Welcome to the world of John Walker. A Scotsman who made his way to Hawaii as a young man in the 1870's to become a contractor of choice to Queen Liliuokalani, and erect such notable buildings as the Bishop Museum and Honolulu Hale (City Hall).
His inviting presence is felt in the structure of this, his favorite hideaway on Lanikai Beach. Once entered, this enchanting environment transports you back to an era of graceful living, where the worries of the world are lost in the luxury of sea, sand and restful surroundings. Today the house contains just the right combination or added comforts in kitchen, sauna, guest quarters and “boat house”, and elements of charm carefully preserved from a richly felt past.
One of the first homes to take advantage of Lanikai’s heavenly reef-protected waters and natural stretch of white sand beach, John Walker’s Beach House set the standard by which the surrounding community grew…a standard which has been nurtured by his family through the years for you to enjoy. Although only with us in spirit, John Walker’s love of Lanikai is preserved by his great grand daughter who oversees, this, one of his most revered places on earth!

When my Bear family and friends chose to stay in “John Walker’s Beach House” located on Lanikai Beach, we couldn’t have picked a better place to spend the week. We were welcomed by our host with a basket of fresh fruit and beautiful flowers.
This house was built in the 1920’s, but had all of the modern conveniences you want when you are on vacation. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed in order to prepare our meals.
The main house included 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bedrooms were good-sized and the beds were wonderful to sleep in after our long days spent on Lanikai Beach. Have a group larger than 6 guests? In addition to the main house, you can also rent a guesthouse and boat house on the property.
Every morning we woke up early to view the beautiful sunrises and walk along the beach. The water was very calm due to the offshore reef, making it the perfect beach for families with children. During low tide, we enjoyed snorkeling as well as beachcombing for beach glass and shells. Plus, we had a great time going kayaking in the bay and even paddled out to the nearby Mokulua Islands.
Kailua Town was a 5 minute drive from Lanikai which made it convenient for grocery, clothes and souvenir shopping. If you don’t feel like cooking, Kailua offered a variety of restaurants including Mexican food, Chinese food, pizza, burgers and more. If you’re seeking even more shopping, eating and sightseeing opportunities, Honolulu is only a 30 minute drive. However, it’s hard to tear yourself away from beautiful Lanikai Beach!
If you are looking for a great beach getaway, this Bear says to look no further. “John Walker’s Beach House” is the perfect place to stay!
