Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1969
This is a family home that we have had for over 40 years. We have loved spending winters skiing here and summers swimming in the lake. We have just begun sharing the wonderful peace of our home with renters. I am a local school teacher and live nearby and manage the property for my family.
Why the Owner Chose Wilmington
The proximity to the metropolitan areas in the northeast make for easy access to this property for our extended family.
The local community of Wilmington, Vermont is friendly and has a wide variety of activities and amenities. Lake Raponda is a charming and peaceful spot. A place to enjoy nature, a truly Vermont experience. Ducks, Otters, Beavers, Kingfishers, Loons and Great Blue Herons are among the wildlife viewed from the lakeside porch. There is a variety of outdoor activities right outside the door, including swimming, hiking and ice skating in winter.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
The living room of the cabin offers an antique Estey organ and an upright piano that you can enjoy playing and singing along to. Our cabin on the lake, is the place we come to in order to unplug from all the stresses of life. We have had family reunions here for 40 years, and a few weddings too!
Our favorite pastime is just sitting on the porch and watching all the activity on the lake after a nice brisk hike along the nearby trails.
In the evening we enjoy being together as a family playing a variety of board games and puzzles, which are available at the cabin.

We first stayed at the cabin in the summer of 2010 and returned in 2011! The 1924 cabin is very charming, neat and tidy, and homey. It feels like you are traveling back in time. We practically lived on the front porch with shade and breezes from the lake below. Being at the end of the lake was peaceful and private. We enjoyed using the canoe and taking a swim from the dock. We walked the roads in the area and found old homesteads and great views. The location was perfect for getting to a farm stand and into Wilmington, Brattleboro and beyond. We call it Lake RaypondAhhhhhhh.
Owner response:We have had so many wonderful family gatherings here, and now we are enjoying sharing our cabin on the lake with others.

The first time renting this cabin but not the first time on lake Raponda. We love the area and come back every year. The cabin easily accommodate 4 adults and 3 children. We loved the canoe and deck. Great fishing, hiking. There is a little beach area in walking distance from the cabin.

The house was perfect for the 7 of us. The main problem was the "waterfront." We're swimmers and getting into and out of the lake was a problem (lots of large rocks to stumble over and 8" of muck on the bottom). A better site for boating. Owner was very accomodating.
Owner response:This is a mountain lake and does have a mud floor. We have added sand to help swimmers walk into the lake! :)
Recommended for:Pet owners, families with teenagers.

Spent one week here August '08. Would be here again this summer except for family obligations. Excellent fishing, boating, swimming. Peaceful--cabin situated so you barely know your neighbors are there. Cabin very spacious-plenty of room for kids and their friends. Modern kitchen. Love the porch overlooking the lake. Pleased that canoe was included. Used it alot. Restaurants in Wilmington, Brattleboro and Bennington--all within 1/2 hours drive. Hope to be back again someday. Family time was precious here.

I have stayed in this cabin on two occasiosns, once during summer, and another during Vermot's glorious foliage time in October. Both experiences were delightful. The view from the porch and main bedroom are idyllic, right "on golden pond". It is a true log cabin with rustic aesthetics but compete comfort. There are artistic touches like hand painted cabinetry and big comfy living room with lake views. I found it peaceful, restorative, and cozy. I will most definitely return and recommend it to my friends. My husband and I stayed once, and another time came with a group. It sleeps quite a few and makes a lovely group getaway as well as cozy romantic retreat. The town of Wilmington (3 minute drive to town center) is filled with charming shops and good food, including our breakfast favorite, Dot's. Though nothing beats a good hot coffee and a good book on the porch of this cabin!

I loved this place, it was the perfect, relaxing vacation that we wanted. It was so peaceful being on the lake, eating dinner on the porch, and enjoying the fire place at night. We had a great time and plan on going back.

My fiance and I love this cabin. We had a great time here, it is the perfect get away. It was great being right on the water and we went out on the canoe almost every day. We sat on the porch and watched the sunset. The place is beautiful and we plan on going back for another vacation. It is a great place to relax.

We especially enjoyed our summer visit, where we often had dinner on the porch overlooking the lake. The owner put in much attention to detail, and included a binder full of information on local activities, which we took advantage of. The home is spacious and lovely, very well maintained. We will be back!!

I have stayed in this cabin twice before, once in summer and once in Fall. It is just as pictured - charming, and with everything you need. My favorite thing was waking up to a view of the lake through the master bedroom window, and sitting on the magnificent porch looking out onto a scene of serenity - Lake Raponda is just like the movie "On Golden Pond". I could not recommend this peaceful and charming cabin more highly and intend to return again this summer, and fall. Bed was comfortable, kitchen full of light and the scenery perfect.

This is paradise! We have stayed here several times. The home is spacious yet cozy. We love to have dinner on the porch overlooking the lake, enjoying the quiet beauty of the woods and the water. And yet, it's just a short drive to a great flea market, restaurants and galleries.
