Our family stayed at the Coral Garden Inn for over two weeks in August. Our girls keep on asking us to take them back there because they miss the coral gardens (beautiful circular coral formations with fish "flying" between the corals about 50 feet off the beach), the friends (Augusta the caretaker’s girls), the pets both in and out of the water (cats, dogs, fish, crabs, birds, lobsters, shrimps, etc.) and the kids' pool (Augusta's children built a little shallow sea-pool with conch shells and rocks). The inn is beautiful, very clean, and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed having our meals on the porch. We had the entire beach area to ourselves. The only visitors were the food trucks and a group of Mexican scientists surveying the conch growth in the water in front of the house. There are hundreds of huge conches in the water. The water is crystal clear and calm, and there are beautiful coral growths right off shore. The water is shallow and calm enough for toddlers to swim in. The inn serves as a great base for venturing out. The town of Xcalak is only a few minutes away, and has several shops with food supplies and other things. We had several nice meals at Toby’s. The children loved the fish tacos and fresh fries. We drove to Mahahual and Chetumal and got fresh pineapples on the road to Chetumal. The vendors come right to the road and you just pull your car over and buy it. Truly fresh pineapple is impossibly good! Don’t miss out the diving and snorkeling trips offered by XTC Dive Center. We made it to Banco Chinchorro, which was amazing. The staff at XTC are unbelievably cool, and even baked a cake for our 10 year old’s birthday, completed with relighting candles ?. Roberta and Ron are gracious hosts. Roberta is patient, responsive and very knowledgeable.

Owner response: Thank you for such a positive review. We are happy to hear how much your family fully enjoyed the house, the beach, the caretaker family and the small community of Xcalak. This is the kind of patronage we like to support, where vacationers can create a home away from home and desire to return year after year.

We really did enjoy ourselves
We had a great time in Xcalak! I am an owner of a rental vacation home in Colorado and I always apreciate feedback so I thought I would pass on some thoughts. We really did enjoy ourselves and found your caretakers to be very attentive and a wonderful advantage to our children's entertainment! The units were well kept and we had fresh towels every few days as we needed them. We did a lot of cooking and also found the kitchen well stocked with basic seasonings and such (we left some of our own as well!). I would consider upgrading a few things like knives and surveying some of the pans the next time you are there. However, all and all we did have a great time and did have a wonderful experience. Thank you so much for sharing your home! Owners note* We agree the knives did need upgrading. They are much better now. We appreciate the honest, helpful feedback from our guests.

What a Treat!Guest comment entered by owner
What a Treat!
During an incredible exploration of the Yuctan, we stayed at Coral Carden Inn. What a treat! The coral reefs are just steps from your door filled with amazing creatures. My ten-year old niece snorkeled for six hours a day -- just couldn't get enough of it. If not in the water, my favorite place was a chair under the palms on the beach. Augusto, the caretaker, was always very helpful. His family is a delight -- the kids came over and invited my niece to play crossing all language barriers. If I ever get a chance to get back to Xcalak which I hope to do, I'll definitely stay at Carol Garden Inn again. -- Chris Sturgis

We had a wonderful stay at Coral Garden! Everything was just perfect. It was so nice to see the "family". Juana and Agusto were perfect - did a great job ensuring that everything was in good shape. Saw beautiful birds! Kayaked in the lagoon. Saw beautiful fish and rays and squid. Ate great food at the "Leaky" and at home (bought fresh shrimp from a passerby). We played Bocce with the kids,so much fun,and we left the Bocce set there for them. We have had so many wonderful, magical times here!

The palce is lovelier each year
We arrived home yesterday. The weather was great except for a couple of days which was truly a non issue. Our stay was excellent. Peaceful. One of the things we like the most about the inn is the privacy. The water was warm and very clear, even with the winds.....which kept temperatures pleasant. The place becomes lovelier each year. Love the trellis upstairs. Meals at Leaky Palapa were excellent. We plan on returning next year I think this was our 4th or 5th year at your place.

Our tropical paradise
It's great to be back!! What a warm welcome we got from the caretakers. We bought some lobsters yesterday and the ladies at Leaky Palapa are going to prepare them for us. Sounds like we just made it here just in time. Our place has had 8-9 inches of snow, power and phone out. It's back on now and I feel kinda bad communicating with folks there as we bask in this tropical paradise drinking tequilla and eating fresh lobster, all the wonderful fruit, etc.

We love the hotel and the beach. There is nothing better than getting up and watching the sun rise over the sea followed by some snorkeling from your own private paradise.Agusto and Juana were great hosts. We always enjoy them and the children.

Another great trip!
When we drove into the town of XcalaK, we were very happy and started to relax immediately. My husband and son went scuba diving two days and were really excited about all the sea life they saw. They also went to catch some lion fish and we learned they were delicious to eat. Our 5 year old daughter played from 7 am to 8 pm with the caretaker's children next door. They are a lovely family and very helpful. We can't wait to come back again and let our friends know about this wonderfull sea garden

Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: In 2004, while on a 2 week vacation into the Yucatan, we chose Xcalak as an out of the way destination to relax and enjoy snorkeling and diving, our 2 favorite activities. That was the beginning of an exciting and enriching adventure that we enjoy sharing with guests who return year after year. Two months of every year we live at the Inn and enjoy the tropical breezes and calm, clear waters within the protective reef. We love our spacious, airy, 2 bedroom suites nestled close to the gently lapping waves that are only 60 feet from our porch. We hope to share our tropical paradise with you and have taken great pleasure in detailing the rooms with local Mayan arts and textiles.
Why the Owner Chose Xcalak:
We invested in this Villa because of the obvious beauty of the area and friendliness of its local people. The tranquility and its seclusion allows us the slowed down pace we need between our busy lives in the wine country of northern California. The rest and relaxation we experience while reading, snorkeling, diving and just hanging out in a swinging hammock is all the reasons why we enjoy this special retreat and hope you will too.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Fun Things to Do - Walks on the beach, snorkeling with schools of fish along the coral banks, scuba diving the dozens of world class underwater canyons, a sports enthusiasts destination for great fishing, reading that novel that you've been dying to get to, visiting awe inspiring ruins of the proud Mayan people, eating great food, and reaquainting yourself with those you love.
