Welcome to Stella Maris, a classic Bahamian Cottage, a type of structure rapidly disappearing in the Family Islands. The cottage sits in a large walled-lot landscaped with coconut palms, oleander, sea lettuce and other bright tropical plants. Close to all amenities, yet just 80 paces from a pink sand beach 2 -1/4 miles long.

Completely renovated with all modern conveniences, Stella Maris is comfortable and inviting. Stella Maris easily sleeps 6 persons in 2 bedrooms and a futon in the living room. For small families with young children a collapsible "Pack and Play" is available for use. The yard is walled, so children can play safely in the yard.

The cottage includes a queen and double bedroom with a queen futon in the living room. Linens, towels, etc.. are provided. The cottage is fitted with a central Air-Conditioning system, you can stay in complete comfort year round. The kitchen is fully-equipped with refrigerator, microwave, gas stove with oven, coffee maker, blender and a full suite of pots, pans, dishes and flatware. Stella Maris has one bathroom. Rental also includes: Cable TV, DVD, CD and wireless internet.

Spanish Wells is a charming community of hard working fishermen; tourism is still new to the island and thus you won't be over-run with people - especially on the beaches where one rarely encounters another soul. The locals are friendly, approachable and welcoming. The waters around St.George's Cay are completely amenable to all water sports -from simply soaking up the sun to snorkeling (stunning reefs abound) and jet skiing.

3 restaurants on the island and a large American-style supermarket (with pharmacy) provide various options whether one wants to eat out or stay at home. The best and most economical means of transport in Spanish Wells is the ubiquitous Golf Cart, but a bicycle is equally useful. The resort of Harbor Island is close by if you are looking for a nice day trip from Spanish Wells as are several other sightseeing and historic attractions on Eleuthera proper.

Spanish Wells is very safe, secure and kid-friendly. A well-equipped medical clinic is close by Stella Maris and the Royal Bank (with ATM) is located across the street - and the Post Office is right next door. Easily accessible from Nassau by Bahamas Fast Ferry which takes you right to Spanish Wells. You can also fly in to North Eleuthera airport which is a short water taxi and cab ride away.

  • Want to go back . . . NOW! Stella Maris and Spanish Wells were the perfect spot for a much needed and gorgeous respite. The cottage was cozy and comfy with everything we needed to cook, play and rest. We played, lounged, and read on the most beautiful white velvet sand beaches we've ever seen. The water was crystal clear--we could still see our toes perfectly several hundred yards out from the shoreline. The water is calm and warm -- you just cannot beat it!! The people of Spanish Wells were incredibly friendly, inviting and helpful. The island is quiet and not at all touristy. We miss the whole experience so much, we have vowed to return next year if the hosts will let us!! It is the BEST! I have never been much of a beach person, but this place won me over.

  • Delicious Bliss! Simple to get here from Fort Lauderdale...two invitations to dinner and a party our first day of arrival! The locals are magnificently warm and inviting and fun! Clean and safe... When invited to a locals home for dinner I brought my Conch Chowder and she made my favorite stew fish! The next day we bought fresh eggs from the nursery. Our caretakers here brought us fresh Conch and Huge Crab Claws...The best beaches in the world, with a pink glow...crystal blue water...This cottage is flawless...about 100 years old and so comfortable, we watched movies, and drove around in our golf cart to watch the moon rise on the water. Walk to everything in town, large yard ...an incredible experience... Thank you for the honor of staying at Stella Maris Cottage....
