As an added bonus, Casa Arequipa is a ‘green home’. The house is real adobe, one of the best insulating building products available. It was originally built to be passive solar and the large windows provide lovely warmth and light. In addition, new dual pane windows have been installed, unscented, non-toxic products are used for cleaning and laundry and are supplied for guest use. Organic cotton sheets for chemical free sleep are provided as well as locally made, plant based, bath soaps. CFL and LED bulbs have been installed in the majority of fixtures and solar lighting is exclusively used outside. Non-electric clocks with rechargeable batteries and a recharger are available and the garden is watered via a drip irrigation system. The owners have also signed up for pollution free, renewable wind generated electricity through Kit Carson Electric Co-op. They have purchased ten 100 kilowatt blocks through their Green Power program, offsetting the environmental impact of driving 24,000 miles!

Legend has it that an Incan leader exclaimed 'ari quepay' (Yes, let’s stop here in Quechuan) when he found just the right place to live...and so the city of Arequipa, Peru, was born. We felt the same way when we found Casa Arequipa and hope you will as well, making our home your home for all your visits to Taos.

After lots of online shopping, I booked this house for three couples of longtime friends, and we enjoyed our stay so much. We cooked inside one night, grilled another night, and enjoyed our outside time on the patio in the lovely courtyard since the weather was perfect. Although the living room furniture (except for the sofa) could be a little more comfy for us older folks who enjoy sitting around together, reading and talking, it definitely fits the decor and style of the house, and we were in and out a lot anyway, eating, shopping, and sightseeing. Pictures and descriptions were accurate, and there were helpful notes about use of particular things in the home. It was extremely clean and well maintained, and we did not need anything that wasn't already there or were able to make do with something else. If and when we are able to return I hope this house will still be available as it was perfect for us. Thanks so much for making it available!!

Owner response: Thank you so much for your review. I appreciate your comment about the living room. I am always looking for ways to make the house the best it can be! Sadly that space is awkward with too much furniture, so next time, please feel free to just pull the couch back and bring in the chairs from the sunroom. We don't mind guests moving furniture as long as they put it back before they leave. I am glad you had a great time and look forward to your future visits.

This home is everything the pictures depict, and more!! I would highly recommend this home to any family or couple vacationing in Taos. My husband and I, our 2 dogs, spent 26 days here and had the most wonderful environment to enjoy our stay. There were days I didn't want to leave the house, just read on the back patio and smell the flowers, not to mention cool moon lit nights in the hot tub. All the comforts of home, not wanting for anything!!! Ojo Caliente is just 45 min away, world class spa and mineral springs. We had time to travel to Santa Fe, Angel Fire, Eagles Nest, Red River. Galleries', musems, and resturants galore. Extremely quiet and private. The owners of this home have to be very special people, even though I have not met them I know them through the energy of the home, peaceful and warm. Enjoy your stay!!!

Owner response: Thank you so much for the lovely review. It has taken me a long time to respond as I got up to Taos myself and got busy with all sorts of fun projects. Next time you stay with us (and hopefully there will be a next time), you will find a new kitchen island! It adds a great work space and storage in the kitchen. I hope you had a wonderful rest of the summer and we look forward to your staying with us in the future.

My wife and I have stayed at Casa Arequipa several times, and each has been a real treat. The house is comfortable and relaxing, with "all the comforts of home." Many rentals at which we've stayed have seemed lacking in kitchen utensils or some amenities, but this Casa truly feels like home. The 3 beautiful bedrooms are located at opposite corners of the house, giving 3 couples plenty of privacy. The beds are wonderfully comfortable. Whether you enjoy stargazing in the hot tub, morning coffee on the front patio while looking at Taos Mountain, sitting around the Kiva fireplace and talking, or relaxing on the back portal in the fabulous garden after a hard day's sight-seeing, this place has it all. The kitchen is large, fully equipped and gorgeous. I just can't recommend this home highly enough!

We stayed at this house on a motorcycle tour from the Denver area. It was such a welcome respite from staying in a hotel. The location was ideal and affordable when sharing with others. I look forward to staying again.

We stayed at this house with two other couples on a motorcycle tour from the Denver area. The house was beautiful, clean and ready to go. We were fortunate enough to have the master with a private bath so that was very nice for us. The back yard and deck area of the house was outstanding, great for afternoon drinks and socializing. Although the dirt road and the gravel drive were not overly condusive to touring motorcycles we avoided night riding and did fine. I would definitely recommend this property.

Owner response: Enjoying the back patio, glass of wine in hand, is one of my favorite things about Casa Arequipa. At least 3 seasons of the year, it is lovely to sit outside in the sanctuary of the garden. I can see where the road and drive would be a challenge on a motorcycle. I am glad you were able to make that work. We look forward to future visits from you, perhaps via car! Thank you so much for your review.

As titled, the views out the front door were absolutely gorgeous! We stayed at Casa Arequipa for three nights and we found it to be centralized to everything we wanted to do during our visit. Just 5 minutes from Taos, we enjoyed shopping during the day and quiet evenings outside of the hustle and bustle of tourist season. The house itself was fabulous! Each room had its own charm which was reflected in bright colors and lots of Spanish, Mexican, and Southwestern accents. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with everything needed to make a gourmet meal. Our favorite part was the huge rustic table which provided the perfect space for us to play games and share stories about the day. The back yard features beautiful landscaping and the smell of sagebrush in the air was intoxicating. My family and I are already thinking about our next trip to Taos and definetly want to stay at Casa Arequipa again. On a final note, the check in and check out procedures were very easy to follow and the caretakers leave lots of info. for you to look over when you arrive. Check it out!!!!

Owner response: We are so glad you had such a great time. That table was bought by my grandparents on their honeymoon in Italy, despite clearly being Spanish! During the depression it was put into use at a home for boy's in Virginia. It is wonderful and we love it for it's usefulness and it's history. Thank you for your beautifully written review. We look forward to your future visits.

I spent a week at this charming house a few summers ago, joined by my husband and 20-something year old daughter. The house was attractive, extremely comfortable and clean, with a lovely, relaxing back yard. We know the owners well and have complete trust in them - they are diligent about creating a safe, pleasant, and well functioning house, and they are great to deal with. They helped us figure out what to do in the area, which was wonderful. While there we travelled frequently into nearby Taos center for meals - many fun restaurants, shopping - interesting stores and craft items, evening dancing at a local saloon-type place (can't remember the name, sorry), visited the Pueblo, and hiked in the fabulous mountains and valleys. My husband and daughter went on a rafting trip and loved it. The natural sites are awesome. We have been trying to carve out a time to return, and are delighted to recommend this venue (and have) to others.

Owner response: I really appreciate past renters taking the time to put up reviews. So many guests stayed at Casa Arequipa before reviews were available. Thank you so much. I hope you will be able to carve out some time in the near future. Casa Arequipa is waiting to welcome you back again.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 days and it was the most relaxing place we have stayed at in our many of vrbo experiences. We stayed more at the house than exploring! It's just 7 short miles to the Rio Grand bridge and how beautiful that was. We had the best sleep in a long time...the beds are king size and the sheets are wonderful. Everything you could possibly imagine from a blow dryer to a wok is in this house! It was nice to end each day sitting in the hot tub every night and gaze at the stars. We brought our dogs and they just loved the back yard and the cool breeze, since we are from phoenix and went in the dead of our hot summer. We highly recommend this place and will be back again next year! Thank you Kip and Larky for an incredibly relaxing stay!

This place is magnificent and is an ideal retreat from any source of stress. The quiet solitude combined with stellar views of the mountains and calm ambiance of the immediate surroundings are heavenly. We have stayed here several times and each time keeps getting more and more wonderful. The owners have taken immaculate care of the place and have a delightful sense of decoration and charm. Throw in the secluded hot tub in the back, the outdoor grill, and the spacious kitchen and dining area and all the luxuries of any boutique hotel come home. Access to Taos downtown is easy and fast, but the place if removed from the hubbub of that area and on just the right side of town to enable quick jaunts up to the mountains or down to the Rio Grande Gorge. It really is ideal! I would highly recommend this place for any season.

Owner response: We love having return guests, especially ones who appreciate our house as much as we do. We hope you will continue to return year after year for stress free getaways!

I love coming to Taos, and I can't imagine staying anywhere but here. This house is whimsical and fun, just like the town. The back garden is private and lovely, with views of the mountains that will make it hard to stay inside. Luckily, lots of large windows keep you from feeling even a little scenery deprived. The beds are huge and comfortable, and just in case you need to relax further, you can enjoy the hot tub out back. I'll definitely be back!

About the owner: We live in Phoenix, AZ. When we can escape from work, we love to come up to Taos, especially in the summer.

                          Why the Owner Chose Taos:
We first came to Taos when we were undergraduates studying Geology at the University of North Carolina. During our summer of field camp, we fell in love with Taos. It took a long time to get back, but we are finally able to come up for vacations. We love the mountains for the views, hiking and skiing and both the art and intellectual scene in Taos. There is always something to do or learn and we look forward to the day when we can spend lots more time there!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Relaxing! Hiking, rafting, tubing, getting to know others in Taos, eating outside, going out to hear music or to learn something new at one of the many lectures offered in town and watching art being created all around us.
