Now, you have the unique opportunity to stay in one of Westports infamous "tall houses." The "Westport Landship" exhibits one-of-a-kind breathtaking views from every room of the beautiful Mendocino coastline. Sip wine by the old-fashioned wood fireplace in the expansive great room and watch the waves crash on the rocks below through the coastline window wall. Tickle the keys of the vintage piano that came around the cape in the early 1900's. Cooks will love the landship's galley with its mahogany cabinets, stainless steel countertops, top-of-the-line appliances, and a full eating bar. Beachcomers, Abalone divers and Fisherman alike will love the outside shower and easy access for cleanup after the beach through the exterior accessed lower level bathroom.

Now wind yourself up the spectacular circular staircase to the sleeping deck of the glorious landship. Kids love to bunk up together in the spacious dormer room and game area. As for the two front "private cabins"!! (see attached pictures as the view is absolutely breathtaking) The Captain's Cabin includes its own wood burning fireplace, while the Cape Mendocino Cabin rounds out a 180 degree view of the Lost Coast and beyond. Both front cabins feature awning style windows to open up and let the songs of the sea play through the restful sleep-filled nights. The spacious bathroom with its tiled-in shower featuring another breathtaking view of the breakers is capped off with its old-fashioned "claw foot" tub that of course features its own unobstructed view of the waters below. Now, peek through thy porthole and venture on up to your own third story "Lighthouse" and "Widow's Walk."

Watch the whales from the lookout deck and take in the full 360 degree panoramic view. Slipping back into the third story "hidden" attic room completes this "Victorian Landship" on the ocean from the inside.

The outside features the "nautical" accents and the grand "Victorian" of the olden days when Westport was in its glory days of the 1800's. Play croquet, read a book, or just watch the waves from the grass-covered ocean bluff yard and redwood deck. Cook your day's catch on the bricked B-B-Q grill off the rear deck. A nice walk down your own private pathway to the bluff edge brings in the sea and all its glory.

We have recently completed the side yard dog run ! Upon application approval the "Landship" now welcomes your dog alike in the dog run area, the garage, and on the first floor level, as well as the surrounding grounds.

Once you've experienced your own private cruise on the "Westport Landship", your family will never want to sail elsewhere. This vacation will indeed be included in your "Best of Times."

    • I searched and searched for a location for a family reunion that was on the ocean, allowed children and was pet friendly. The Landship was thee place. Fantastically located on the cliff edge with beautiful views of crashing waves and to die for sunsets. My sister visting from Honolulu was most impressed, even with her very high ocean view standards! The decor and furnishings were first rate. We encountered two challenges, the first was the location of the second bathroom, downstairs and away from the bedroom area. The second was parking, due to the cliffside location off street parking was tight. Solution, drive small cars, leave the lemo or town car at home! All in all, beautiful memories were created at the Landship. PS: Sunday brunch at the Westport Hotel was AWESOME, best crab cakes ever!!!

    • The Landship Voyage (Cont.) - By Randy Epilog For those of us fortunate enough to make way upon the proud decks of the pristine-white sea- weathered vessel, we can only sit humbly--within it’s secure, dry hold--in wonder and awe at the various and sundry details which make each marvelous voyage seemingly all too swift and the trip’s destination a bitter-sweet final note of an all- to-short, strange and yet beautiful love song.

    • A “Landship” Voyage - Prolog Being a man of logical mind and unemotional words, very few places and moments in my more than forty years of a not-so-boring life have inspired me to put forth, with ink, onto paper, the thoughts and intimate ponderings I am about to relate. One such rare and precious moment is this…a special moment on Thursday, March 9, 2006. Looking out over the grey blue ocean, a relaxed occupant of the proud new vessel glances towards a dark, ominous, looming cloud. As he stares it lets forth the cold north-east-pacific rain stored within. Down, the seemingly endless deluge pours, onto the churning sea beneath. Seemingly determined to follow a pre-set course, it moves oblivious to the like-colored eyes that look upon it —that unforgiving relentless power of the sea—with awe, wonderment, and humble respect. Chapter One – Aboard Landship Call me Shepherd. Here aboard the Westport’s pride “Landship” it is warm, safe and calm. As the baby sleeps in his mother’s arms, his young beautiful teen-age sister is cozy, with her knees curled up, reading in her bunk. I watch the dark squall as it slowly approaches us. There is no place to steer to avoid this latest bout with Mother Nature’s wrath. The wind is beginning to pick up and signs of the approaching storm are evident everywhere. Soon the noise of the wind across the bow is deafening. As the sheer wall of rain begins to pelt the foredeck I look out the starboard window at the horizontal blast of hailstones. This only accentuates the already profound sensation of brisk forward motion which I have. And while it is true that we are holding our course, it is profoundly obvious to me that it is in direct opposition to the track of storm. Steadfast and knowing that there is no turning back, I fear nothing as we forge ahead in the sturdy capable Landship. Built tall and proud upon the lofty dreams of one dedicated ship’s captain’s first mate, and with sheets and masts bound together by the souls of those countless craftsman who toiled to make this incredible dream a reality. Chapter Two – Sea Quests Why is it that for ages man has looked towards the sea longing for the answers to the many questions he holds within? Knowingly, he asks these questions, looking for answers that only he can provide to himself—and that it is only possible to do so when he is in a quiet, warm, comfortable, and meditative state. So it was that the Landship was built. A perfect vessel crafted in response to this enduring need to quench these burning questions within each and every one of us who is willing to embark upon a voyage together with the land, the wind, and the sea—to a destination within our souls.

    • This brand new house is absolutely beautiful. It is filled with all the modern amenities needed for a very relaxing vacation getaway. The views from inside the house are gorgeous and the front lawn and deck are very inviting. The "poppy seed" beach below is warm and secluded and filled with all kinds of things to explore. We can't wait to return and make some more great memories!

    • My husband and I experienced this beautiful house in Westport, the view is spectacular not to mention the gorgeous sunset!!! It is a wonderful place to get away with your loved ones. The town of Westport is quaint, you can take endless walks on the beach, and Fort Bragg is less than fifteen minutes away. This is a special place to get away and just relax. We hope to get back to the Westport Landship soon.
