapas on the private beach help complete the absolute tranquil setting of your gorgeous property, while the proximity to Tulum and Playa Del Carmen offered tours of the Mayan ruins and other adventures only minutes away. The private massage by the local spa under the upstairs palapa (while raining!) is hands down a top 10 memory in my book, only to be edged out by the hatching of the baby sea turtles while we were there…the whole stay was incredible!! Again, I just want to say thank you so very much and please pass my appreciation on to your staff at the house for their kind attention during our few days – I still have yet to convince my husband to prepare fresh salsa and guacamole every afternoon for me but I am still trying!! I hope to be able to return with him very soon and to share with him the little slice of Heaven you allowed us to shelter at while a storm named Ike pounded our homes in Houston.I am forever grateful for the few stolen days in paradise.Warmest regardsSommer BilyDid you find this review helpful? Our trip to Casa Playa Azul was amazing. The house and surrounding area were much more beautiful than portrayed in the website. The flowers, beach, birds were a tropical paradise! Edith was a wonderful cook and made us some incredible meals. It was the most relaxing vacation I have ever taken and would recommend the house and area to anyone. There is so much to see and do for people of all ages. We had the best time kyaking and walking on the beach. The teenagers loved the pool and private beach! My daughter's first comment upon arrival, "this is where I want my senior class pictures taken". I believed she enjoyed the scenery and landscape (she wants to be a photographer). We most definately will return! Margie, Renae, Cayla and AllisonDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Judy - We can't thank you enough for the phenominal stay we had at Casa Playa Azul! Although this was not my first stay, it was the absolute BEST stay. I married my best friend. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect! Edith and Yobani decorated the back porch and beach with handmade flowers, real flowers, palm branches, little twinkling lights, and luminarios going up the steps to the beach. After the ceremony, Edith prepared a wonderful dinner for us and our guests. It had rained earlier in the afternoon but by the time of the wedding, the skies were clear and it was perfect. We truly had a storybook wedding at your house on the beach! (Not to mention wonderful scuba diving and sightseeing in the days leading to the wedding!) Thank you again for everything you and your staff did to make this the most incredible day for us! Cheryl and Kirk DavisDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Judy, Thanks for the wonderful stay! I can't decide which part we enjoyed the most. The boys (age 6 1/2) would say playing in the sand, the pool, kayaking with Daddy, building a hermit crab habitat, and snorkeling. Rick and I would say the ease of a family vacation - the bunk beds in our room, the well equipped kitchen, the food prepared by Edith, the close proximity to an airport, I could go on FOREVER! We plan on returning soon! Thanks again, Rick, Lora, Philip, and ThomasDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We were one of the first non-family members to have rented this beautiful villa in Tankah. That was many years ago and prior to the pool and palapas on the beach, but it is still one of the most memorable vacations we have every had. Although, sadly, it rained the majority of the week, my husband and I, our three children and my Mom (her first time in Mexico) had an amazing time. The villa is so unique with the different levels and bedroom areas, not to mention the perfect Mexican details, but what we remember the most is just hanging around on the hammock chairs, kayaking out to the coral reef, snorkeling along the coral reef and in the cenote, eating at Casa Cenote (is it still there) and just relaxing and spending time together as a family. I can't imagine what the place is like now with the addition of the pool and palapas. Thank you for our wonderful vacation and we hope all is well.Did you find this review helpful? We loved our vacation at Tankah Shores. It was everything we thought it would be and more. Edith is a fantastic cook and housekeeper. I highly recommend getting the Grande Lobster. Her prices are much better that the resturants. There is everything you need at the house- kayaks, snorkling equipment, life vest, beach toys for the kids- I would not bring anything extra. We have always stayed at a big all-inclusive resort and this vacation was parade in comparsion. If you are traveling with children, this is the way to go. Is it so easy and relaxing. I loved putting the kids to bed and hanging outside playing cards. It was great and we can not wait to go back next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I can't help but to say that Tankah is paradise! We had such a wonderful time at your home! It is even more lovely than you could have ever explained. The home, the location, the people, the caretaker couple. Just everthing. It was truly fantastic. Those ocean kayaks are the best! We enjoyed them everyday. The whole experience was positive. I just can't think of more because you have done it all! And so well. We would like to come back in the Fall; could you tell me when your home is available? We would like our other children to have the Yucatan experience. Thank you again so much for letting us have the pleasure of enjoying what you have accomplished. You have created a very lovely home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I would like to "thank you" for the opportunity to stay in your house in Tankah, Mexico. My wife, three children and I absolutely loved the house, the surrounding beaches, the beautiful reef and everything this house had to offer! Nothing could have been more perfect for our family vacation. The house is stocked with everything most people would have at home and then some. You have done a great job of anticipating what guests would need and you were correct in telling me "All you need is a toothbrush, a couple of swimming suits and some T-shirts". The on-site help where very accommodating and made our stay a pleasure. As you promised, Lesley is a wonderful cook and treated us like royalty. She was professional and respected our privacy but at the same time was also warm and friendly. You have a real "find" in her and her lovely family! The location of this house is perfect for day-trips to all of the surrounding natural wonders of the area; much more so than Cancun. This is one of the rare instances where my expectations of "the perfect vacation" were not only met but exceeded. So....Thank you for your help, your hospitality and your home!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

First of all, I want to thank you for renting you beautiful house to us this past holiday. I must say the house was everything we had hoped it would be. We loved the place, we adored you kitchen, and the rooms were perfect. Everything was always in perfect condition and Lesly was very helpful at all times. The Christmas tree was a lovely detail. Especially the kids enjoyed the Christmas atmosphere very much. Definitely, the best part about your house is how well it is kept. Everything is just like new. So white and so full of light. We had a wonderful time and we definitely hope we can come back very soon. My husband and brother enjoyed jogging in the surroundings. We found everything we needed in Tulum and we just had to make an occasional trip to Playa del Carmen for extra groceries (for our Christmas dinner for example). I am enclosing a few pictures that I scanned. My father loves to do watercolors and he found endless motivation for his work at Casa Playa Azul. Unfortunately, computers do not do justice to such works of art, but I hope you can appreciate your house and the surroundings in this pictures. Best regards and I hope to be in contact so we can enjoy your house again in the future. Thank you very much.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time on our too-short vacation. We feel very fortunate to have found your little piece of the Mayan coast. We visited Playa del Carmen and Cancun as well as other places along the way - and none matched our interests as well as Tankah Shores. As far as the house goes, we were very pleased with the accommodations. We liked the layout with the separate bedrooms and open porch upstairs. We all enjoyed the hammocks - especially the children. We liked the kitchen; everything was within easy reach. We also loved using the kayaks and snorkel gear. Leslie, your home caretaker, was great. She was very nice, and kept the place immaculate. She lit the candles in the evening, and that was very nice - just like home. The creative use of the available fresh flowers was very nice, too. We crammed a lot of sight-seeing into our 4 days....ruins at Tulum, Chichen-Itza and Coba....we loved them all...got to Chichen-Itza in a little over 2 hours which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed the small commercial strip in Tulum....especially the fresh-grilled chicken which we ate for 3 different meals. Tulum has a great fruit and vegetable market and decent grocery stores for basics. We visited Play-del-Carmen and enjoyed the shopping on 5th Avenue. Again, we loved our trip and loved your house! We're glad we found it and hope to visit again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I just wanted to drop you a short note to let you know that we had a wonderful time staying in your home. Everything was just perfect and we fell in love with the caretaker family. They went above and beyond their job. The house was beautiful. The rooms were very clean and had a nice, bright decorative feel. Having drinking bottles for brushing teeth was a great touch. We loved sitting in the hammocks, and we used the kayaks everyday many times. The snorkeling equipment was an added bonus. We went snorkeling in the cenote and everyday in the ocean. The house was well stocked with all the cooking supplies, and we also enjoyed that you had a CD player and VCR. We felt that everything we could have needed was there. Overall I would absolutely recommend your home to anyone. It was beautiful, and we can't wait to go back. We don't have dates yet but we are definitely planning on the same place next year. Thanks so much for the use of your home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
