This is a beautiful home. My husband and I enjoyed our stay there. Loved the golf carts and the bikes. The home has everything you will need. The views are fantastic and it is convenient to everything on the island.

Overall the trip was excellent. Position of the house was wonderful -- out the door to the beach, great sunsets, ship & wildlife watching. We relaxed immediately. House needs a little work (I'm sure maintenance in that environment never stops) but was very comfortable & homey. The Island Market was not well supplied -- produce was so, so; meat expensive; & they ran out of things. Could have been the time of the year but wasn't like the Fresh Market on Hilton Head. Recommend bringing more over from the mainland. The Pelicatessen was a great place to eat. Very accommoding & would split salads & sandwiches. Recommend a few hours at the Frying Pan Shoals & beach.
Owner response:Thank you for your review. We are glad that you had a nice trip. Yes, maintenance never stops. We have to manage repairs in between renters too. Since you checked out we have replaced the two double doors upstairs and replaced two air conditioners. If their was anything else that is need of attention you can e-mail me as we are constantly striving to keep our home in tip top shape!

Bald Head Island is a unique and tranquil spot off the Atlantic coast of North Carolina. We found "A World Away" to be the perfect location to enjoy all the island had to offer. It's views from both inside and out could not be beat. The sunsets were amazing. It was the perfect place and way to end the day. If you seek a clean, comfortable and well equipped rental home for your vacation then this home is for you. We certainly enjoyed it so much our family is already strategizing when we will return!

We had a very nice time in our week at this house. Everything was clean upon our arrival and in good working condition. This was our second trip to BHI, and we just absolutely love the island. This is one of the prettiest beach locations you will find along the SE coast, and it is as relaxing as it gets. The 2nd floor porch that faces the beach is a great place to drink your coffee in the morning and watch the sunset in the evening. A great view of the ocean, the boats and ships passing by, and Oak Island. Our favorite beach on the island is east beach, favorite restuarant is Eb and Flo's in the harbor (it's nothing fancy, but the setting is great), and favorite activity is cruising around in the golf cart in the evening, exploring the island. We'll be back next summer!

We just enjoyed the most peaceful, relaxed family vacation we have ever had. The house is as beautiful as it looks in the photos. The views cannot possibly be captured in photos. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The beach was quiet in late May-we nearly had the whole stretch to ourselves. Got to witness the relocation of a Loggerhead Turtle nest on our beach one morning after it was laid too close to the water the night before. Exploring the island on the golf cart was a blast. Bald Head Island itself is BEAUTIFUL in a natural, understated sort of way. Cannot recommend local restaurants because we never needed them since we enjoyed cooking at the house and eating on our own schedule, although everything you might need can be found at the Marketplace grocery store. If you are looking for somewhere to stay put and relax, this is the best!

My family has stayed at this home twice now, once in spring and once in late summer. The house's layout is really wonderful, spacious common areas, upscale bedrooms and bathrooms, and wonderfully comfortable furnishings. The golf carts, bikes, beach chairs and toys make it easy to travel light and still have a full-fledged beach getaway. And the location...at the end of a quiet street with access to the beach directly in front of the house...really couldn't be better. You have a prime spot for viewing boat traffic in and out of the nearby port, amazing sunsets, etc., and it is not unusual to have a large section of the beach to yourself. We can't imagine going to BHI and staying anywhere else!

What a fantastic house and location. The house was just steps away from the beach and convenient to everything on the island. So close to the BHI club and pool. We enjoyed amazing sunsets with a perfect breeze right from the porch. Very clean and with all the comforts of home. Rooms and beds were spacious and comfortable. We brought our 15 month old daughter and found it nice to have so many baby friendly items ready for us to use. Oh and we loved wathcing the deer feed from the dunes right outside the house. What a wonderful vacation. Thank you Davis family for sharing your beautiful home. We will be back.

This was the perfect family destination! This beautiful home is situated right on the beach and a short golf cart ride from the pool at the club. Fishing, golf, pool, snack bar, shopping, NO STRESS!!! We met terrific friends who happened to be fulltime residents. Everyone is so friendly and relaxed. The home is wonderfully laid out and well appointed. For this location, you can not beat the price. We have been to many places on the coast of North and South Carolina, and by far this is best! The owner was terrific in answering our many questions before our arrival. Don't miss this one.

Wow! My sisters and I spent a much anticipated, well-deserved long weekend getaway at BHI, and without a doubt, we hit the jackpot with this beauty! The views magnificent, the location perfect, and last but certainly not least, this home is definitely out of this world! Absolutely magnificent, and with every amenity you could possibly think of! Sue was more than accommodating in supplying any information I may have needed prior to our arrival. This is definitely on our list of best places we've ever spent our yearly "sister getaway". We may even have to do a repeat!

Our family beach trip to BHI was spectacular, largely in part to our stay at this wonderful property. "A World Away" offers beautiful views and an abundance of amenities. This house and the owners were accommodating in every way.

We had the pleasure of renting Sue's home in July 2009. Each summer we have stayed at different homes on the island so as to experience the various habitats. Sue's home was the ultimate. Everything was clean and fresh. The beds were very comfortable-no backache in the morning! The kitchen was well stocked so we could cook in most of our meals. Access to the beach was simple and convenient. The garage was well stocked with beach equipment and the golf cart worked perfectly.

The house was just what we had hoped for, the time spent at "A World Away" was so relaxing. The sunsets, views, dolphins playing in the water, the fox who traveled the beach daily looking for turtle eggs was so entertaining. We are sure that many of the people who have stayed here are repeat customers, as we know we will be! The Davis's are fantastic to rent from and have a beautiful place to escape to. We're jealous!! LOL Thank you for sharing, we loved it!!! We'll be back!! Toni & Philip (Mooresville, NC)

My family had a great time staying at "A World Away." My son loved watching the ships come and go and seeing both lighthouses from the balcony. The kitchen was well equiped and the house was nicely furnished. We hope to stay there again next year.

Our family has been coming to Bald Head for fourteen years. We have tried eleven different locations and this the 12th (A World Away)was the best. The breeze and views from the upstairs porch were fabulous. The location close to BHI club and at the end of a cul-de-sac was both convenient and private.

Wow! What an incredible vacation!! This home sits facing the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Fear River, and some of the most gorgeous sunsets we have ever seen. We walked in to find a beautifully furnished place with two large bedrooms and baths that exceeded our expectations. We had lots to do on the island... biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, and we enjoyed time at both the islands private clubs. (worth joining both!) We will definitely rent this home on our next trip to Bald Head!!!! Thanks! Jon and Brooke Beatty

Wow! My husband and I stayed at this home and were so plesantly surprised at the size and quality of the furnighings. Not your typical rental. The Davis'have done everything possible to make their home a first class rental. One that you would not ordinarilly find in a rental pool. Thank you both for sharing your home and keeping it in such tip top condition. It all was just like brand new and very clean. WE will return often. Sincerely Diane Heichel

Our first stay on Bald Head Island and the VRBO owner comments are modest. The island and the rental property are top notch. Our expectations were exceeded. We could not have stayed at a better home. We would recommend this property to the most discerning and we will definitely go back again.

We've stayed in various places on the island, but none captured the magic of Bald Head like "A World Away." The beauty, serenity and warmth of the home highlighted everything the island has to offer. And the owners were totally committed to helping us in every way possible. "A World Away" will always be our first choice for Bald Head Island.

Our family of 5 stayed here the last week of July 2007. We had the most wonderful week! We saw a great variety of birds, a fox, many turtles, two snakes, and one alligator (a real one). The beach was fabulous, the sunsets simply amazing, and the house grand and comfortable. It was truly “A World Away”.
