This being our first time to La Jolla booked a week stay at what turn out to be a faboulous rental home. Everything was perfect. It was like staying in a top floor suite in the Ritz Carlton! This home has everything! Every morning we walked a block to Starbucks, the grocery store a block away, unbelievable choice of restaurants withing 2 to 5 block walking distance and of course the beach in which we walked to every morning with our cup of coffee for our morning walk. The owners (Lisa & Mike) were absolutely delightful. We rate this a 5 star!!

We have stayed in a number of rental properties over the last 4-5 years and this is the nicest one yet! The property is exactly as described and the owners (Michael & Lisa) go out of their way to make it as comfortable as possible. They have thought of every detail to make it a wonderful home away from home. The location is a few blocks from the beautiful beaches of La Jolla and an easy stroll to shopping, coffee, dining, etc. They even had beach toys for our two year old! Perfect place for families or couples.

Four of us spent a lovely week here in October 2010. The apartment was well appointed, comfortable and very well-equipped. The advertised pictures were accurate as was the description of the property. We felt that this was a homely property and would easily return if the opportunity ever arose. The proprietors were extremely helpful and most friendly and made the stay very pleasant. They even provided us with the day's newspapers after they had read them, which was before breakfast!. We were welcomed with a plate of home-made cakes. They also offered for us to use their computer to print off our boarding passes for the flight home. Las Jolla itself has a pleasant, relaxed air about it. It is in a pretty cove setting and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby as well as a large supermarket within 100 yards. It is also near enough to the main sights of San Diego. Our sincere thanks to Lisa and Michael.

Recommended! This place meets the description in every aspect. Like earlier visitors we were pleasantly surprised by how clean and well maintained this place is. Also our communication with the Maher family was very pleasant, both before and during our stay. The location of the guest house is good. A couple of blocks from the Windansea beach. It's walking distance, but with beach gear you'd prefer to take the car. Also downtown La Jolla (The Cove area) is a short drive away. La Jolla Shores is a bit further, 15-20 min. drive depending on traffic. Windansea is a nice beach to hang out and watch the surfers. The Shores is more a family type beach with less surf. Be sure to go snorkeling on the south end and look for the Leopard sharks (they're harmless). Also watch out for stingrays, the don't like to be stepped upon. Snorkeling at The Cove is fantastic, plenty of fish and it's great to swim with the Sea Lions. There are a couple of nice restaurants and a Starbucks one block away. Be sure to check out Bernini's Bistro. The house also has a nice kitchen and an outside grill if you prefer to stay home for dinner. We're looking forward to coming back to La Jolla and staying in this house again.

We (four adults) stayed in the Village Guest House at the end of February, 2010 and loved every minute! Lisa and Michael were friendly and helpful, the accommodations were exactly as described, and La Jolla has become our dream for our retirement years. The Mahers were easy to contact and deal with regarding our stay, and take obvious pride in their rental property which is right behind their own home. When we arrived, there was a bottle of wine, fresh fruit and flowers to welcome us. The living room seating and beds were very comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed, the Wifi was complimentary and there was a collection of movies for entertainment. They also allow guests to use their laundry facilities which was an added bonus. The free parking was appreciated and you'll find you don't need your car when you stay at the Village Guest House - just about everything is within walking distance. La Jolla is a beautiful area with a wonderful downtown, pretty beaches and parks and wonderful restaurants. We enjoyed Piatti (in La Jolla Shores) and Whisknladle - and if you drive into downtown San Diego, don't miss De Medici, Kemo Sabe and Rama. We highly recommend this vacation rental and wouldn't have changed a thing about it. One couldn't ask for a better place to call home in La Jolla!

Four of us stayed in this homey vacation rental in February. Everything was just as described or even better. The property is on a pretty side street within easy walking distance of the beach, shopping, restaurants and groceries. The Mahers went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, even setting us up with a wonderful realtor they knew, since we are interested in purchasing property in the area. Communication and the rental process were both quick and trouble-free. The unit was immaculate and comfortable with a full kitchen and outside patio grill, nice-sized bedrooms and a large living room with TV, DVD/VCR player and plenty of movies for entertainment. Wireless internet was complimentary and worked perfectly. A nice bottle of wine, fresh fruit and flowers were there to welcome us when we arrived, and Lisa and Michael were friendly and warm every time we crossed paths (they live on-site). The washing machine and dryer downstairs was an added bonus. La Jolla is a little slice of heaven, with beautiful views of the ocean, pretty parks and a nice downtown area. Our favorite restaurant was an Italian place in La Jolla Shores called Piatti, but we also loved Whisknladle. If you want to drive into downtown San Diego, we highly recommend De Medici, Rama and Kemo Sabe. I know we will be back to stay in the Village Guest House and are sure you will be just as happy with your visit as we were!

We have stayed with Lisa and Michael a number of times and their welcome feels like coming home. The guest house is the best appointed of any we've visited and we have rented from VRBO around the world. The beds are great and the kitchen fully equipped. Add beautiful La Jolla and you have the perfect vacation.

The owners are wonderful people living on the property and will accomodate most requests and are very gracious people. The view of the ocean is a little distant but we saw wonderful sunsets. We were within walking distance to nice restaurants and shops. We enjoyed the fireplace in the cool evenings. We will certainly try to return again.

We recently stayed here and what a delightful surprise, enjoyed every minute and look forward to frequent returns. The place is airy and bright, simple and charming and everything you could want is provided. There was Peet's coffee sitting on the counter as well as a lovely bowl of mandarins which we noticed when we first entered. The beds were so comfy with the down comforters (Feb. stay) and the bathrooms with plush towels and fragrant soaps . Want to eat in, no problem, fully furnished kitchen and a grill on the deck. We loved the deck especially in the mornings with the newspaper and coffee. (They provide 3 papers, 1 is NY Times) Nice little fireplace in the living room was great at night. It is within walking distance of beach, great little shops, and a coffee house, Pannikin that we frequented. On Sunday we enjoyed an open air market near Pannikins with yummy foods and unique gifts for self or others. Truly everything was provided that we could want and we really felt as if we were guests in a friends home. We had the extra pleasure of purchasing some of Lisa's fun pottery, much of it whimsical, all of it unique, as well as the delight of visiting with Lisa. We rented a number of VRBOs in various cities but this really topped it in the sense of feeling like guests. Couldn't have asked for more. Simply lovely. Great for a family of 4 or two couples.

Just wanted to say that I would return to Lisa and Michael's unit anytime! I loved the "palm tree" sunsets from the living room, the nice deck to sit out and enjoy my morning coffee, the super-comfortable beds, the morning papers delivered to our door, and all the help that Lisa and Michael were to us. The apartment was well appointed, lots of room , and sunny/bright. I hope to return this fall to enjoy the lovely village of La Jolla , just down Fay Avenue. Thanks again Lisa, Michael, and John for you hospitality.

Lisa and Michael have established a cottage that wants for nothing. We arrived very late due to flight delays but they were gracious and accommodating then and throughout our stay. The house is beautifully maintained with every thing anyone could ever need plus some things you might not know you might need. As hosts, they are available if needed for advice and restaurant tips etc. but are never the slightest bit imposing - just like having perfect neighbors! The location is excellent for walking into La Jolla and to the beaches and it is a place to which we will definitely return someday. A truly wonderful and relaxing house.

This La Jolla rental property was ideal for our family of three. Every item we required was at out finger tips, every need was met, even those for our infant son. Every detail was carefully attended to! The care that was taken by Lisa and Michael in preparing for our stay was so greatly appreciated. All of the comforts we could have asked for were provided and they were readily available to answer any questions, recommend local attractions and just share a friendly chat. We felt at home at this rental property. We felt that Michael and Lisa genuinely enjoyed having us as their guests and went beyond our expectations to make us feel welcome. We looked forward to bumping into them throughout the day and we look forward to returning for another vacation at this lovely location!

The Location in the quaint LaJolla is perfect. Easy and close to walk to everything : the beach, restaurants, shops, cute town, farmers market, etc... as well as near the highway to the rest of California/ LA/ San Diego. The Home is Clean (extremely) and well maintained. I truly recommend this vacation home to any friends and family adventuring to the East Coast. We loved this place!!! Having lived in San Diego for 3 years before moving out East, we had great hopes going back to our city of dreams for our first family vacation since. It was the perfect get-away! Our friends Christiane and Jon (see review) had recommended the guest house, and we are glad they did. Lisa and Michael are among the loveliest and accommodating hosts we have ever had. The place itself is equipped with everything you need, we did not even have to bring along a pack'n'play for our 2 year old daughter. The house was very clean and well-maintained, fresh-cut flowers in every (!) room. Beautiful beaches, the cove and good places to eat are close. We hope to be back soon.

As someone who used to live in La Jolla, I can say with confidence that this wonderful bungalow is perfect! It is in a great location - in 10 minutes or less on foot you can enjoy shops, restaurants, beaches, and entertainment. It is both clean and stocked with everything you need - and if it isn't there, the owners will do their best to accommodate you. Speaking of the owners, they are delightful. We enjoyed talking with them, and they were both friendly and helpful without being intrusive. This will be our destination of choice on our next visit to the San Diego area, and we highly recommend it. My only hesitation in writing this review is that it's booked when we want to stay next time.

Renting via the Internet can be tricky, but not at this lovely home in La Jolla. Michael and Lisa are the perfect hosts - gracious, caring, available close-by if needed, and working hard behind the scenes to keep everything in perfect order. The description of their property is very accurate. Our only surpise was that it was nicer than the pictures! Everything is super clean, in good working order, and tastefully appointed. We were in town for a wedding and all our visiting relatives wished that's where they were staying. Can't beat the location. You really can easily walk to town and to the beach. Parking is easy and a car is helpful to get you into San Diego and to see the sights. I'll definitely return! It's a jewel.

This cheerful, delightfully furnished and perfectly appointed, contemporary vacation home is located in the heart of La Jolla, one of California's most celebrated beach resorts. We went ocean kayaking and surfing, visited the Wild Animal Park, and went to Balboa Park, Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. Add to all of this, some of the best restaurants and shopping anywhere. We recommend the Maher's relaxing vacation get-away without qualifications.

This was our second visit to the Mahers guest house. We really love it there. They are such exceptionally nice people. Their warmth and friendliness can be felt in the guest house. They are completely responsive to any questions or concerns you have. It's nice to kind of have our own place. And the location is absolutely perfect. We have family about 15 minutes away, all of La Jolla is accessible - shops and beaches, yet we're in the middle of a nice residential neighborhood. There was always parking (free!) available on the street The deck is a remarkable asset for the property. It's quite attractive, private, and very comfortable. We were able to comfortably entertain family on a couple occasions. And, of course, the weather's always beautiful so it's always nice to be on the deck. During our previous stay a couple years back, we were there on the 4th of July and you could see two separate fireworks displays from the deck. The only suggestion for improvement we'd have is for the guest house to have improved air conditioning. You don't always need it in La Jolla, but what they have there isn't very effective. And the plumbing is a bit quirky. But those concerns are at the margin. We wouldn't have returned there if we didn't really, really like the place. Our kids (now both teenagers) love it, too.

From the moment we arrived we felt immediately at home. Absolutely anything and everything we could possibly need was already there. We felt we were almost personal guests staying at your home. For a vacation rental, it's as good as any property we’ve stayed in over the last 20 years. We’re sorry we only had a week to spend in La Jolla and San Diego – such a beautiful city with so much to see and do. Our time here felt like a week of Sundays. Nothing was too much trouble during our stay – we were impressed with the special fireworks display from the deck on July 4th! Thanks again for sharing your guest house with us.

From the moment we arrived and were warmly welcomed by Mike, the property and facilities proved to be exactly what we wanted and exactly as described on the Web site. As a family with two teenage boys, we have stayed in self catering premises throughout Europe for many years as this gives us so much more flexibility and freedom than hotels. The accomodation was spotless and everything you would ever need at home was available in the house. A key reason for choosing this house was the twin beds for the boys as so many self catering properties only offer double beds in all the rooms. The local beach at Windandsea had much more character and attraction than the bigger beaches further along the coast and we had several lovely visits there with the boys. A fond memory for us would be enjoying some wine, cheese and biscuits with Mike and Lisa on the balcony and watching the 4th July fireworks at the local country club - a magical evening! Overall, a great property run by a lovely couple with everything you could need from a self catering property - thank you Mike and Lisa for sharing your home with us.

I usually don’t provide reviews of vacation homes, but this vacation home is an exception. It’s really our home away from home. The real stand out features of the home are its owners, Lisa and Michael. The little touches they provide make this vacation house a home. We have rented this home for three years now and each time it’s just as good as the first time we rented. The location is an easy walk to all of La Jolla Village. The upper deck overlooks the village homes and the view from inside the home provides a glimpse of the ocean. The home is comfortable for a week or several months stay. We have looked at other locations in this price range in La Jolla and found that non other unit comes close. carol and rich

Once again our stay here was perfect – we only wish we could stay longer! With my girls visiting daily, it truly seems like home – especially our Thanksgiving Day celebration! Thank you and see you next November.

We came for a friends wedding and found so much more in your wonderful retreat here. Everything was perfect – especially the beautiful weather you ordered for us! Thank you for all the little touches and for making us feel so welcome.
