In a relatively little known part of northern Tuscany known as the Garfagnana, Barga is a small walled hilltown with stunning views of the Apuane and Appenine mountain ranges. Two hours from Florence, Siena and San Gimignano within half a day's driving,1 1/2 hours from Pisa airport, bus and train services available, 1 1/2 hours from coast, nearby winter skiing.
Piazza Verzani 4 is a beautifully restored seventeenth century house, with all modern amenities and two terraces- one with stunning views over the mountains. It looks out on a little piazzetta and there is no traffic. The 'new' (19th century ) town below old Barga has all necessary services. The house is on four floors. Above the basement area with washing machine etc., on the first floor the large main double bedroom has a magnificent fireplace with wood-burning stove, with a huge antique chestnut wardrobe. The main bathroom is across the tiled floor at mezzanine level. On the floor above is a shower room serving another double bedroom with its own terrace and a twin-bedded room with an additional cot for a young child. On the top floor the extensive dining/living/kitchen area beneath the roof with its exposed beams has its own fireplace and a terrace looking onto the two mountain ranges.

From the opposite window over the tiled roofs of old Barga you can see the Pania, the highest mountain in this area.
