Now, you have the unique opportunity to stay in one of Westports infamous "tall houses." The "Westport Landship" exhibits one-of-a-kind breathtaking views from every room of the beautiful Mendocino coastline. Sip wine by the old-fashioned wood fireplace in the expansive great room and watch the waves crash on the rocks below through the coastline window wall. Tickle the keys of the vintage piano that came around the cape in the early 1900's. Cooks will love the landship's galley with its mahogany cabinets, stainless steel countertops, top-of-the-line appliances, and a full eating bar. Beachcomers, Abalone divers and Fisherman alike will love the outside shower and easy access for cleanup after the beach through the exterior accessed lower level bathroom.
Now wind yourself up the spectacular circular staircase to the sleeping deck of the glorious landship. Kids love to bunk up together in the spacious dormer room and game area. As for the two front "private cabins"!! (see attached pictures as the view is absolutely breathtaking) The Captain's Cabin includes its own wood burning fireplace, while the Cape Mendocino Cabin rounds out a 180 degree view of the Lost Coast and beyond. Both front cabins feature awning style windows to open up and let the songs of the sea play through the restful sleep-filled nights. The spacious bathroom with its tiled-in shower featuring another breathtaking view of the breakers is capped off with its old-fashioned "claw foot" tub that of course features its own unobstructed view of the waters below. Now, peek through thy porthole and venture on up to your own third story "Lighthouse" and "Widow's Walk."
Watch the whales from the lookout deck and take in the full 360 degree panoramic view. Slipping back into the third story "hidden" attic room completes this "Victorian Landship" on the ocean from the inside.
The outside features the "nautical" accents and the grand "Victorian" of the olden days when Westport was in its glory days of the 1800's. Play croquet, read a book, or just watch the waves from the grass-covered ocean bluff yard and redwood deck. Cook your day's catch on the bricked B-B-Q grill off the rear deck. A nice walk down your own private pathway to the bluff edge brings in the sea and all its glory.
We have recently completed the side yard dog run ! Our owner's group now can approve your pet on a "case-by-case" basis, upon application approval the "Landship" now welcomes your dog alike in the dog run area, the garage, and on the first floor level, as well as the surrounding grounds.
Once you've experienced your own private cruise on the "Westport Landship", your family will never want to sail elsewhere. This vacation will indeed be included in your "Best of Times."

"Westport Landship"
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Westport
Ocean Front Property, a wonderful step back in time !
Owner's Map of Westport
Westport "Landship", an unforgettable experience ! Thomas Bangs and family decided to create a "step back in time" for this unique home on the Mendocino coast. Thomas designs and builds homes throughout the northern California area from Lake Tahoe to the Mendocino coast. Concentrating on the Napa Valley region, the trip up to Westport became a passion for the whole family. We immediately fell in love with the uniqueness of the small town of Westport. We felt we stepped back to a time where things were simpler and easier in life. The family decided to design and have built, TPB Signature Homes came up from the Napa region for the constuction in 2005, a nautical old tyme feeling home of the 1800's from the design, through construction and on into the antique furnishings. We welcome all to our home, and hope when you do come aboard the "Landship", you do feel like a refreshing step back into time and enjoy a break from our sometimes too fast lane lives. Welcome Aboard Mates !!

Westport, CA is just this side of Heaven. The Landship is the only way to stay there. No tv . . . no internet to speak of . . . no real radio . . . just a beautiful location and a splendid home.

Our family rented The Westport Landship to celebrate a 40th birthday in January. We were a little nervous about weather conditions, etc... being January and all... but it was perfect. Some of the best tide pooling we've done... just a short drive to some amazing hiking... the views from the Landship are breathtaking. The cabin on top of the house does require you to walk outside to get to... and the second shower is on the other side of the garage... but barring these two... so many other amenities are there, just enjoy! Thank you Thomas!
Owner response:Ahoy Matey ........ Jim, the crew at the Westport "Landship" thanks you..... glad to hear you had a great time aboard !

Good morning Thomas, We really enjoyed our time at the 'Landship'. The house was very comfortable and well set up for a family holiday, and of course, the location and view were stunning. The kitchen was well-stocked with dishes and cookware and serving pieces for our group - especially important because of the Thanksgiving holiday. I appreciated the detailed instructions for how to use the appliances and thermostats. The dorm room was perfect for a group of cousins to take over and enjoy. We had a great time in this beautiful home! Thanks too, for your very organized approach to renting the 'Landship'! Cheers, Julianne Stafford ps, Thanks for the return stay coupon, too.

We had a family birthday and had such a spectacular time at the Landship. The views from the house are incredible and all the facilities there made it very easy to feel at home. One thing I hadn't considered is that it does get windy on the coast, so the BBQ we had hoped for couldn't happen as the outside grill wouldn't catch alight. Thomas was very helpful in answering all my annoying questions and the photos give you just a taste of what an incredible place it is. Only bad thing was that the few days weren't long enough!

We spent a week at the Landship and it was wonderful. The house feels like a true "home" with all of the amenities you need. It is clean and very well-maintained. Everything from the super comfortable beds, nice linens, games, the piano, and extras like the bikes and boogie boards, all made it so easy to relax and have a nice vacation. It is a gorgeous home and we thought is was even better than the pictures. We stayed at the Landship with two small children and it was easy. I had read reviews that the loft is open but there is a heavy door that covers it like a regular door. It sleeps so many children, you could put like 5 in there! The 3rd bedroom isn't a room for small kids because you have to go out on the top deck to get there and in the wind it is hard to open and shut the door, so just make sure that if you bring children they can all fit in the wonderful loft or other rooms. My girls liked going into the 3rd bedroom to play games during the day. We were worried about the cliff with the kids, but there is a lot of vegetation so no chance that anyone could fall off. The steps down to the beach are not easy so taking the kids or dog there was impossible but there is a great beach just down the street. We loaded up our bags every morning and walked down the street to the nice steps the town of Westport has built. Very easy even with a dog, a 2 year old and a grandma in tow. The town of Westport is adorable. The restaurant was surprisingly good (we're from Napa Valley and felt it was up to par with restaurants we frequent). Lastly, Thomas was very helpful in booking everything and returned our security the deposit the day after we checked out. We can't wait to go back to the Landship next year (or even sooner!).
Owner response:We are very pleased that your family and friends loved your stay aboard the Westport "Landship". We do love to share with our guests that "step back into time" when life has a more relaxing easier simpler theme. We hope you can remember your stay as one of the Best of Times.

We spent Thanksgiving at the Landship with another family. The house was beautiful and well-decorated. I love that there was no TV on the first floor, but lots of games and puzzles. However, I would caution that the house description is slightly misleading. First, the stairway to the beach is so steep that it must be climbed down ladder style. Definitely not something for little kids. Also not kid friendly-the fourth bedroom that is accessed through the lighthouse tower requires walking outside for about 10 feet - then the door to the bedroom is less than five feet high.. We had rain and high winds, and the kids that we planned to put in that room could not manage the door in the wind. An internal staircase would have been a wonderful thing. The other dorm style bedroom has no door, rather it opens to the second floor landing. Finally, the second shower is across the garage. It is nice to be able to access it from outside, but it is a chilly proposition to go out there for a morning shower. That said, we would rent the house again!

I searched and searched for a location for a family reunion that was on the ocean, allowed children and was pet friendly. The Landship was thee place. Fantastically located on the cliff edge with beautiful views of crashing waves and to die for sunsets. My sister visting from Honolulu was most impressed, even with her very high ocean view standards! The decor and furnishings were first rate. We encountered two challenges, the first was the location of the second bathroom, downstairs and away from the bedroom area. The second was parking, due to the cliffside location off street parking was tight. Solution, drive small cars, leave the lemo or town car at home! All in all, beautiful memories were created at the Landship. PS: Sunday brunch at the Westport Hotel was AWESOME, best crab cakes ever!!!

This home came about by accident, or so I thought. I had reservations at another destination, but just didn't feel like it was perfect so I continued to look for a beach house rental. The photo to this home is what did it for me. Then you arrive there and are taken back at the beauty of, not only the home, but the surroundings. Simply amazing! Our family enjoyed an entire week here and found it to be a most rewarding experience. As a family we took part in putting together puzzles, playing games, having a glass of wine and just talking while enjoying the spectacular views, and of course, spent much of our time on the beach. It's hard to put into words just what this place is like, but like our family, once we saw the pictures, our motto was "yes please!"

The Landship Voyage (Cont.) - By RandyEpilogFor those of us fortunate enough to make way upon the proud decks of the pristine-white sea-weathered vessel, we can only sit humbly--within it’s secure, dry hold--in wonder and awe at the various and sundry details which make each marvelous voyage seemingly all too swift and the trip’s destination a bitter-sweet final note of an all-to-short, strange and yet beautiful love song.
