We didn't have the best luck with weather during our week in Kauai but our stay in this wonderful cottage was absolutely the best. Incredibly wonderful, helpful hosts and the cottage is lovely and so comfortable. We were so grateful to have a cozy place when the rain and wind got the best of us. I plan to go back (in the summer!) and will definitely stay here again. Thank you Willi and Tony!

Our second time was just as wonderful as our first

I stayed with my girlfriend Abby a year ago (see the "Simply perfect!" review) and we had to return again this year because we had such a great time. This time my parents also joined us and the cottage had plenty of space and was just as charming with four people as it was with two. When we pulled up to the cottage we felt like we were coming home and once again Willi and Hale Kipa were perfect and gave us everything we needed. In fact we had such a great time that my girlfriend is now my fiancé and next time we are in Kauai there is no question that we'll be staying at Hale Kipa.

Owner response:WELL WELL..best wishes to you both.Champagne will be waiting for you on your next arrival. Thanks again for staying with us. AND thanks again for the review. wishing you and Abby all the best. with aloha, willi

This place is awesome!

Me and my buddy just got back after spending the past 7 nights here. This is the perfect spot for those who desire creature comforts in a non- hotel resort atmosphere. It's a separate cottage comfortably off the street and behind the owners house. The pictures and descriptions here don't do the place justice. The screened in lanai is incredible, with great views of Haupu ridge and Mt. Haupu. It's in the really mellow laid back town of Koloa which is small, friendly, and yet still a great jumping off point for visiting anywhere on Kauai!. Tony and Willie, the owners, are super people and make this a great place. We would definitely go back again!!!!!!

Owner response:How nice of you to write such a glowing report on us..Please come back....if you do i'll pray for surfer many mahalos WILLI & TONY

Great place at the end of it's own tree lined grass driveway. Plenty of room and a big screened in lanai (porch) that we hung out in all the time. Every night we'd sit in the lanai with music and a cup of coffee or a cocktail. We never used the living room a single time! If you want to get away and not feel like a tourist stuffed into a hotel room or condo - this is a great cottage for you. Our view from the lanai was beautiful horses in the foreground, and the mountains of Kauai in the background. We were in awe every night when we returned from our daytime adventures. The cottage is well stocked with dishes, glasses, pots, pans, some spices, etc. We bbq'd and had dinner in the lanai pretty often. We were usually too wore out from full days to want to go out - but when we did, we had great restaurants and local spots close by. BTW - since I own my business, it was important for me to have solid access to the internet. The cabin has access to DSL via hardline, 802.11b/g/n. Came in very handy for my work and at night we'd stream music from Pandora into a little stereo in the lanai. Willie and Tony (owners) were great and always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. Very nice people. If you use any of their properties - tell them we said 'Aloha'. Last Note: Locals were great and very friendly. We liked the girls that work at TNT Burger in Kapa'a (funny & cute attitudes), staff at Java Kai in Hanalei, staff at Ono Family Restaurant in Kapa'a, staff at Kapali Joe's (in Kapali and Poipu), Also staffs at Holo-Holo Charters, Outfitters of Kauai, and Safari Helicopters - all were great.

Owner response:WOW...thank you so much..Please do come back!!!!! Many Mahalos,WILLI

Fantastic spot to be close to it all but not in the bustle. The cottage was so quiet and peaceful. The mountain views from the lanai were such a treat each morning and afternoon. Horses graze in the meadow beyond the cottage's yard. It was so charming!! The kitchen had everything you could possibly want. Lots of space for two people. And Willi's banana bread is to die for!!

Owner response:Thank you very you...Please come back , i'll make 2 breads for you..many many mahalos

From the minute we drove up the grass driveway we loved this perfectly cute cottage. The owner made us feel immediately comfortable and right at home. The cottage is private, safe, clean, fully stocked, and came with beautiful views of the mountains, fresh cut flowers, and home baked banana bread! The owner also provides wireless internet, a BBQ, bikes, and everything you need for the beach including snorkeling equipment and more. We loved getting up in the morning and being greeted by the horses that live next door and in the evenings relaxing on the screened in lanai! The cottage is very conveniently located just about 20 minutes from the airport and mere minutes from Koloa and Poipu beach (with GREAT snorkeling). We had a wonderful vacation here and would highly recommend it and hope to return soon!!

This property captures the quiet and peaceful charm of the Kauai I recall from my childhood. The owners were wonderful and this property was very private and peaceful. In fact 23 other members of my family stayed in the Poipu area at various resort hotels, and everyone of them who visited us wanted to stay at Hale Kipa. It was very clean, had all the conveniences of home, and the lanai can only be described as heavenly. Close enough that all the Poipu area beaches and restaurants were only a couple of minutes away by car, yet in the mornings and evenings we could relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the island without feeling like tourists. Thanks Diane (Willi) for sharing Hale Kipa with us, we hope to return soon.

Owner response:many mahalos for the very nice review. Please do come back!!1 with Aloha, willi

A Perfect Vacation Retreat!

Date of Stay: 07/06/10 Review Submitted: 11/01/10

We've stayed at Hale Kipa twice now, and we've come to measure all other rental properties by this one. The cottage is immaculate, comfortable, and open, and is set far back from the road, giving it a very private feeling. There is plenty of room for our children to run around the property, among the many fruit trees. The lanai looks out on the mountains in the distance, and is the perfect spot for meals, or to just spend a peaceful evening. Diane, the owner, is friendly and welcoming, and is happy to share her extensive knowledge about the island. She makes sure that you have everything you could possibly need, from the cookware and spices, to beach equipment, and even a delicious loaf of homemade banana-macadamia-cranberry-coconut bread! We wouldn't stay anywhere else on Kauai - you can't do better than this for a quiet, relaxing, well-stocked home away from home.

Peaceful retreat near Koloa and Poipu

Guest: Sharon and Robert (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 01/17/09 Review Submitted: 03/22/09

My husband and I had an incredibly relaxing 10-day stay at Tony and Willi's wonderful cottage near Koloa. The cottage was exactly as advertised - clean, airy and light, with very comfortably furnished bedrooms and baths. It was an expansive space for two people, and would also be fine for two couples who knew each other well, since the shared spaces (kitchen and dining area, living room, and large, covered lanai) are generous. We cooked most of our meals at "home" and were thrilled with how convenient this was. The grocery shops in Koloa are only a couple of minutes down the road, there is a wonderful fish shop that sells fresh fish there, and there is also a farmer's market once a week nearby for local produce. The cottage is on a rural road, and while the owner's house is next door and there are other residences nearby, the views are mostly wide-open countryside, with horses and a gorgeous mountain-scape in the background. The house is comfortable enough that it is tempting to stay put - the deck is a great place to sip a gin and tonic, commune with the geckos, and watch the weather and views go by. In fact, one of the big pluses of the house is that it is great in rain or sun, though we were lucky enough to have mainly the latter. It is very quiet except for (we thought) soothing sounds such as crickets and the occasional rooster. The house is very close to Poipu and nearby sights - Poipu beaches with good snorkeling areas, spouting horn, and the national gardens are minutes away. The house was also very convenient to the Lihue airport, and reasonably close to the Waimea Canyon area and quiet western beaches (some of our favorite places). Though we explored the North Shore as well, we found it to be more driving than we liked for most days. Willi and Tony were very friendly without being obtrusive. The house was easy to find, though like most places you will need a rental car to get around. There is a large, covered carport with beach gear you can borrow - we found the beach chairs and cooler very handy. This place quickly felt like home and we hated to leave. We'd be quick to stay here again on a return trip - it's an ideal location and fantastic value - perfect for people who like to come back to their own private retreat at the end of the day, and find a respite from the crowds.

Spent a week here and was so relaxed and felt totally taken care of even though I didn't see the owners very much. They placed home grown fruits on the porch almost every day! Fully equiped with all you need. Also the shy geckos were amazing! We enjoyed the short walk to the town of Koloa but also visited all the main attractions available on the Island by car. Nepali coast, Poipu beach, a beer brewery, several water falls. So gorgeous and restful. Mahalo for a wonderful stay!!!

Perfect Kauai experience

I can't believe we found this listing..we had stayed here back in 2000 when our son's football team flew over to play Waimea. We stayed here and it was a perfect place for our family and one set of grandparents. We had to go to Waimea, Salt Pond, Koke'e and Kapa'a and it was central to all the places we needed to get to. Wonderful home...clean, roomy, well provisioned, private and charming! Thank you for opening your home to us way back in Fall 2000! The cottage looks as beautiful now as it did then.
