This cabin, set on 77 acres in Albemarle County, has been our family retreat since 1999. Start your memories with your family and friends here! The cabin is rustic but not primitive. Cozy, open floor plan. Three levels create three separate sleeping and playing areas that are great for families of all ages or weekends away from kids! Dont let the 2 bedroom listing fool you!

The great room has ample seating to sit in front of the fireplace. It opens to the large dining table that seats 8-10. The kitchen overlooks the dining and great room.

The master is on the main floor w/ Q. bed and closet with walkout onto 10' wraparound porch. The upstairs loft has (2) twins, a desk, and a well stocked child's play area. Games, books, cars, crayons. Nice private play area for the kids. The downstairs has a private guest room w/ Q. bed and walkout to patio w/ mtn views. The large family room downstairs has a pullout sofa, a futon and a bunk bed w/ twin on top and pullout double on the bottom. Private bath downstairs.

The site is 20 minutes from downtown Charlottesville and Wintergreen Ski and Golf Resort in the other direction.

Gather round the firepit for spectacular sunset views of Afton Mountain. Hiking trails are perfect for the casual and experienced hikers. Even mountain biking is challenging. FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE (4WD) is recommended, but not required, to get up the driveway! It is a very remote cabin, we recommend that you purchase all food and beverage (and ICE) before you come!

We will consider dogs under 30 lbs. Club Membership includes priority bookings. Perfect privacy for long term renters or if you are building a home nearby.

Wonderful family weekend retreat!

Guest: Wanda (Jamesville, NC)
Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 07/25/11

Our family gathered here for a weekend to "catch up and connect again" since our four grown sons now live in different states. It was a great experience! The remote location was perfect for those who now live in cities. Being raised as country boys "down on the farm" they appreciated the sounds of the woods, birds, the night sky without light pollution, the cool breeze in the trees, the quietness. We all loved the wrap-around porch with hammock, the big living room area for conversations, the separate bedrooms for the sleeping baby and naps for anyone so inclined. The big table on the porch overlooking the mountains is where we ate all of our meals together. I loved the three levels which offered spaciousness and opportunity to have some privacy, if desired. It must be emphasized that the drive up to the cabin will require a vehicle just as the owner indicated. The property was well-maintained. The photos on the web site were accurate. I would recommend this site for a romantic get-away or for two couples to have a long weekend in the area. Four of us left the cabin and drove to the Appalachian Trail (hiked a few minutes at Rockfish Gap) and drove a few miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway, drove to Crozet, VA (Dairy Queen) and were back within three hours. Two of our sons and their wives didn't want to leave the cabin .... just wanted to relax there. Before we left that weekend, our guys were already planning for another Shenandoah Valley get-away.

Gorgeous setting, great family home

Guest: Lauren (Virginia)

We spent a long October weekend at Second Saddle and absolutely loved it! Firewood was provided in the fire pit, the house was toasty warm, and the fall colors were to die for. The Fishers were kind enough to let us reschedule when a September hurricane messed up our plans. Can't recommend this property enough. We were in good driving distance of Charlottesville, Skyline Drive, Crozet Pizza (go there for dinner!) and Barboursville winery. Great stay!

Stink Bug infested!!! It's disgusting! Bugs living in the dining room table!! UGH

Guest: Teresa (Buffalo, New York)
Date of Stay: 11/11/10 Review Submitted: 01/02/11

This property is severely infested with stink bugs! From the loft to the basement, they're everywhere! Hundreds of them! They're in all of the furniture, including the beds, living room couch and chairs, and even between the leafs and crevices of the dining room table! Much of our time spent there, was fighting off bugs. Very difficult to get a good nights sleep! They were so disgusting!!! I would never recommend this cabin to anyone, or visit again.

Owner response:This customer had the unfortunate experience of a region-wide, well publicized infestation of stink bugs in the Charlottesville & metro area. This issue has been resolved, the bugs were removed and the guest was refunded. The scathing review is unwarranted and cabin is back in pristine condition !

Just Like Home

Guest: BigMacs (Virginia Beach, VA)

All I can say is wow! This home is beautiful inside and out and the owners were very nice and helpful. I rented this home last minute and the owner was very accomodating. Even when we had an issue with the satellite service, they were there to answer our questions and were very eager to help. This home is absolutely beautiful and a wonderful retreat from busy everyday life. This cabin has the feel of home and is a wonderful place for peace and relaxation!

Idyllic Retreat

Guest: ETE (Norman, Oklahoma)
Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 07/26/10

Our family of four spent a wonderfully restful week at this cabin. The photographs really do not do this exceptionally well-maintained property justice. We spent a great deal of time at the fire pit and on the wrap-around porch, but the tastefully-appointed interior provided a cool respite on the rare occasions that the mountain breezes did not provide sufficient protection against the July heat. Additionally, when three additional family members joined us later in the week, we had sleeping room to share. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that we hope to repeat.
