Make a lifetime of vacation memories at 'Mama Bear' at Bear Lake. Amazing view of Lake and Mountains. Fish for trout or small mouth bass, enjoy the view from hot tub and large decks, shoot some pool, or just watch the leaves change color. Enjoy 200 feet of shoreline, and private boat dock near the public boat access. Bring your boat and tour the waterfalls. Kayak, Canoe, and Tube and Boat rental nearby(Call TJ's Water Adventures (828)293-5110 to reserve a boat or kayak during your stay at Mama Bear). Part of the Nantahala National Forest.
'Mama Bear', a remodeled older home(circa 1980's), is only a short drive to Sylva, Dillsboro, Cashiers, and Highlands. There are many fun things to do in Cherokee; and Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood are excellent 1 day excursions. Drive to Cataloochee and see the Elk or see a show at the Cherokee Casino. Call Western Carolina University to check the entertainment schedule and plan to catch a concert, play, athletic event, or craft show there. Mountain Heritage Day, held the last Saturday in September, is always a great reason to visit the area.
Perfect getaway for one family or for a group. Great location for church men's, women's, or youth retreats. What a wonderful place for the whole family to share Thanksgiving or Christmas together. Sleeping includes 2 King beds, 2 Queen beds, 1 sleeper sofa. There are 2 Rock Gas-Log Fireplaces. Canoe, and life jackets available for use.

Year Purchased: 2006
We purchased this home because of the view in 2005. Mama Bear was built in 1985 and needed some upgrades. We have done many remodeling projects at Mama Bear. We look forward to enjoying relaxing days there in the future. We live 20 minutes from Bear Lake and are thankful each time we read the guest book and see that other families have enjoyed staying at Mama Bear.
Why the Owner Chose Cashiers
We chose to buy a vacation rental in this location because of the amazing view! We enjoy the peace and quiet, the beautiful lake, the mountains that change with each season, and the wildlife we've see while canoeing or boating in one of TJ's rental boats.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We've enjoyed watching beavers, osprey, and skunk :), catching walleye & large mouth bass, roasting marshmallows, hot-tubbing, canoeing, and just enjoying the quiet at Mama Bear.
