This is a spacious house for a large family gathering & we rented the home for our daughter's wedding weekend. We found the home to need lots of maintenance and much better cleaning. The guest house had a strong, damp, musty odor. The dehumidifier pan was full of water but even after emptying it and airing the house and spraying with an air freshener, the smell was still in the carpet, furniture, etc... The kitchen in the main house had dirty cookware, rusty utensils, molded coffee pot (coffee grounds left in the pot looked like a bad science project). Light fixtures in all the rooms had bulbs burned out or missing (our bathroom had no light at all for that evening), & no spare bulbs to be found. We had to steal bulbs from other fixtures that had more than one bulb. The outside entrance lights were totally burned out, so those who came in the dark had no lights on the steps (they left their headlites on until they got in). The smoke detectors were broken apart, & lying on the book shelves. There were not enough towels in the home. The property manager advised me there were 30 in the linen closet; when I checked for her, there were only a couple of washrags, no towels. The towels that were in the bathrooms had been folded while still very damp. When I contacted the property manager, she was very apologetic and asked me to walk thru the home and itemize the problems, which I did. My biggest disappointment was that we never heard from the owner concerning all the problems. I felt the least she could have done was to contact us about the poor condition of her home. I also felt that we should not have been charged the cleaning fee for the rental, not with all the cleaning we had to do once we arrived. The kitchen & tubs had to be scrubbed, & towels had to be laundried before we could use them. According to the website calendar, the home had just been rented the week before, so these issues should have been resolved before we even arrived. I tried to call the owner, but her voice mail box was full (according to the property manager, it is always full). As stated earlier, this could be a great rental house if properly cared for.

Great Place for a Family Vacation!!!
Great Place for a Family Vacation!!!
My stay in Big Canoe was wonderful!!! My family and I had one of the best vacations ever. The home was clean and it had plenty of room for the 16 members of the family. The only problem we experienced was that we could not get the internet to work. After my tries and many phone calls we finally just gave up and enjoyed the surroundings and each other. I would highly recommend this property. Big Canoe was beautiful!!! Thanks Kim!!!

About the owner: Ron and Kim Schindler along with their four great kids love to go to the house at Big Canoe and hang out on the weekends. The kids particularly enjoy the rock slide, pool/beach area and hiking in the woods. Kim and Ron also enjoy an occasional golf outing.
Why the Owner Chose Big Canoe:
We bought in this location since it is close enough to visit easily on the weekends, but in the mountains and far away enough to feel like we are truly getting away. We really love all of the outdoor activities which include swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and golf. During the winter we can take the kids to the indoor pool to hang out.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We often sit on our deck overlooking the woods and watch the deer come right up to the deck. Our home has a lot of privacy so we don't feel like we are sitting in a subdivision home with lots of other houses right out our front door. It's a truly peaceful get away.
