This was hands down the best house we stayed in during our Honeymoon. The house is just beautiful, a lot of time and care when into the little details, such as "keep the drawers open so the silverware doesn't rust," accessible instruction manuals for all appliances, and a list of local television stations, and even a guide book they put together for guests. There was Hawaiian music playing for us when we arrived! We were on our Honeymoon, but five people could stay here very comfortably. "Downtown" Pahoa is a short drive away, and a cute hippie town with some great restaurants. Be careful at night. This house is in a great location for sight-seeing and adventure! We'll take this side of the island over Kailua-Kona anyday!

Nalowale Mala Pua is a great little house in the jungle. It is a very peaceful and relaxing. We arrived in the evening and were surprised how dark it gets under the tree canopy. The tropical rains are heavenly and at times super intense. The screened porches are nice!! The hale has a good central location to get out and explore. The lava flow is a short drive away. We hiked out to the flow with a local named Ed Frazer (he lost his house to the lava in the early nineties) It was a night hike and it was truly awesome. We were able to poke the lava with our hiking sticks and capture some amazing photos. The farmers markets are really fun and delicious. The botanical gardens are beautiful. Pahoa is funky but in a good way. Sometimes I thought it was 1972 on the California coast. Get out and walk around the neighborhood the roads and streets are really cool. Wild orchids and hibiscus are all around. The hale is much better in person than in photos. We can't wait to come back!!!
