This old Villa is located in the ancient village of Gottasecca, one of the oldest settlements of the Langhe region of Northern Italy. The village is built on a dominant position on the hills just north of the Italian Riviera. These hills are called the "Langhe" and are well known for their outstanding wine and cuisine.
The village was founded before 1000 AD, and formerly was called Lavaniola. The town changed its name to Gottasecca, which means "dry drop," following a drought in the middle ages. The event is recalled in a manuscript of 998 AD. The town was very important along the "salt route" until the end of the middle ages. As a matter of fact, one could see its name written in bigger font than that of Milan in the Cartography Hall of the Vatican Museum in Rome.
At the present time Gottasecca is as beautiful as ever with a stable population of 400. Do not be surprised if you cannot locate it on the map! Peaceful natural beauty and delicious local cuisine are among the most appealing features of this location. On the other hand, several tourist attractions are not too far.
