Location: Claryville, Catskills, New York, USA (120 miles from NYC; 20 mins from Liberty)

Accommodations:  Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

Escape to this cheerful, comfortable cottage in the mountains where you can kick back and relax in a tranquil setting, with the sound of the Neversink River providing the background music.

Curl up with a book by the fire; fish for trout right outside the door (or on the Willowemoc or Beaverkill nearby); cycle to the Country Store for your morning bagels; hit the slopes at Belleayre Mountain (45 mins) or Hunter Mt. (about 1 hr); head to any of NY State's local hiking trails; make s'mores and tell tall tales by the bonfire pit; enjoy evening cocktails on the deck and watch the hummingbirds dart between the quince and honeysuckle; cross-country ski on 20 miles of mapped trails nearby at the Frost Valley YMCA; or take a drive along lazy country roads and revel in the autumnal splendor. The Cottage is a convenient 30 mins from the beautiful new Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, and under 10 mins from the New Age Health Spa.

This recently renovated cozy hideaway is used regularly by its owner and, as such, offers a warm welcome with tasteful decoration and the comforts of home. Ideal for two couples or a small family, but please, no more than four adults.

  • Deck/Patio: Wraparound deck overlooking the woods in back and the expanse of lawn on the side. And another deck in the front, just beyond sliding doors from the dining area, where I have 2 Adirondack chairs. You can often view deer ambling by at dusk.

  • Waterfront, not Lake/Oceanfront. Ask for details: Just through the woods is the Neversink River, which you can hear as you nod off to sleep. A great place to sit and ease into the day with a cup of coffee.

  • Frost Valley YMCA has a wide variety of outdoor activities, the new Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is 30 mins away, Golf (at Grossinger's and other courses), Swimming (in the river or at the Grahamsville town pool), Downhill Skiing (at Belleayre), Belleayre Mountain is about 45 mins away for skiing; the New Age Health Spa in Neversink is just down the road and offers top notch services (they have a website).
