We are already thinking of planning our next trip to Whitney's condo. It is not a matter of if we will go back, just when. We have rented many condos on VRBO over the years. With two boys ages 4 & 6 we just don't fit in a regular hotel room and the boys are not old enough to have their own hotel room yet. To think that we might have stayed in a *dreaded* all inclusive resort instead of this oasis in half moon bay is crazy. We decided that for this trip we really wanted to be able to spread out and relax so we wanted the extra space. It feels so much bigger than the pictures make it seem because of the tall ceilings and spacious rooms. And the views! I could stay on the deck forever looking across the bay and listening to the waves. It is walking distance to the Yal-ku lagoon which offers amazing snorkeling for beginners (both my boys were able to snorkel there and see tons of fish) and an amazing restaurant Que Onda which you must try. Just down the road is La Buena Vida which is a fun beach bar and surprisingly good restaurant too. You should rent a car so that you can see all that the area has to offer including the ruins at Tulum and snorkeling at Akumal beach. The staff at La Sirena is top notch. Anna cleaned the entire condo and did the dishes every day, including on Easter Sunday! Hector always greeted us as we came or went and asked the boys about their day in simple Spanish (my older son is studying Spanish in a bilingual immersion school). The pool is perfect and shaded in the late afternoon when you really want the shade which is very unusual. Believe me, you will appreciate the shady pool after being in the heat of the sun all day. It also has shallow areas for little kids and even my younger timid swimmer loved this pool. Whitney was so responsive always answering emails within an a few hours. Her condo has the best view and there is an iguana that lives at the bottom of the stairs which was a big hit with the kids. They would run down the stairs each day to see if the iguana was out. I would also recommend the Crocun Zoo in Puerto Morelos if you have kids. Amazing hands on animal experience with a private tour guide. We have rented many condos on VRBO and most have been great. This is the only one I have ever spent the time to write a review for and the only one that I wanted to plan a return visit to as soon as I got home.

Through many changes of plans due to my wifes illness Whitney stuck with us, offered encouragement for my wife and followed through on everything she promised. All through our dealings she followed through with her promises even when contractually she didn't need to. She is someone that if you are lucky enough to know her personally she must be a blessing and a wonderful addition to your life and for those that only pass through her life she is a person that reminds you to do things the right way. Thanks Whitney!!

When I see questions comparing condos I always think that all the condos on Half Moon Bay are good so it really doesn't matter. We've stayed in several and I have to say yours is a little bit better. The view from the living room is so dramatic giving a feeling of being right on the water. I'm a huge fan of Mexican tile and you have some really cool hand made stuff at La Sirena. The contrast between the rough texture walls and that hand made tile make your place unique. One other thing, We didn't need the a.c. I have never noticed it in Akumal before, but you get a great cool jungle breeze in the bedroom. We opened the balcony door and turned on the floor fan to slow and it was perfect. Security wise I guess we have never had that option at other places we've stayed. . Again thanks for sharing and hope to do it again soon.

We spent a wonderful two weeks at Whitney's condo. We found the unit completely lived up to the on-line pictures. The grounds are gorgeous, the pool large and perfectly shaded at various times in the day, the beach was great (we could see fish right from our loungers), and the snorkelling incredible. The unit itself was well-equipped and nicely decorated. Fantastic views! The kitchen had everything we could possibly want including the largest fridge we have ever seen in Mexico. The caminista (housekeeper) coming in daily was great! It was incredibly hot while we were down but the breeze off the water was wonderful and we only used the A/C in the living room in the evening (if we were watching a movie) and in the bedrooms at night. Both bedrooms are spacious and well-appointed and the beds are *so* comfortable. There's a great selection of DVDs and a much larger library of novels than we expected. As well, Whitney was a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end, even checking up on us once we came home. I would highly recommend renting a car as the condo is at the far end of HMB but there are a couple of restaurants and convenience stores within fairly easy walking distance and Akumal Bay is less than a 5-minute drive from the condo. We stopped on the way down and picked up groceries at the MEGA in Playa del Carmen and then topped up mid-stay at the lovely new Super Chedraui at Puerto Aventuras (so convenient). We ate all our breakfasts in (except for our last which we had at Turtle Bay) and probably half our other meals. We ate at Lol-ha on the beach, Cueva del Pescador, La Buena Vida, Turtle Bay Cafe and the Loncheria outside Super Chomak. Yum. Had ice cream at Lucy's, picked up a flat chicken and all the fixings from Naty's in the pueblo for lunch one day, and visited the fairly new Tequilaville in the pueblo on another night. We did an overnight trip -- drove up Coba road to Ek Balam really early one morning, visited Vallodolid, stayed overnight there, and went to Chichen Itza first thing the next morning (before the tour buses arrived). Spent an overcast day (only one in our whole trip) in Playa del Carmen and spent another morning at Cenote Azul where we saw a ton of fish. Saw sea turtles and manta rays in Akumal Bay and sea turtles, manta rays, eagle rays, needlefish, a barracuda and a ton of other fish in Half Moon Bay. All in all, we had a fabulous time and can't recommend highly enough choosing this condo for a vacation in Akumal.

Whitney, We had a fantastic time! The condo was perfect and Teresa did a great job every day. Hector was always friendly and helpful when we needed information. A wind/rain storm hit the last day we were there and so the card games and checker board came in handy. We ate at La Lunita, Pescador, and Lol Ha snack bar (twice). We visited Hidden Worlds and had a really fun time. We drove to Coba and went to Yal-ku. Being the gringos that we are, when a mariachi band visited our table at Pescador and asked if they could play us a song we said sure and planned on paying them a tip, like we have done in Mexico in the past. When we tried to tip, they said they charged $100 pesos for one song! We paid him, but we felt like they were running a little scam. The same thing happened to other people at the restaurant and when people complained, the band left. We felt very safe and welcome in Akumal, and this was the only incident where we felt we were being taken advantage of. Maybe you could include a bit of advice in your packet about agreeing on a price for a song before accepting their office for people like us who are unaware of that situation. Snorkeling in Half Moon Bay was good, but we spent a day at Akumal Bay, too. The fins and water shoes you had at the condo were a perfect fit for the three of us. We had a really memorable time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Your condo was perfect! Also, thanks for all your advice prior to our arrival. It was nice to rent from someone who put effort into, and cared about, us having a great time. :-)

HI Whitney, We had a FABULOUS time. It was beautiful most of the time and when it did rain the relief and the beauty of it made it no big deal. We would love to visit your place again sometime. We didn't make it to Calakmul which was a desapointment to me, but I just couldn't do the drive at that point (We also loved Mahahual) I want to tell you that one of the many things I loved about the condo was the great sheets on the bed. They are of good cotton and are soft. Everything was already perfect and then got better when I realized that there was a light switch at the bed side for nighttime reading and shutting off the light with ease! The beds were super comfortable. We loved being able to swim in the pool or ocean or lagoon all right there by the condo. We watched Spanish speaking TV when it rained and enjoyed the view. My kids Spanish improved from watching all the disney in Spanish. Thanks for the great vacation. We WILL be back soon.

My wife and I had the good fortune to stay at Whitney's condo this April. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever experienced - 2 weeks with no worries whatsoever. Since we have been going to the Caribbean side of Mexico for several years, we had already seen most of the 'touristy' things that draw visitors to this area, so it was a real present to ourselves to simply sit on the beach or by the pool reading a good book or snorkeling right in front of the condo. One of the best restaurants in Akumal (Que Onda) is within a block of the condo, and all of the other Akumal attractions and restaurants are within a short walk or bike ride. The staff at La Sirena was extremely helpful with all of our questions and needs, and of course, the view from the top floor is magnificent. We will return!

Perfect Family Condo!

When we first pulled up to entrance I was a bit skeptical (doesn't look like much from the road), but the MOMENT you walk into the complex that completely changes. The grounds are meticulously maintained, lush, clean, and gorgeous landscaping. Pool is centrally located and shaded, which was really nice when you wanted to cool off or keep kids out of sun, but still outside. We had such a great time here! Everything we needed we found in the condo including a boogie board and pool balls (which thrilled the kiddos)! We cooked almost every night and had plenty of utensils, pot, pans etc., Great breeze only turned on the A/C 2 nights. Pictures are 100% accurate of the unit. Staff was incredible. Hector even came to the unit at 7:30pm to tell us it was daylight savings in MX and he didn't want us to miss our flight out in the morning. Owner was Soooooo helpful in planning and steering us in the right direction for groceries,ATM's,restaurants, driving directions,activities, pretty much everything we needed to know she supplied us with. And she's not kidding about not having to do a single dish. Our caminista came everyday and took care of EVERYTHING! I did leave a nice tip after I envisioned her carrying that 5 gallon water jug up 3 flights of stairs each day:-) I would not hesitate to stay here again if our travels lead us back to beautiful Akumal. Hola Whitney ! It was wonderful !!! What a view !! What blue colors ! As it's said in one of the reviews: you just can stay hours in front of any window and feel in ecstasy !! I could cook and wash dishes all the long with such a view from a kitchen :) Thank you for sharing your apartment and for all the advices you gave us in your booklet: they were very useful. My husband enjoyed diving in the bay, and I saw many turtles just snorkelling in front of the Lol ha restaurant. Went to Tulum ruins and Sian K'han Biosphere reserve. Amazing ! Hi Whitney: just a quick not to say thank you. My week away solo was exactly what my body needed. Lots of rest, snorkeling, swimming, reading - I hardly left that rocking chair on the deck. Loved the open air flowing throughout the condo and especially loved the sound of crashing waves that lul you to sleep each night. I'll be back for sure and who knows, I may even bring my hubby :-)

Hi Whitney Everything was as expected. We had very good snorkeling just in front of the condo, we went to Akumal bay to swim with two big turtles. The staff was very helpful. We found your document of great help even when we had been around Playa del Carmen many times. Your books of reef fish and creatures are just great! Hi Whitney, Just a short note to thank you for your hospitality. As you know, the storm was just coming when we checked in around 6pm Saturday so we went to Playa for groceries, had a nice pasta and wine late dinner and an ongoing brunch Sunday just watching the soccer games while it rained and rained. Everything worked out super, the place was really clean, (turned it back the same -no damages accounted for) and Hector and the staff are a friendly and courteous bunch. The downside: no reef snorkeling this time so my kids now want to go back!! Thank you again for letting us use your condo, please let us know when you head to Valladolid so .we can meet you. Daniel

I did have a great snorkeling time in both bays and Yakul ,also went fishing and caught 2 good size Dorado and a Bonito ,that was a thrill!! I returned home to jump right into a busy work season-- so thought I'd take the time to let you know about our trip:Walking in the door to your lovely condo we couldn't have been happier! Booking online for us and friends, you just hope for a place to live up to it's pictures and reviews and your place did just that! The view was fantastic! We enjoyed just sitting on the front deck looking out at waves and sun. We hardly used the great 'back' deck--couldn't tear ourselves away from the ocean view! The rooms were a nice size, and the large closets were great. Since we were two couples, not a family, our one suggestion would be some heavier/thicker curtains for the master windows, just to add some extra privacy. (owner added--Good Idea and Thank you. we are working on that!)The large, open, condo kitchen, which had all the necessities, made preparing meals together a lot of fun. We usually enjoyed breakfast in the condo, and made a few lunches and dinners there as well. Shrimp and steak cooked on the grill made great lunch tacos. And it was so nice not to have to do any dishes!! We stopped at the large grocery store in Playa, on the way down, but I think we enjoyed the smaller one in Tulum more. We mostly went out for dinner, and your recommendations were great. (Oh, and we stopped at the shrimp taco place in Playa (La Floresta) on our way down--great first experience! Reminded us we 'weren't in Kansas anymore'!) Your reviews were pretty well dead on--we ate at Pescador, Turtle Bay (it was nice to have a bread basket after a week of tortilla chips!), Lucy's ice cream (Nutella!!), La Buena Vida, and even at a roadside taqueria on the way back from Gran Cenote. A new place we enjoyed was Blue Sky Pizza on Tankah Bay. Great gourmet style pizza and the owner was very generous to let us hang out there after enjoying the cenote.The snorkeling in Half Moon Bay was some of the best we've ever experienced--we saw turtles, tons of fish, a barracuda or two, and even a spotted eagle ray (we've been to the BVI's, Costa Rica, and Dominican Rep.). Being able to just slip on your fins and mask and go right out front was so nice. We also visited several cenotes, and appreciated the book you had in the condo. We might not have found the 'bat caves' at a couple of them without it. The fish and sea creature books were great as well, and I think we all spent time in the evenings poring over them trying to figure out what we saw that day. Our friends

Whitney, Wow! We have had an incredible time here in your home and we have truly made some life-long family memories. The kiddos learned to snorkel, we saw a couple of turtles just south of the condo, caught and ate fish with the Cueva folks, had a great time and meal at La Buena Vida, we watched the bats fly around at dusk, and spent a day at akumal bay beach enjoying the softest sand we have ever felt. Thank you Whitney. The condo was perfect. Very comfortable,plenty of room for all of us and beautiful views. Theressa the house keeper was wonderful. What a treat to come home everyday and have the house cleaned! I did leave her a tip on the kitchen counter, I hope she got it. The little town and all the restaurants you recommended were great. We love the little outside restaurant next to the grocery. The french toast was the best. We loved the 3 mini lobsters too. We ate at the Italian restaurant twice. Dear Whitney, We loved your condo! I took a million pictures but none of fish, so I was so happy to see your website. Your handout was really helpful; we got the 22 pages down to 6 with a little margin work and 8 point type. We went snorkeling every day. We had sparkly beach weather and a a dramatic rainstorm (right when we were in the Italien restaurant down the street; we just moved the tables in three feet). we rented bikes at a midway down the road to the condo: $4 per day since we had them all week. We never got in the car for the first two days! Thanks for everything. Loved that coffee-maker/grinder!

Whitney, Just wanted to say that everything was great! We couldn't have asked for more. And your extra pair of pink snorkel fins saved my trip!! The travel fins I bought were so freakin heavy(go figure)that they were just killing my legs. So I switched to the pink ones you had at the condo, and it was soooo much better. I can't believe I was so worried about snorkeling HMB...it really wasn't that difficult. Maybe if you have never snorkeled, it might take a little getting used to as you do have to sorta watch yourself in certain areas to avoid being pushed into coral. But we were just fine...and simply LOVED it!! It was breathtaking! We did feel the rip current a few times...but simply swam parallel to the beach to get out of it. The water clarity was amazing...even when it was sorta choppy. The only thing we missed out on was going right out to the outer reef...I was too chicken...lol. That's the kinda stuff I have to work up to. Maybe next time. We were happy as clams with just going straight out or to the right. Bryan is STILL grinning about seeing the octopus!! Your place is really something special...it felt like home. Every morning I was torn between sipping my coffee on the front or master bedroom balcony! Hmmm...spectacular view of HMB...or absolutely lovely view of the gardens and mangrove and more ocean?? Life was tough...lol. And to wake up and see that view of HMB from the bed(or shower for that matter) put a smile on my face every morning. And I love how you decorated! So warm and colorful. The few condos we have rented on previous vacations seemed so outdated and generic(kinda 1980's Florida decor with bad wall pictures and WAY too much wicker...lol). Yours actually felt like someones home with so many personal touches. It was obvious that you have put a lot of thought into the little things...extra snorkel stuff(thank you, thank you!), rafts, flashlights, candles everywhere, fish I.D. books, and so on. Some days we felt like the complex rebels...haha...as we tend to come a go a lot and stay out kinda late. We did our very best to tip-toe through the complex at night so as to not disturb anyone. It truly is a serene and peaceful place. We almost didn't know how to handle having the beach area COMPLETELY to ourselves...lol. Only one time was there anyone else out there while we were. Whitney, This trip has been a blast! Thank you so much for everything you have done. The condo is georgous and comfortable and all the little amenities (like the books that we could look up the fish we have been seeing) added so much! Thanks for providing the BBQ, too. Your recommendations on what to do and where to go made us feel a little less "gringo" and a little more like seasoned travelers (but I don't think we fooled the locals at all).

Hi Whitney, We just got back from our trip to your condo and had the best time!!!! Thank You So Much EVERYTHING was perfect! The staff there was Wonderful – Hector, Rena and the rest of the crew were SO helpful. THANK YOU for the barbeque we weren’t expecting such a nice new one! Anyway the trip was so terrific that we would like to book for April 12th thru the 19th. We are also are thinking of returning the first week in November. Wow! Even my very hard-to-please husband said this was the best vacation we have ever been on. The snorkeling out the back door is awesome and the view from the living room and balcony is impossible to beat. Yal Ku was only a 5 minute walk and Akumal’s restaurants and night life only a 5 minute drive away. With the WiFi, my husband did not get behind at work, and with satellite TV, the kids didn’t have to miss their favorite shows. What more could we ask for? The little convenience store next to the office even had everything we needed to cook our first breakfast, and was reasonably priced, until we could go shop for food and libations for the rest of the week. I enjoyed cooking, especially since I didn’t have to do any dishes!It was a perfect week….and we WILL be back!

November 15, 2006 hi, whitney, yes..we had a great time. but we both had to walk right back into business trips on the back end..that was a drag. the three days went by super fast. the maids were great. everything was fully stocked and fabulous. everytime we looked for something, it was there. we saw a turtle the first day in...and spent quite a bit of time at the lagoon. the only surprise was when we went to stock up the fridge the day we got in and found out they have some rule about not selling packaqe beer after 2 p.m on sundays. we ended up driving to tulum for dinner and got our supplies there... i am sure we are going to have people interested in booking more days there next year. thanks for everything, marcy m

Hi Whitney! We're home--just trying to catch up at work and home. Everyone except me saw turtles. Jim did see a couple at Half Moon, the rest they saw at Akumal Bay. The snorkeling was truly wonderful. We saw turtle nests, yes, and two days before we left Jim found a new nest for us to see near the the Dive Shop. We took a photo of the tracks she left. Beautiful. We were very pleased with your condo at La Sirena. It is a very nice place with a great setting on the sea. We sat on the terrace a lot. We were glad we stayed in Akumal instead of Cancun or Playa del Carmen. Akumal is the perfect place to get away from it all but still close enough to civilization.The staff takes excellent care of the property. Alfredo and Lupa were very nice. Please use us as a reference if anyone has any questions about La Sirena. I personally just don't care for hotels for a vacation.

Hi Whitney, It was just wonderful. If we'd known how much we were going to like it we would have booked 2 weeks instead of spending the second week in Puerto Morelos. The master bedroom is great, that bed is so much better than any of the others we've had in all our trips. You've got everything anyone could need, right down to a measuring cup that I needed. I know that sounds like a small thing but it shows your thinking of everything. All the decorations are so nice. I went out and bought those 3 candle matching sets you have there. They are now in my dining room here. All the glass vases and table candles were very romantic, all your touches are great. I especially liked the cloth wall hangings they fit so well into the condo. Martha & Peter were very nice but seemed pretty busy, didn't get to know them very well. Peter was helpful when the Sky went out, you needed a new chip. One thing I might suggest, leave a note or something on how to operate the TV. Some of us are remote challenged and it would be a help. We really loved staying there and will be booking again. Thanks again Whitney for having a great place to call home, even for a little while.

Hey Whitney, We are here and it is beautiful! Great Decorating! Air was on and it felt great! We did not get in until after 5:00 but there was still someone in the office. I was pretty tired from all of the travel we started out early, he was there and had someone help us with all of our groceries and bags which we were so appreciative of. Whitney, We had a wonderful stay, and were quite comfortable in your condo. We especially appreciated Lupe, although everyone was friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend your place. It was clean, comfortable, and we felt, rather luxurious. There was so much to do in the area. Pete enjoyed snorkeling right in the bay, and my daughter and I enjoyed snorkeling at Underwater World (cenotes). Pete's mom is amazing for being 87 years old. I don't know if too many people her age are as able to get around as she is. She especially enjoyed swimming in the pool. Thank you again for sharing your place with us. We enjoyed it immensely.
