Charter a sail boat or rent kayaks and visit the islands in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, rated Number 2 on a National Geographic Traveler's list of top ten national parks. Tour a historic lighthouse or paddle into colorful seacaves carved by Lake Superior waves. Take the ferry to Madeline Island and spend a day biking, swimming and picnicking on the beach.

Downtown Bayfield offers plenty of shops with unique gifts and a variety of restaurants ranging from the Candy Shoppe (try the wine bread) to eclectic Maggie's festooned with pink flamingos to Wild Rice, one of the most highly rated restaurants in Northern Wisconsin.   • I have stayed in the Writer's Cottage on several occasions. The house is very nice, very clean, has a modest view of the lake, and is only a couple of blocks from downtown. The owner is a neat lady who is really easy to work with. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you like Lake Superior and Northern Wisconsin.
