Just returned from my 2nd visit to Kalama Kai and the last one was not a dream, this is without a doubt the best deal and location. I have been to all of the islands and they are all great, but this slice of paradise beats them all. Already counting days until next year.

Our stay at the Kalama Cottage for the month of March 2012 was wonderful!! The location is accurately described. Your cottage is so adorably decorated with a tropical theme. It was very comfortable, relaxing and clean with everything you needed. Loved the private yard with all the plantings and especially the awesome lanai for early morning coffee and entertaining with family cookouts. Susan was very helpful with anything you needed. I would highly recommend this property to friends and relatives. Staying at the Kalama Cottage was a true Hawaiian experience. Mahalo Susan for such a wonderful stay!! We miss being there and hope to see you again next year!

I spent the month of February 2012 here and could not have asked for a better place to stay. The cottage exceeded my expectations in every way. In fact, I was so pleased that I reserved it again for Feburary 2013. I wanted a place that was comfortable and quiet and this cottage fit the bill perfectly. I also wanted a location where I could walk and ride my bike (which I purchesed there) to most of Kailua Town and this worked out well too. Also, since chose not to rent a car for the month, I wanted to be close to The Bus line. There was a Bus stop right around the corner from the cottage so, a two minute walk got me to the stop which was a direct line to downtown Honolulu. Susan, the owner, is amazingly nice and helpful. She will give you your privacy, if that's what you prefer but, she is always available to talk to you and work out any concerns or problems you may have. She's so nice that even after I scraped the side of a rental car which I had for one day on her beautiful lava rock wall, she was willing to have me back. However, I would recommend that you not do that! I would also recommend this cottage to anyone.

We loved this little cottage. The owner respected our privacy and we only had contact with her when we needed something. (supplies, etc) The place was just as described in the description and photos. It was chean and eveything that we needed was included. We would highly recommend this cottage to a couple, whether young or old. Very close to amazing Kailua Beach and handy for travel to the North Shore or Honolulu.

Just returned from the best 5 weeks of my life. Have been to every island and Oahu 10 times, nothing compared to the Kalama Kai or Susan. The location is perfect. If you are seeking perfection and total relaxation look no further.

We have stayed in Kailua a number of times and were delighted to find this excellent accomodation for us. It's quiet, local, very well equipped and an easy going, non touristy base to explore the island from or just a short walk to the fabulous Kailua beach. Susan was both welcoming and helpful but lets you get on with it. The nearby beach was the most beautiful we found on the island, and within walking distance. Perfect. We're already saving for our next time at Kalama Kai Cottage.

The month of November was delightful (3rd sojourn at Kalama Cottage) -- couldn't ask for a more charming hostess or a more pleasing home away from home. The cottage is always sparkling clean, the garden wonderful, the lanai the best place in the world to enjoy a meal. And there is everything you would need for your trips to the beach. My household has moved back to Kailua and really really regrets there will no longer be a reason to stay at Kalama Kai Cottage.

My husband & I just got back after spending a week at Kalama Kai Cottage and we couldn't have possibly been more pleased with the accommodations! Everything was exactly as pleasant as pictured here, if not more so! This is ever so much better than staying at a hotel! We sat on the lanai in the mornings to have coffee and watch the various birds and lizards running around and then again in the evening to enjoy the cool breeze while reading. Why anyone stays in Waikiki and goes to a crowded beach when they can stay in Kailua and enjoy a picture perfect, uncrowded beach is beyond my imagination. If you are looking for a great place to stay and really get away from the hustle and noise of the city and truly have a relaxing time, you have got to stay at Kalama Kai. I can honestly say, this is one of the very few times where I really didn't want to return home after being gone for more than just a few days. Susan ~ Mahalo for allowing us the joy of staying at Kalama Kai. It was truly a wonderful stay!

Your cottage is absolutely fantastic! It's quiet, private, comfortable & clean. We loved our stay the Month of January. Weather was great! We enjoyed eating breakfast & dinner on the lanai everyday. We loved being able to read and relax on the lanai. The beach down the street is our new favorite. We hate to leave... Thanks again for your hospitality- We appreciate it. We will be back next year! Keep up the good work!

Love, love, love Kalama Kai Cottage. I was there early November 2009 and have already reserved time for April 2010. What an absolutely enchanting and wonderful way to relax and enjoy Hawaii. Susan and the Cottage are "island spirit" personified. As a former Kailua resident (just a few miles from the Cottage) I couldn't have asked for more. The Cottage is clean, very, very comfortable and chock full of amenities; the full kitchen was particularly appreciated (a real stove, not just a hot plate; a full size refrigerator, not tiny under-counter version); the garden is beautiful and lush, the fountain soothing, the tiki torches a nightly delight; and lots of goodies to use at the beach. Susan is charming and extremely helpful, I can't wait to go back to visit both she and Mojo. Kalama Kai Cottage is highly recommended; this is the best I've found in 15+ vacations in Hawaii.

Our family of four truly enjoyed our stay. The property is well maintained and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Located in the proximity of one of the most beautiful beaches, yet in a driving distance from Honolulu. Thank You Susan for making us feel at home during our first visit to Oahu. We hope that we will come back soon.

We went to Kailua for a wedding and we were so happy to not be staying in the tourist trap of Waikiki (though it is a 20-minute beautiful drive to visit the city). The cottage is everything it is advertised to be and the owner is pleasant, accommodating, and respects your privacy. It was a great, relaxing oasis, with everything you need to cook, do laundry (so you can bring a small carry-on suit case) and focus on enjoying the island. When going to Oahu, we'd definitely stay there again.

We spent two wonderful months at Kalama Kai. Susan made sure that we had everything we needed and more! The cottage was clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated with Hawaiiana and well equipped. The outdoor space is beautiful and private for sunning or reading in the shade. We enjoyed Mojo's visits. It was sad to leave our Hawaiian home!

This cottage was great!! Susan and Chuck thought of everything. Coffee, tea, sugar, a sewing kit, beach towels, beach chairs, laundry detergent, I mean EVERYTHING! The bed was very comfortable, and the cottage was immaculate. My sister and I had a very comfortable stay, and we would definitely come here again. Thank you Susan and Chuck!

This tastily decorated cottage with all the amenities you need for a relaxing holiday was the perfect place to enjoy the old Hawaiian aloha spirit. We cherished all the nice arts and crafts representing Hawaiian culture and enjoyed reading or having our meals on the cosy lanai facing the wonderful garden of the owners. The hosts were very helpful yet gave us all the privacy we needed. If you want to enjoy a long sandy beach in still walking distance but avoid the hustle and bustle of Waikiki this is the ideal place to stay. We wholeheartedly recommend this place for your comfortable and romantic holiday. We are looking forward to coming back soon. Thomas & Silke, visiting from Beijing

This was our second trip to Hawaii in less than a year and it was by far the best. Our Kalama Kai cottege was everything advertised and more. We could not have asked for nicer or more gracious hosts than Susan and Chuck. We can recommend this rental as the best we have ever stayed at. Jack & Marty
Owner response:It makes us so happy to hear reviews like this one. It does mean a great deal to us for many reasons, but mostly just to know that we had a part in making a vacation a great one for one of our friendly visitors. Mahalo!

What a wonderful 11 days we just spent at Kalama Kai Cottage. Everything was so clean and well maintained we couldn't have been more pleased. We found it to be such a central location to many of the Oahu sites we wanted to see but not have to stay in the hustle and bustle. The lanai was so wonderful for kicking back and reading and to just enjoy the beautiful yard. If one doesn't feel like cooking we would recommend "Haleiwa Joe's at Haiku Gardens" in Kaneohe. We were so impressed with the Sunday brunch we had to go back for dinner the night before we left Oahu. Thank you Susan, Chuck and Mojo for allowing us to have a wonderful stay at Kalama Kai Cottage. We look forward to returning and letting our friends know about your wonderful retreat. Marty and Jack

This was our 4th trip to the Hawaiian Islands. Although we enjoyed each trip, this by far was the most relaxing one yet. We both agree that mainly it was due to our accommodations at Kalama Kai Cottage. Away from the usual tourist hustle-bustle, we found the place so peaceful and quiet. After a day’s outing to experience the beautiful island, it was like coming home – the cottage was so comfortable. The cleanliness and all of the amenities were very much appreciated. If we are fortunate enough to come back to Oahu, there would be no hesitation in staying with you again. Susan and Chuck, thank you for everything!
