It is difficult to create more detailed and/or glowing review than others have written. Simply to say, it was perfect by any objective standard. Spotless, comfortable, thoughtfully designed, accommodating in every way ... when you think of it, it will be there and available. All who wish a getaway to the wine areas of Napa/Sonoma, the Russian River, or just some quiet time together deserve to be treated to some time at one of the Sage Hen's units. We stayed at the smaller "French Kitchen" - Just Do It! You will enjoy.

We went to a wedding in Petaluma, it was only about 7 miles away. Couldn't have asked for a more comfortable place. It was a great experience for my family to stay on the property. We actually stayed in both units, the studio first while waiting for the main house to be vacated and cleaned from another guest. Both units were clean and had everything you needed!

Ron is easy-going and helpful, and the place is just what we needed. Two couples enjoying wine tasting and home cooking. The kitchen had everything we needed. I wish they had a gas grill, because I'm not an expert in using charcoals. Other than that, it was perfect.
Owner response:Glad you enjoyed your stay. We got that gas grill Steve.

We had a wedding to attend and so my husband, son and his friend stayed at the beautiful Sage Hen. The owner is located at the property and were very wonderful to all of us. The grounds are so gorgeous and the Lou Waters history is very fascinating. We would certainly come back again. It would be a great place to hold a family reunion, or a beautiful wedding. The location of it is quiet but extremely convenient. It's a real find and I can't wait to go and stay there again! Nancy Berry

The Sage Hen was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked. We had everything that we needed for our stay in the house. It was very comfortable for 2 couples and the location was great. The history of the house was very interesting, and of course the great wineries. Hope to return to Cotati and the Sage Hen soon.

My husband and I needed a place to stay en route to Davis in May. The property came highly recommended. The owners arrived shortly after we did and were hospitable in keeping us entertained while the house was being cleaned for our stay. Well worth the wait. After visiting a nearby grocery store we enjoyed a relaxed evening. Quiet like we do not experience in our suburban neighborhood. The next morning, arising early, I strolled the grounds. I came to the conclusion that the Sage Hen would be a great place to nurse a broken heart or write a book or just get away from it all. We took a relaxed car ride thru wine country. Beautiful. I would love to go back and would highly recommend this vacation getaway as a fine place to stay. Thanks, Ron and Brook!

My husband and I traveled with another couple to the Sonoma area for 5 days. We were looking for a home base where we could make our own breakfast and dinners, had separate bedrooms for each couple, 2 bathrooms, clean and comfortable. I became the hero of the group when I found the Sage Hen. The house was exactly what we wanted! The second bathroom not having a shower wasn't a problem for getting ready. Everything was impeccably clean. We thoroughly enjoyed using the well-equipped kitchen - there were even a few food staples left that we used (and we left some for others to use, as well). Both bedrooms were comfortable. The layout had great flow, the house was private and safe. Occasionally we saw other friendly guests on the property that gave us a wave. Although it was a bit of a drive to get to the places we were visiting it still felt central to so many areas. There were two entrances to the house, which was handy for bringing in groceries. We want to thank Ron for a wonderful stay and fabulous, quick & friendly communication in addressing any questions we had prior to our visit. We hope to visit again!

The town of Cotati is quaint and I recommend making it over there. The Sage Hen was immaculate and the kitchen is fully furnished. The house has a nice open feel to it and our stay was so much better than previous hotel experiences. The grounds are well maintained, the barbeque picnic area came in handy and was clean. The front of the house has a nice covered porch and the front of the house faces away from other properties on the lot so you have privacy. The owners are nice, and available if you need them but keep to themselves. Everything was in excellent condition and we will deffinitely stay there again when in the area. The pictures are a very good representation of the house and property. The location is central to several different areas, we visited Napa one day, Healdsburg and Dry Creek Valley another day, and Geyerserville and north of Healdsburg the next. So location couldn't have been better.

We have stayed here and at the cottage several times. They are both extremely well appointed with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The grounds are sweet with flowers and many bird feeders. Ron is a laid back, thoughtful host, never intrusive and always helpful. Centrally located for wine tasting, the coast and San Francisco day trips. We look forward to returning in the spring!

A great place to stay. Clean, comfortable, everything you will need provided and a warm welcome from the owner, Ron. Full of history, close to the Highway 101 for getting places but far enough away to be quiet. Base yourselves there for wine tours, visiting San Fran., seeing coastal redwoods and walking in Muir Woods.

My son and grandaughter live in Rohnert Park. When visiting once I stayed at Sage Hen. I was a little apprehensive about staying alone so I visited the property and met the Owner. It was a very safe and secure setting and the owners were on-site but obscure. It felt good to know they were nearby. The location was perfect and the accomodations were above expectation. Beautiful kitchen and lovely grounds for children to playl Very peaceful and relaxing. I wanted to stay longer, return often and find a place just like this to retire. It is lovely. I cannot wait to return. This could be my home away but it is always rented! I guess everyone feels the same way.

This year my husband, brother and I rented the Sage Hen for our California wine country trip. Having stayed in and loved the smaller cottage last year, I knew we were returning to this property. Again, the Sage Hen exceeded our expectations. This was one of our best trips yet. As a cook, the kitchen is a dream to cook in. The outside barbeque was great to have. The house is spotlessly clean and so comfortable. The gardens are beautiful and it's a peaceful place to wander around. The owner Ron again was so helpful and friendly. We will be returning to this property again and again!

What a lovely, cool, comfortable house! We looked quite a bit on websites and the map before choosing this--thought it would be a good location for what we wanted: convenient to all of the wine valleys, San Francisco, the northern coast and redwoods, and it was. Hard to believe you're right off 101. What we didn't expect was to love this house and garden. Cool stone floors, good leather furniture, not luxury but true comfort, peace and quiet. The garden was a Zen-like oasis of pine and spruce and really good stonework. The hosts are excellent--friendly and helpful but left us alone. Nice little town that made you glad to be there instead of the busier areas! We enjoyed cooking out and drinking the wines we'd found during the day. We definitely recommend!

We stayed at the Sage Hen on a family holiday to California in June 2009. It was very relaxing with good facilities and lovely grounds, and Ron was helpful with everything we needed. The house is close enough to Highway 101 for easy access, but yet still far enough away to be quiet and relaxing.

When Ron said that the key would be in the house and it was open and waiting for us we couldn't believe it. Thoughts were something has to be wrong. There aren't any places left that you can leave the door unlocked. Well this certainly one of those places if there are others. We felt so secure. Beautiful house and surroundings. Very convenient to the Wine Country of Sonoma and Napa. In a word, only someone very peculiar would find this house less that adequate and I mean adequate in a big way. Ron also has a smaller apartment that would be perfect for a couple or small family. Five Stars Ron!!!!!

My partner and I booked the Sage Hen for the holidays. The place was immaculate and looks exactly like the pictures, so you know just what you're getting. We loved sitting by the fire and being able to cook meals at home instead of going out to eat every night. It was also in close proximity to the freeway, wineries and beach. I would recommend this property to anyone that wants a stress free stay in a beautiful location.

We were very pleased with the accommodation. After a long flight and drive, it was nice to arrive at a beautiful house in a lovely setting. It was extremely clean and well equipped. Ron was very helpful and on-hand if needed. It was great as a base for travelling further north or back into San Francisco. We particularly enjoyed a visit to Sterling Vineyards - the tour starts and finishes with a cable car ride above stunning countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend the property.

We more than enjoyed our stay at The Sage Hen. My wife and I, along with our son (22) and daughter (18) could not ask for a more strategic stop for all that we wanted to see. We visited several wineries in Sanoma and NAPA. Traveled to San Fansico for a day, to the coast another and up north to see the giant Redwoods. What made all these visits more enjoyable was the wonderful place we had to go home to each day. The house is very well maintained and we commented more than once on how clean all was kept. We enjoyed some great steaks on the brick grill in the back yard and were suprised to see wild turkey and quail in the yard. Another plus was the big screen TV. Got to see the Hockey and NBA playoffs while relaxing in the evening. The stay at The Sage Hen was a great experince and the host made sure of our comfort. I would recommend this to my closest friends. We look forward to visiting again soon.

What more could anyone want away from ones own home. The Sage Hen was by far the cleanest home that we stayed at on our 3 week trip from Southern to Northern California. The bedding great, kitchen appointment great, laundry great. And to anyone reading, I'm a tough critic.

The Sage Hen was the perfect setting for a relaxing Christmas week. Thanks, Ron, for teaming up with Lu Watters to provide this tranquil retreat in the lovely rock gardens Lu built. The view, the grounds, the decor and your hospitality combined with Lu's history and positive legacy made for a wonderful backdrop for our family memory.

Sage Hen is a tranquil retreat nestled among trees and overlooks lovely secluded rock gardens. Our family truly enjoyed the well maintained setting and the tastefully decorated rooms. The kitchen is well equipped with ample counter space making it easy to accommodate group cooking projects. The cozy fireplace, the comfortable furniture and a great TV made the living room a natural gathering place for visits and movies. Sage Hen has a secluded feel to it yet is very conveniently located. The added bonus is the history and music of the original owner, Lu Watters, a local Bay Area jazz pioneer.

My husband and I and his parents stayed through the Thanksgiving holiday. We all had a wonderful visit. Thank you for sharing this wonderful home. We enjoyed learning more about Lu Watters' life and music and enjoyed the CD's. Every morning we enjoyed watching the little yellow finches and the red birds come down to feed on the rosemary bauds. So cute! Lots of little frogs, hummingbirds, too. The home is so tastefully decorated and was very comfortable. All the conveniences of home were provided. Thank you again. This TV/CD/DVD system was much easier than the cottage. Ha!

The attention to detail found in this home is remarkable. Spacious and beautifully furnished our family enjoyed every moment. The interior layout is very comfortable, with sleeping area separate from living area. The kitchen is very well equiped,as is the whole house. Outside is a beautiful garden setting, peaceful and well maintained. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a special place to relax and enjoy the wine country, the quaint town of Cotati, antique shopping, stargazing, great golf nearby, or just walking down country roads!!

We had two couples stay in this wonderful property in early April, 2007. We had a wonderful stay. The amenities are great, with wonderful garden and landscaping. The house is very comfortable for two couples and the kitchen was great to work in. We made one meal at the house and had everything we needed to do that. The house is very close to 101, so it was also easy to get further into Sonoma wine country, over to the coast or up to Santa Rosa for some wonderful restaurants. A great experience. It exceeded our expectations.

We were more then pleasantly surprised by the serenity of the location, combined with the accommodations, and the frenendly hosts. I recommend this to anyone visiting the Santa Rosa and surrounding area. We found the kitchen to be in impeccable condition and all the rooms in excellent condition. We will be coming back in the future.
